Leaving propositional truth? : kicktipp fifteen

Facebook

Leaving propositional truth?

I recently had interaction with a Christian leader that opined (paraphrased) that with present evangelism in Canada, when dealing with millennials, generally there is significant difficulty in presenting propositions in regard to worldview. In other words, this approach did not compute with millennials today.

In contrast, I specialized in that approach with PhD/MPhil theses only degrees from the University of Wales in Theology/Philosophy of Religion. I embedded my own solution to the problem of evil and actually had to write empirical propositions for surveys for both degrees!

But I agree with his observation. As a general observation.

Working at the Canadian Bible Society (and also as a theology/philosophy of religion blogger), this type of approach is not in favour with most of western society, although it provides foundations for Christian faith and philosophy.

I am not willing to at all abandon a propositional approach, but can also understand that there is the need for practical evangelism and in fact I did focus on practical theology in my British work.
Four for four today with results, with one correct score. My totals bring me to 58%.

If you do not score, you cannot win: kicktipp fourteen

Sad, but not shocked to see Germany out. I had to pick a winner with Kicktipp, so I picked Germany; none of the clubs look like sure bets. I will admit Brazil is better this time, but Europe still has France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Croatia and England in the mix. Germany, this time, as in many tournaments I have viewed, had trouble scoring and are therefore rightfully out. France was my second pick to win it...I remain at 55%.

Kicktipp twelve: I placed my faith in eventual mediocre performances

Telegraph: June 25: Ronaldo musses penalty kick.

Only 1/4 today and am at 56%. Really mediocre performances from Spain and Portugal today. As I placed my faith in eventual mediocre performances, my performance too was mediocre.

Sixty-four percent: kicktipp ten (Almost)

The Gazette

Another good day with two correct results and one additional correct goal difference with correct result. A good Germany comeback. I expect them to advance to the second round, but not win the tournament, this time. I am at 62%. I almost had 64% closing in on 2/3..

Kicktipp eight: Europe 4peat?

Today: The new French World Cup dance was released to the public. Getty Images
I am now at 57%, but am thrilled I was incorrect going with the experts and picking Argentina to win. I think Brazil is good, but a Europe 4peat is a reasonable possibility. Again, when so many experts pick Brazil and Argentina to win every World Cup, I doubt the objectivity.

Kicktipp seven: I have been blogging for over 'tenure'?

Voice of Nigeria: Spain today

The Province December 2013

Heard this story today...

In 1996, Henderson’s first season with San Diego, he boarded the team bus and was looking for a seat. Steve Finley said, “You have tenure, sit wherever you want.” Henderson looked at Finley and said, “Ten years? Ricky’s been playing at least 16, 17 years.”

Kicktipp six: Media ignoring facts on Russia/Soviet Union

Decent day. I have one correct result and correct goal difference. I am at 53% correct results with 9/17. . A word on Russia and football. I am not a Russia supporter with football, whatsoever, but I am a facts man. I find it a little annoying that in general, the commentators portray Russia as having a poor international football history. This is half truth. The Soviet Union or Russia has not been in the FIFA World Cup Final. The Soviet Union with which Russia usually shares its football records. has won the first UEFA European Championships in 1960 and was runner-up in 1964, 1972 and 1988. The Euros arguably are not as prestigious as the World Cup, with a smaller global audience, but are also arguably a higher level of European only competition. Second only to the club team UEFA Champions League with high salary and high value, club teams.

Kicktipp five: 'Big comeback'

Sunday barbecue with Annabelle on patrol...

'Big comeback', no thanks to me, just my choices, I am now at 57%. One correct score today, and two other correct results after the disaster of yesterday. My last competition where I played a system of choosing W1, W2, or Draw per game, at Euro 2016, I ended up with 45%, which is reasonably good. But I would like to finish with over 50%. I am hoping tomorrow goes smoothly. I am enjoying seeing some people jump off the Brazil bandwagon after they did not have an easy win. Brazil and to a lesser extent, Argentina, are so often the expert's default picks to win the World Cup, I wonder about the objectivity at times. I think some pick 'flash'.

I was eating barbecue as I was skunked, kicktipp four

I was skunked today at kicktipp, but as I was at a nice late spring barbecue for the early afternoon to early evening, my day was still better than the one Germany and Brazil had...

Sixty-three percent, I will take it, kicktipp three

France today: India Times
Much better day three than day two. I earned two points with the correct result for France versus Australia. I was incorrect in picking that Argentina would defeat Iceland, but hoping for the Euro World Cup '4peat', I am still pleased with the actual score. Argentina will struggle perhaps? Thank the Lord, with kicktipp, I have my first two correct scores and results with the last two matches today. I am at.625% or 63%. This helps to make it worth getting up for 3 am until 8 am.

Bad day, kicktipp two

If Spain would have held on for a one goal difference win, I would have 8 points, but nope. Four points for correct score, three points for correct result and goal difference, two points for correct result. My kicktipp prediction. Hopefully a better day, Saturday...

African pastor eaten by crocodile, during baptism???

Buzzy.ph

I was listening to a sermon online today.

