Six pack fallacy

As part my ongoing sleep apnea treatment and overall beautification, I have hired a professional dietitian.

She confirmed what I have thought for years. That being, that the equal amount of calories in/calories out theory for six pack abs is fallacious.

The human body is far more complex.

I will continue with my 'Thanos' looks according to Mr. Rogers (last post). My twelve pack?

By the way, she reasons I might actually exercise too much.

Ottawa Citizen: May 23

There are reports once again today that the Ottawa Senators are not sold out for tonight's Stanley Cup, Semi-Final (Eastern Conference Final) versus the Pittsburgh Penguins.

I agree with many Canadian critics the club would be financially stronger if it remained in Southern Ontario, but not Eastern Southern Ontario. It would be financially more valuable and have a larger fan base in the Greater Toronto Area, as in Toronto (2) or Markham, or west in Kitchener-Waterloo or Hamilton.

But in appears the Senators are going to build a new arena in the Lebreton Flats, which at least puts the club downtown, like every other Canadian club. The distance to the games in Kanata (City of Ottawa) is documented as a problem. Another problem assumed is the fact Ottawa is a government town. I suppose the business sector is small for its population.

As the National Hockey League culture is not favourable for new Canadian clubs, these potentially better markets are not building new NHL style arenas. Other than Quebec City which now owns a white elephant. It does good business, but has no prospects for a club at this point. A new NHL style arena in Canada, without an existing franchise is too much of a financial risk for the present climate. No wise businessman is going to build a 500 million dollar, 18, 000 seat, NHL style arena with no chance of getting a franchise.

Clearly, most often American cities have more corporate business as potential support for hockey clubs than do Canadian cities. The United States has a much higher population than does Canada.

For 2016 the Nashville Predators are ranked #26 (26/30) in franchise value. Even Ottawa has a significantly higher value.

Nashville's ranking will go up due to earning a position in the Stanley Cup Finals. I can reason that Nashville can support a club with sell-outs and a decent overall market according to Forbes. I can grant that Nashville is a good, non-traditional hockey market.

There are a few markets in Canada that would be financially more valuable than Nashville. These markets would also grow the game and add new paid fans in the context of tickets, television and merchandise. But this is not the agenda of the National Hockey League and has not been since the 1960s.

I greatly appreciate the United States of America, its culture, its Christian culture, my American friends and readers. I have supported the New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils and Pittsburgh Penguins. I would just like to have a more competitive national balance if I am going to view the National Hockey League in the future. The National Hockey League is gambling that it can lose some Canadian hockey fans by gaining more in the United States of America.

My good friend and Mr. Rogers type friendly neighbour, Sir Walter Thomas Franklin was visiting a book store Saturday and being 'frugal', took home only free books.

In the evening, Mr. Rogers drove the short, walkable distance to my condominium. Mr. Rogers showed me this image within a free comic/graphic novel from one of his new books.

Note, I always walk to his house.

He stated that this (Thanos image) is what I look like when I am (paraphrased) 'fed up.'

Is this what training with martial arts and martial arts weapons, and lifting dumbbells gets me?

(Paraphrased): 'Golly, your build matches.' He stated.

Mr. Rogers also stated that my front door had a skunk living near it and to warn 'Pope Chuckles' if he was arriving for our visit as well. I replied, that I would do no such thing as a 'Chucky Is Skunked' satire post would be classic.

 
Mr. Rogers is the same friend that years ago tagged me 'The Kingpin', due to my large muscle amount, without being a six pack male model, pretty boy. or beach bum.

This explains the original URL and title of my first blog/website, before being changed to match my PhD status.

Ironically, Mr. Rogers was a six pack pretty boy that entered into a 'Mr. Maple Ridge Natural Body Builder/Beauty Pageant' on more that one occasion.

Supposedly, no one in the competition did 'roids', but they pranced around, greased up and did some dance numbers.

Apparently, I have graduated from 'The Kingpin' to 'Thanos' due to weight reduction and UPPP and Rhinoplasty sleep apnea surgeries. 

A mutual friend of both of ours, in the past has tagged me as 'The Thing'. You get the picture...

Hockey Night, Not In Canada

This is a non-exhaustive and speculative sports philosophy entry. I was texting with my good friend, JB, this evening, and we agreed the following:

As Canadian citizens, benefiting from this democratic country, we have a sense of obligation to support Canadian National Hockey League clubs in general.

This does not prohibit me from supporting American clubs, as I have supported the New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins and New Jersey Devils over several playoffs.

On the other hand, we deduce based on media and social means, that there are other Canadians, including in Metropolitan Vancouver, that I would call Nuckleheads, named after the Vancouver Canucks and Nucks, that in envy and bitterness, will often or always, cheer against another Canadian team in the playoffs. For example, if the slight underdog, Ottawa Senators win the Stanley Cup  this will leave only the Winnipeg Jets and the Vancouver Canucks without a championship.

Sacrifices Must Be Made?

The other day, I heard this common expression on television.

'Sacrifices must be made.'

I am not certain of the context as it was brief and promotional. Very often this statement is made in a political, military, religious and social context.

As in, someone else needs to the die for a cause. The supposed greater good.

My sarcastic and satirical question to a person making this statement would be:

'If you demand a sacrifice, alright, let us start with the person that suggested it.'

Now I realize that the person suggesting a sacrifice may not always be a good person to make the sacrifice; if such a sacrifice is even good. But, I would like the person making such a suggestion to seriously consider his/her ethical and moral position.

In the Hebrew Bible and New Testament, God decided that 'sacrifices must be made', and ultimately sacrificed God the Son, for the sins of the world.
