BlogHush: Floyd Mayweather Jr. to fight Paul "Big Show" Wight

No, not these guys...

1. Below is an interesting...sort of fight.

LOS ANGELES -- Floyd Mayweather Jr. will earn a record $20 million for his first professional wrestling match next month.

The undefeated WBC welterweight champion will take on Paul "Big Show" Wight as part of WWE's "WrestleMania XXIV" at Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla., on March 30.

The one-fight deal, which is believed to be the largest single purse for a pro wrestling match, was finalized in January by Mayweather's advisor, Leonard Ellerbee.

"I had approached the (WWE) about a year ago but it didn't fit into our schedule," said Ellerbee after a news conference at Staples Center. "We sat down with them again about a month ago and they made an incredible offer and me and my business partner Al Heyman sat down with them and we cut the deal. It's an eight-figure deal worth $20 million just for this one fight."

Mayweather is 39-0 in the ring, but the wrestling match will have a slightly more skewed tale of the tape than the 5-foot-8, 150-pound boxer is used to. Wight comes into match standing 7 feet tall and weighing 430 pounds.

"I weigh three times as much as he does. It's not fair, but I'm a businessman and I see an opportunity for business," said Wight, punctuating his statement by flinging the wooden podium to the floor.

Mayweather hopped onto a chair and exchanged glares with Wight while WWE regulars Randy Orton, John Cena, Triple H and Edge looked on

"We've wanted to do something with Mayweather for quite sometime," said WWE Executive Vice President Shane McMahon. "I brought my dad [Vince McMahon] into it because he grew up and did a lot of promotions with [Muhammad] Ali and I told him this guy is Ali-plus. He's tailor-made for our business."

Mayweather plans to train with WWE Latino star Ray Mysterio, who wears a mask on his face. "WWE is the biggest it gets," Mayweather said. "This is going to be an event like none other."

While other boxers such as Ali, Mike Tyson and Joe Louis have stepped into the pro wrestling ring, all of them did it at the end of their careers. Mayweather is making the transition in his prime, as a possible re-match with Oscar De La Hoya awaits in September.

"I'm not just any ordinary fighter," said Mayweather, who earned about $20 million for his 2007 fight against De La Hoya, which was the richest boxing match ever, generating revenue of $120 million.

"I dance with the stars, I play in NBA celebrity games; you just never know what Floyd Mayweather will do next. Next year I could be playing for an NFL team or an NBA team. You just don't know."

The Associated Press contributed to this story.

If this was a 'real' fight, in or outside of the ring, even with Mayweather's superior technical fighting skills, I would still favour Wight with his greatly superior strength and mass.

2. BlogRush or BlogHush?

I would appreciate opinions in comments. Is BlogRush working for you? If you do not use BlogRush, why not?

My traffic has not increased as of yet since I started using BlogRush, but in my estimation I have nothing to lose by using it. It is free and I know statistically through Site Meter that some persons have viewed my blogs through the use of the widgets. BlogRush also allows me to search blog widgets, which can provide potential links. I have in a short time found a few blog links with the use of the widgets. It is good to have some articles appear in the TrafficJam listings, which also provides more exposure.

The Council of Nani?

James 3:8 But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. NASB.

1. Things not to say to a cop when you're pulled over...

I only had one officer Mr. Keg..

Back off Barney, I've got a piece.

I know I was weaving, but I can't find the Honeycomb Hideout!

On the way to the station let's get a twelve pack.

Come on write the ticket, the bars close in 20 minutes!

I'm surprised you stopped me, Dunkin Donuts has a 3 for 1 special!

Yeah you can see my license and registration, officer, but could you hold my beer for a minute?

Hey, you must've been doing' about 125mph (200km/h) to keep up with me!

Good job! Sorry, Officer, I didn't realize my radar detector wasn't plugged in.

I thought you had to be in relatively good physical condition to be a Police Officer.

I was trying to keep up with traffic. Yes, I know there are no cars around, that's how far I am behind the other cars.

You're NOT gonna check the trunk, are you?

Lets do it different this time...

I bet I could grab that gun before you finish writing my ticket.

Hey is that a 9 mm? That's nothing compared to this .44 magnum.

Is it true that people become policemen because they are too dumb to work at McDonalds?

Aren't you one of the Village People?

2. In the clip below, Manchester United is in the process of defeating Arsenal 4-0 in a F.A. Cup match. The United player decides to put on a dribbling show against Arsenal that was not appreciated by all. As I was falling asleep a few nights ago, I overheard a shouting match between two commentators on Talksport via the web concerning whether the display was acceptable sportsmanship. On Wade's Rantings awhile back I stated I did not like sore winners, but to be honest, the dribbling display, the game broadcasting comments, the Arsenal reactions, and especially the two commenters arguing and shouting on Talksport has put a grin on my face.