Pastor Courson stated the recent story of an African Pastor being eaten alive by a crocodile while performing a baptism.

Friendly Atheist June 5 2018

Every few months, it seems, we hear another story about an African pastor doing something religious in a large lake… only to drown himself, drown the person getting baptized, or get eaten by a crocodile. Today’s story, from Ethiopia, involves a crocodile.

Quoting BBC

Docho Eshete was conducting the ceremony for about 80 people on Sunday morning at Lake Abaya in Arba Minch town’s Merkeb Tabya district. Residents and police told BBC Amharic a crocodile leapt from the water during the baptism and attacked him. Pastor Docho died after being bitten on his legs, back and hands.

As I write this, there are multiple news outlets talking about the same story… but keep a few things in mind since we’re all trying to be good skeptics here: Every article cites the same BBC report I quoted above. Whenever a story cites a single source, with very little first-hand reporting, you should question it.

Cited

Look at who’s writing about it. I don’t care who they’re citing. If the British tabloids and FOX News are the most likely places you’re hearing about this story, it’s bound to be a hoax.

Crocodile kills Ethiopian pastor during lake baptism

'He baptised the first person and he passed on to another one. All of a sudden, a crocodile jumped out of the lake and grabbed the pastor," local resident Ketema Kairo told the BBC.

Is the story true or not? Either way, another bizarre Christianity related story from Africa...

Is a PhD in Theology/Philosophy of Religion, otherwise useless?

Northern Canada

It seems to me many observers reason a PhD in Religious Studies, Biblical Studies, Theology, Philosophy of Religion provides the Doctor a narrow field of expertise, perhaps unrelatable and useless for many. In some cases I reason there is truth to that assumption.

I agree with what was mentioned by some fellow students and professors when I began my academic journey in the 1990's. That being that good reasoning ability should be a result of academic study.

In Christ, a Christian taking a PhD in Religious Studies, Biblical Studies, Theology, Philosophy of Religion should be both spiritually enlightened by God the Holy Spirit, within the Trinity and simultaneously have good to excellent reasoning skills. There should exist knowledge and wisdom, and an approach to knowledge and wisdom, at least in general terms, significantly beyond the scope of the PhD.

New taxi service for kittens

The mighty Fraser...

Saturday night, serious and satirical

Paraphrased

Mr. X: There is some bad teaching and weird people in these local singles groups.

Dr. Kingpin: Yes, many have mental issues too. Skid Row, Planet of the Apes (hygiene) groups, etcetera.

(I do not want any misunderstanding. This is a satire website. I like many of these people. I appreciate mental illness is a serious issue and I pray for these people. However, a ministry to those with mental issues should not be fused with any kind of singles ministry, whatsoever. Those with mental issues should have them significantly dealt with and fixed before seeking a romantic relationship. This point is missed in these groups by leadership. I am not attacking people, I am using satire to point out folly. Leaders with mental issues and related unsuccessful relationships, also should not be offering dogmatic advice on dating and marriage, to anyone, including to myself. I have married friends I ask for advice and have done years of my own research.)

Garbage Guts: Yes, look at the leaders...

Garbage Guts: Let's form a cult and get kicked out of church! (Is the approach).

Mr. X: Wow! (Laughs) True...

Dr. Kingpin: Ageist too. Wanna be overseers, but he/she will not risk the education and the inevitable rejections of trying to earn a ministry job..(As I have faced).

Mr. X: It is like crabs in a bucket. What is wrong with an older man and younger woman getting together for marriage in Christ? When they relate and like each other.

Dr. Kingpin: I was told I need to adopt!

Garbage Guts: Yes, date way below you. Forget having your own kids...

Garbage Guts: Asians with Asians....

Garbage Guts: All market approach.

Dr. Kingpin: Big stomach for big stomach, even if the guy is a Kingpin and just walked the streets for several hours in the heat in Utah. Market value dating.

Mr. X: What about actual attraction? Otherwise it does not work!

Dr. Kingpin: Yes, 1 Corinthians 7...

Mr. X: Socialist mentality. The women over 45 cannot have children, so neither can you!

Dr. Kingpin: Feminism too. Same reasons.

Mr. X (Dr. Kingpin) You are fine, many Asians like a bigger man with muscles. A sign of prosperity.

Dr. Kingpin: Yes, I need to go to Russia (Asia, South America)...or pretend to be a Mormon and go to Utah.

Garbage Guts: Dr. Charles Norman Russell...

Dr. Kingpin: I do not want to be like Brigham Young.

Garbage Guts: Well, you are rich now.

Mr. X: Nissan Murano.

Mr. X: Let's do a trip to (South) Korea...

Garbage Guts: No, we need to follow Focus on the Family, Boundless...

Mr. X (Garbage Guts): Would you consider an Asian?

Garbage Guts: I do not like the family dynamic (controlling).

Mr. X: (Dr. Kingpin) Would you consider someone older (Than 20's-30's)?

Dr. Kingpin: Yes, but I would like the option of our own children...Being told I have to adopt is stupid and insulting.

Mr. X: Do any of these people work?
