This is a bad sign for the National Hockey League. The largest market in the United States, and the second franchise cannot make it in Brooklyn?

Surprising, but the Islanders play in a basketball arena. Notice the car in the stands. An answer appears to be placing franchises in good hockey markets with modern, actual hockey buildings.

The arena, which is already home to the NBA’s Nets and one of the world’s top-grossing concert venues, would make more money without the National Hockey League team, according to people familiar with the facility’s financials.

Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, who owns the building and the Nets, has since November been seeking an investor to take a stake in both. As of earlier this month, a financial projection shared with potential investors showed the Islanders won’t contribute any revenue after the 2018-19 season -- a clear signal that the team won’t play there, the people said.'

The lease can be terminated by either the Islanders or arena management. If the team cancels, it can leave after next season. If Barclays Center nixes the deal, then the Islanders’ tenancy would end after the 2018-19 season. Then the question becomes: Where will the Islanders play?'

A new local arena would not be ready in time. Options include, renting a building from one of the other two metropolitan NHL clubs in New York, or moving to Quebec City, or another city. In my opinion, it is extremely unlikely the League would let this classic, yet significantly tainted franchise move to Canada. The National Hockey League is very hesitant to place a franchise in a foreign country like Canada.

Philippians 4: 8 & The taint

I have posted on Philippians 4: 8, twice previously on this website. See 'Search' top right for archives.

An elder and I discussed this verse and related theology at church today. The conclusion was that everything, including all Christian teaching, preaching and writing is tainted. Everything in this physical realm, at least related to humanity, is under the taint of sin (Genesis 1-3, Romans 1-6). Therefore, taking what is good and pure from something is key.

As examples:

Pornography may feature attractive women, but it is inherently evil in lust and should be avoided by everyone, including the Christian.

In contrast, an atheistic writer, although wrong about the gospel, may have some good intellectual insights. Perhaps he/she should be read by at least some Christians.

In my opinion, in regard to spiritual discernment, the overall good versus the overall evil needs to measured in regard to something.

Strictly speaking if I was to take this verse legalistically, perhaps as a fundamentalist, if consistent, no theological or Biblical preaching, teaching or writing, could pass the test.

With a smirk he alludes to a creation science booth. I reason this is a semi-serious, reference.

'They did come and talk to us though. They seem nice.'

He knows my educational background. He reasons I, like him, would have read significant scholarship opining that not all of Genesis was written plain literally, but rather figurative literally. In particular, Genesis 1-3. Although, certainly not written as myth.

We conclude that even if God made the universe with age, scientists should not be blamed for reasoning, empirically that the universe was billions of years old.

But then again, neither one of us are scientists.

Or Christian Scientists.

Are You Okay?: Audio On Psychological Triggers

Points:

'Are You Okay?' in the context discussed, not every context, is a trigger for an emotional pity party.

I note the example of romantic difficulties. As in feeling something is generally far more emphasized than knowing something. Biblically, in knowledge, not totally negating emotions, those in Christ are to accomplish things daily.

Dwelling too much on 'Are You Okay?' is an overemphasis on emotional problems and does not significantly assist in trying to live a day at a time (Matthew 6) in Christ.