Please place your opinions in comments. Was Nani being a sore winner, or likely just having a bit of fun? I favour the second option. Should The Council of Nani be called to discuss his actions?

3. Occasionally on this blog I like to provide listed historical information. I am not an expert on the Ecumenical Councils, but inevitably in theology and apologetics discussions the subject of Councils comes up. I supply a list from what I have found to be a helpful and good source over the years, New Advent which is coming from a Roman Catholic perspective. The Councils therefore are noted from this historical perspective. I am of course a Presbyterian and not a Roman Catholic.

http://www.newadvent.org/library/almanac_14388a.htm

The 21 Ecumenical Councils

The Emperor Constantine was also present. To this council we owe the Nicene Creed, defining against Arius the true Divinity of the Son of God (homoousios), and the fixing of the date for keeping Easter (against the Quartodecimans).

XVI. COUNCIL OF CONSTANCE
Years: 1414-1418
The Council of Constance was held during the great Schism of the West, with the object of ending the divisions in the Church. It became legitimate only when Gregory XI had formally convoked it. Owing to this circumstance it succeeded in putting an end to the schism by the election of Pope Martin V, which the Council of Pisa (1403) had failed to accomplish on account of its illegality. The rightful pope confirmed the former decrees of the synod against Wyclif and Hus. This council is thus ecumenical only in its last sessions (42-45 inclusive) and with respect to the decrees of earlier sessions approved by Martin V.

The Council of Basle is only ecumenical till the end of the twenty-fifth session, and of its decrees Eugene IV approved only such as dealt with the extirpation of heresy, the peace of Christendom, and the reform of the Church, and which at the same time did not derogate from the rights of the Holy See.

Recent short comments on society

Dubai photos

If I lived in one of these houses my daily exercise could consist of swimming laps between my house and the ones across the water. Perhaps I would fish for some meals. I would not want to live in a Muslim country, but I must admit that Dubai does show some ingenuity. If one has guests using the washrooms there would always be alternatives.

Below are some recent comments I have made on other blogs. These are replies I have made to articles written by others, and I provide the blog links.

Comments appreciated.:)

In regard to Christianity and influence in society:

http://revoltinthedesert.blogspot.com/2008/02/recalling-12-
september-1960.html

Few desire church and state to exist as one, or two very closely associated entities. Western countries are primarily influenced by secular philosophy and any notable reliance on religious philosophy is most often viewed as a potential endorsement of a religion. As Christians of the moderate right and left that hold to Biblical concepts we can hope for greater religious influence upon the state without having the state endorse a religion/denomination. In Greater Vancouver where I live the secular philosophy within society is being exposed as greatly contributing to the break down of morality and the family unit.

Comments concerning political candidates who openly express realities:

http://www.jakebelder.com/2008/02/helpful-thoughts-on-
election.html

I wonder how truthful and open with the realities of government a person can be and still get elected in today's western political climate. In Canada, I would reason changes have to take place in government and judicial systems in order for progress to be made in many areas such as dealing with crime.

My thoughts on creation:

http://sanctifusion.blogspot.com/2008/02/who-am-i.html

Even if I was not a Christian, I would at least be a theist and perhaps a deist since it seems more reasonable the source of finite matter is an infinite, eternal being, rather than the Universe existing from nothing, being unplanned.

I present an opinion on why there is a connection between being liberal politically and theologically. I did not have moderate liberal Christian believers in mind when I wrote this comment.

http://thomistic.blogspot.com/

It seems often that liberal types in general terms both theologically and politically, downplay human evil and assume that human vices are normal and acceptable. In contrast, conservatives may struggle with the same vices but often see them as wrong. It is therefore no surprise that Hollywood and the Porn Palaces support the more liberal Democrats.

Space: real and phony

I found two (now deleted by YouTube) interesting fairly short clips concerning the size of the Universe. The second clip I originally viewed on Finishing Well from my links.

It would only take 10 billion light years of travel to see a theoretical view of the Universe in its large scale structure. Although I view God alone as being truly infinite, the Universe is certainly beyond the complete comprehension of any human being and scientist. Astronomy is an interesting science and I support the exploration of space, but I doubt God could be found by travelling beyond the known Universe. I reason God created matter in Genesis 1 and is therefore infinite, eternal and beyond matter and yet can exist and interact within his creation.

