Vitrectomy and not that procedure it sounds like

Restoration Why Later

I had the vitrectomy and lens replacement please see section D of post above.

June 21, 2012

1. Having exhausted laser eye surgery and after almost four years, I will be pursuing a vitrectomy. This is not a vasectomy which I very much doubt I shall ever pursue. Being as my 'religious convictions' mean if I ever get married we will try to have 12 children...not! But, I do love the little kiddies. By the way, I am not against career women, so do not get any crazy ideas about me!;) I also greatly respect committed mothers, and if need be, women that do both. The two laser surgeons I visited in the United States (Dr. Geller of Fort Myers, Florida, and Dr. Johnson of Irvine, California) both destroyed several floaters but my eye is filled with floaters and I have been told that there is no laser in existence that could reach the floaters in the back of my eye, safely. Two local UBC eye surgeons have offered to do the vitrectomy surgery for me. The vitreous jell is removed and replaced with saline solution. There is an estimated 40-50% chance of a resulting cataract which would result is a lens replacement which would result in significant improvement in my vision in that eye. So, in this case a cataract is not to be considered purely in evil terms. It could be considered a problem of evil, but also could ultimately lead to my benefit.

  1. Perhaps a warning that "Scenes of eye surgery follow..." may be appreciated by some people.
It doesn't really bother me though.

  2. True, and now you have warned them.;)

Me, I hate the floaters so much I fantasize about a vitrectomy. BUT, I do not take the potential complications lightly.

  3. yes, I wouldn't wasnt a vasectomy either. I can't even begin to imagine what you are experiencing. I had a coworker, and older woman, who had been trying to accept her floaters for years.

  4. Thanks, Daij.

Dr. Johnson was so correct when he stated that many doctors and ophthalmologists largely misunderstand the psychological damage of vitreous floaters. Especially the large ones.

I am wearing shades right now.

  5. Glad your back, So what will happen with your eyes from hear on out? Glasses, or contacts or nothing.

How long will you need shades. Do your eyes hurt? does the surgery now cause head aches, Just wondering all thats involved. Rick b

  6. Thanks, Rick.

I will pursue a vitrectomy where the jell in the back of the eye with the floaters is replaced by saline solution. Without the floaters I will not need the shades indoors.

There is no pain. The laser surgeries I have had for floaters have been very safe.

The vitrectomy may cause a cataract but the resulting lens replacement surgery would significantly improve the vision in my eye and therefore I have mixed thoughts on that issue.

  7. Hope all turns out well with your eyes Russ.. Just curious what causes floaters?

    From:

    Eye Floaters

'Most floaters are the result of bits of cells that remain in the vitreous humor after birth and float around when the vitreous becomes more liquified later in life.

Over 50% of people over 70 years of age report seeing floaters. Most floaters are age-related, due to degenerative changes of the vitreous humour or retina, resulting in the release of connnective tissue (protein) into the vitreous humour. Some parts of the vitreous may also form clumps or strands inside the eye.

Other spots can be caused by little bits of protein trapped within the eye during pregnancy. Trauma to the eye or breakdown of the vitreous humour may also cause spots and floaters. Many floaters remain in the eye for long periods of time before they gradually disappear.

Floaters are commonly found in nearsighted people and people with food allergies and candidiasis. Vitreous detachment is also common in diabetics, but the highest rate of complaints of floaters is in people over the age of 70. This is when the prevalence of a vitreous detachment jumps from 10% of the population to 63%.'

  9. I also greatly respect committed mothers

How about mothers who are committed (as, in an institution)?

I'm not going to watch that eye surgery video. Operations and stuff like that turn my stomach.

My late aunt used to refer to 'floaters' as something entirely different, but I won't go into that...

  11. It makes you appreciate the eyes even more after reading about floaters.

    Good luck with the vitrectomy.

  15. Russ, maybe if you could have a conversion experience like Paul did, those floaters could just fall out of your eyes, like the 'scales' fell out of Paul's eyes.

OK, I think we should give you an eye exam. If you can read the following grammatically-correct, logically-stated sentence, then your vision is perfectly fine:

    i9jhrg%90 *#^j^dsswe@90--k

  16. Remember Matthew 7:3---"Why do you look at the vitreous floaters in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the cataract in your own eye?"

That could perhaps be somehow surgically injected into the vitreous jell of my one eye in order to create another very annoying floater.

Would Ernest Angley be able to cast the demon of floaters out?

  20. The Jeff starts a new 'eye' related cult.

    'The Eye of the Floater'

'See the light, spiritually blast those damn floaters of evil.'

Dr. Johnson asked me what the problem of evil was and I stated 'My floaters'. He laughed.

  21. Apparently, eating apples is good for vitreous floaters. There was this lady named Eve who hated apples so much that she thought she would die if she ever had to eat one. However, she had such bad vitreous floaters that she had a hard time seeing. She went to someone she apparently considered an expert, and he told her:
"You will not die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened..." (Gen. 3:4-5a)

And sure enough, her eyes were opened!

  23. My past few comments were just a little vitreous humor.*

*The vitreous humor is a clear gel which occupies the posterior compartment of the eye, located between the crystalline lens and the retina and occupying about 80% of the volume of the eyeball.

  24. In the JLDS church, one often sees visions. Such wonderful heavenly visions are often described as small specks or clouds, dots, or floating cobwebs, and are interpreted to be revelations of the future, visions of heaven, or visions of angels.

