satire and theology is rated

http://mingle2.com/blog-rating

This rating was determined based on the presence of the following words:

death (13x) hell (9x) gay (8x) missionary (5x) pain (4x) hurt (3x) murder (2x) zombie (1x)

Thanks to Lawrence of Arabia from Revolt in the Desert, in my thekingpin68 links, for the link to this amusing site that rates blogs. I looked at the ratings for all my linked blogs with both of my theology blogs, my blogs excluded, and one other blog had a NC-17 rating, and two other blogs were rated Restricted.

Please check out my other theology related blog for its rating:

  1. I'm sure happy that I'm over seventeen, so I can view your blog!
It is my personal opinion that ratings are a good bench mark for people in determining if a blog is acceptable for younglings but sometimes this can be subjective rather than objective. For instance, your blog contains words such as "Death" and "Hell", if this blog was themed after Horror movies or about murdering and killing, than I am happy that under-seventeen year olds are warned, but when your blog is dealing with theology, philosophy, and satire in a very positve, creative, educated, and well presented manner, it would be a shame for young minds to be pushed away because of their age and willingness to learn.

  2. Thanks, Bobby Blog.

July 6. Happy Birthday to me. Please do not send cards, just cash.

The rating is amusing as there is no context for the words in which they provide a rating, as you allude to. I could discuss death and hell in terms of horror movies, or in terms of theology. The rating system does not appear to take into account the type of blog under review. This is a lazy man’s rating system!

  3. Happy Birthday Russ!

The cash is in the mail. I'm sure it will be arriving soon.

(and that blog rating thing is great! I can't wait to see what kind of blog I'm running)

    Peace!

  6. I just checked my blogs, my food blog is rated (G) and my Mormon blog is rated (PG). Boy Russ, to have yours rated (NC17) you must be pretty hardcore, LOL. Rick b

  7. Thanks, Rick.

I shall patiently wait for the cheque, or I guess in your case, check. Yes, I am hardcore, but the funny thing is I often restrain myself from stating what I fully think of some persons, which would boost my blog ratings up to Restricted!;)

  8. Hey Russ,

I don't know what happened to my original comment and why it didn't show up on your end - probably had something to do with user-error on my end

But I just thought it was funny how it rated you NC-17 based upon red flag word counts without any consideration to context.

And then I said something about hoping that you don't mind if I posted the same thing on my blog.

    Next I said, "Happy Birthday!"

Now I'm going to cross my fingers that you get this comment!

  9. Thanks Wade!

I would not bet against Blogger error in this case. I agree with you Wade, that there is no context.

    Russ:)

  10. My goodness... and I only rated in at PG. You theologians are a shifty bunch. :)

Happy birthday! I hope you had a lovely day.

  11. Thanks, Ruthie.:)

It was a good birthday. Hopefully by continuing to use theological terms my blogs do not end up being rated Restricted.