I found the humorous clip from Space 1999 below. I remember watching this British show in the 1970s as a kid on CBC in the time slot before Hockey Night in Canada. I used to think the show was really weird and looking at the monsters, I was probably right. The monsters seem to rely on a fear of the unknown and a cheap budget. I think that Chucky, Bobby and I could dress up in costumes and probably do almost as well as the ones presented. The one monster makes me think of a really mouldy piece of cheese with eyes.

Stupid questions

Yukon River, Red Cross scan

I recently read an article on another blog which posted something very similar to what is below, and so I looked for a source link. My comments shall be in regular font.

http://www.stupidquestions.org/courtroom-humor.htm

Courtroom Humor

These gems are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts, and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while these exchanges were actually taking place.

Q: What is your date of birth?
A: July 15.
Q: What year?
A: Every year.

The judge could be thinking that he/she has a smart mouth on his/her hands. I doubt that it is usually a good tactic for a witness to take, whether intentional or not.
______________________________________

Q: What gear were you in at the moment of the impact?
A: Gucci sweats and Reeboks.

Hmm, would the judge and/or jury begin to doubt the intelligence of the witness?
____________________________________

Q: This myasthenia gravis, does it affect your memory at all?
A: Yes.
Q: And in what ways does it affect your memory?
A: I forget.
Q: You forget? Can you give us an example of something that you've forgotten?

Umm, I have forgotten what you just asked...say again.
_____________________________________

Q: How old is your son, the one living with you?
A: Thirty-eight or thirty-five, I can't remember which.
Q: How long has he lived with you?
A: Forty-five years.

This answer sounds like it is from a potential Jerry Springer guest.
_____________________________________

Q: What was the first thing your husband said to you when he woke up that morning?
A: He said, "Where am I, Cathy?"
Q: And why did that upset you?
A: My name is Susan.

Perhaps this is relevant...Exodus 20:14 from the NASB

You shall not commit adultery.

Also Matthew 5:27-28, as lust can be a problem for many, especially us males. I suppose it could have been worse if the husband said "Where am I, Larry?"
______________________________________

Q: Do you know if your daughter has ever been involved in voodoo or the occult?
A: We both do.
Q: Voodoo?
A: We do.
Q: You do?
A: Yes, voodoo.

There used to be a roller hockey team here called the Vancouver Voodoo. As far as I know, the Voodoo were not owned by Tom Vu.
______________________________________

Q: Now doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesn't know about it until the next morning?
A: Did you actually pass the bar exam?

That was a poorly worded question. But, of course the lawyer did pass the exam, and so the answer is perhaps not as witty as it first appears.
___________________________________

Q: The youngest son, the twenty-year-old, how old is he?
_____________________________________

Q: Were you present when your picture was taken?
______________________________________

Q: So the date of conception (of the baby) was August 8th?
A: Yes.
Q: And what were you doing at that time?
______________________________________

Q: She had three children, right?
A: Yes.
Q: How many were boys?
A: None.
Q: Were there any girls?
______________________________________

Q: How was your first marriage terminated?
A: By death.
Q: And by whose death was it terminated?
______________________________________

Q: Can you describe the individual?
A: He was about medium height and had a beard.
Q: Was this a male, or a female?

Sadly in London, Chucky and I saw a bearded woman on the London Underground back in 1995. Later on that same trip in Birmingham, Chucky was shaving while I was watching television and I mentioned that he would not look as bad as that bearded lady if he did not shave, and within seconds she was on the television promoting a festival in Edinburgh. That was one of the weirdest things to ever happen to me.
______________________________________

Q: Is your appearance here this morning pursuant to a deposition notice which I sent to your attorney?
A: No, this is how I dress when I go to work.
______________________________________

Q: Doctor, how many autopsies have you performed on dead people?
A: All my autopsies are performed on dead people.
______________________________________

Q: ALL your responses MUST be oral, OK? What school did you go to?
A: Oral.
______________________________________

Q: Do you recall the time that you examined the body?
A: The autopsy started around 8:30 p.m.
Q: And Mr. Dennington was dead at the time?
A: No, he was sitting on the table wondering why I was doing an autopsy.
______________________________________

Q: Are you qualified to give a urine sample?
______________________________________

Q: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?
A: No.
Q: Did you check for blood pressure?
A: No.
Q: Did you check for breathing?
A: No.
Q: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
A: No.
Q: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
A: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
Q: But could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?
A: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law somewhere.

I like that final answer.

If you type in the term 'french military victories' in Google and click on 'I'm feeling lucky', it should come up with the following...

Did you mean: french military defeats