    UPDATE REGARDING RIFQA BARY'S SITUATION (12 /14/ 2009)

    Dear concerned public,

I wanted to give you an update on Rifqa Bary's situation. First, let me say thanks for not giving up on her. Your prayers and concern are vital and very much needed. There are a few different components to her situation that I'd like to update you about that need your prayers.

    PERSONAL PROTECTION

I am thankful that at this point, Rifqa is still being protected from her parents because she is still in foster care in central Ohio. Even though foster care in central Ohio is no cake walk, it is better than the detrimental situation that she faced when she was living at home with her parents. We need to pray that she continues to be protected from the threat of being returned home for the next eight months until she is 18. This will depend on how the Juvenile court rules regarding her dependency case.

    PERSONAL ISOLATION

There is still no visitors list put together for Rifqa Bary. I was told a few weeks ago that a visitors list was being put together for Rifqa upon the agreement of Franklin County Children's services & her attorneys. This morning I was told that there would be no visitors list for her. Obviously, these two statements are conflicting. When I inquired as to why there was no visitors list for her yet, I was told that it has nothing to do with her or her case, but was really just a reality for all children who are under the custody of Children's Services. I was told that no child under foster care has the right to visit with friends. I was told that she is not being treated differently, rather the same as every other child in foster care. This explanation still does not explain why I was told two weeks ago, by a director from Franklin County Children's services, that her attorneys and children's services were working on a visitor's list, and now they are not. I was told that not allowing foster children to have visits with friends was standard practice nationally regarding all children under foster care, and was not limited to Ohio. This was obviously not the case in Florida. When Rifqa was in foster care in the state of Florida, she was able to receive supervised visits, now that she is in Ohio, I am told that she cannot. Why? There was not a satisfactory response to my question. I was told that I should really be angry at the injustices of foster care nationally, and not simply at how Rifqa was being treated. Again, this did not answer my question as to the discrepancy between Ohio and Florida's treatment of Rifqa.

Also, as you might have heard, there was a motion filed by the C.A.I.R. affiliated attorney to not allow Rifqa to receive the Christmas cards being sent to her. This is an absolutely ridiculous move on their part that I'm sure will be fought by Rifqa's attorneys. This ridiculous motion will be heard at the next hearing on December 22'nd, and is sure to be dismissed. The fact that they filed such a motion, however, should be eye opening to all of us regarding the type of opposition that Rifqa faces. This is a classic attempt to discourage and isolate Rifqa. Please keep sending these cards and notes to her attorney at the address listed at rifqabary.com. She will receive them, and they are very encouraging to her!

    LEGAL SITUATION

Because of the gag order, it is difficult to find out information about Rifqa's situation. Here is the information that is available to the public. Rifqa's next hearing is Tuesday December 22'nd. There will be no public rally for Rifqa this time, but your help may still be needed.

I was told that if a person wants to go to the hearing, they should show up at the Franklin County Courthouse at 9am on Tuesday December 22'nd. The hearing will more than likely not be at 9am, but the hearings for that day will be posted on the docket indicating the time of the hearings that day. The magistrate hearing the case is magistrate Goodrich. When you arrive at the courthouse, you should inquire about the docket listing all of magistrate Goodrich's hearings for that day. Rifqa Bary's hearing should be listed there. If it is possible for you, I would plan to be there all day to ensure your place in the court room when the hearing occurs. It would be great if people who have a heart for prayer would just show up to simply pray for Rifqa and the hearing that day. No signs, no protests, just prayer! Praying with insight, on sight, is a powerful thing! It would also be very encouraging for Rifqa to see many supporters there! Here is the address for the Franklin County Courthouse:

    Franklin County juvenile court

    373 S. High street

    Columbus, Ohio 43215

    PRAYER POINTS

    1. Please pray for Rifqa's continued physical protection.

    2. Please pray for Rifqa's spiritual encouragement and empowerment. Pray for her continued boldness and wisdom in dealing with all the legal & emotional situations that she is facing. She faces spiritual opposition on many different fronts. Some of this opposition you would expect, but some you would not.

    3. Please pray against satan's attempt to silence Rifqa. As all Christians should know from Ephesians 6, that we do not battle flesh and blood, rather we battle against spiritual forces of darkness. There has been a consistent attempt by the enemy, since she became a Christian 4 years ago, to keep Rifqa silent. The Lord has elevated her life and situation because I am convinced that He wants her testimony to get out for several different reasons in our day. This is a continued battle that she faces, and I'm sure that attempts to silence her will only take on further twists as time continues. Please pray that satan's attempt to silence her will utterly fail!

    4. Please pray against fear. The main tool that the enemy uses is terror and fear. Please pray that there would be no fear in Rifqa and those who support her. A lack of fear will enable and embolden those who are in key positions of support for Rifqa to adequately stand against the enemy's plans and schemes.

    5. Pray for truth and justice to be brought out regarding Rifqa's situation. Scripture is very clear that God is interested in both truth and justice. Pray for His justice to speedily be brought forth, and all injustices to be exposed!

  33. I've heard so much about these floater things recently, from several different people. Fascinating. I do wonder if that's the thing I experience when I'm out in the bright sunlight or using the computer.

  34. There is a good chance those are floaters. But if they are not large or numerous they are usually left alone by the medical profession.
