Dr. Chuckles & Mr. Howard ('Fantastic Beasts' & Doctor Strange)

Comicbook.com

I agree with the review and comparison of the films: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) and Doctor Strange (2016), presented verbally by Dr. Chuckles and Mr. Howard.

These are the two latest films I have viewed in the theatre. Both with magical, supernatural themes. Both in part, featuring the occult in fiction.

I make a definite, distinction between reviewing concepts in our real, non-fictional world as an academic theologian, philosopher of religion and scholar; and reviewing as art and philosophy, concepts within fiction. I can enjoy some fantasy films that feature occult themes, without supporting the occult in my non-fictional, real world.

I agree both films featured some fine, often British, actors.

Dr. Chuckles and Mr. Howard preferred the writing in 'Fantastic Beasts' to Dr. Strange. I can grant that point.

I think the 'Fantastic Beasts' film better handled the fictional interaction between the supernatural and natural world represented. In other words, the supernatural interaction with the natural reality depicted seemed more reasonable and consistent in 'Fantastic Beasts' than in Doctor Strange. It was more difficult to understand in Doctor Strange when a character might be bodily injured or die, whereas in 'Fantastic Beasts' it seemed easier to reasonably follow.
