The Loch Ness Monster

Lake Loch Ness-trekearth

MATTHEWS, RUPERT (ed.) PAUL ROLAND, KAREN FARRINGTON, LUCY DONCASTER, ANDREW HOLLAND, (2009) The Encyclopedia of the Paranormal, London, Arcturus.

The text states that in Lake Loch Ness a creature has been often seen and at times even photographed. (2009: 92). The Monster is nicknamed 'Nessie'.

The first recorded exploit is from the 6th century and from Saint Columbia that allegedly saved a man from an attack from the Monster. (2009: 92).

Sightings have increased since 1933 when a motor road was built along the shores of Lake Loch Ness for the first time and prior to that only the locals had supposedly seen the creature. (2009: 92).

With the road, first hundreds and then thousands of people came to the Lake daily, because of the legend. (2009: 92).

My family too did likewise in our European tour. I wanted an autograph...

Yes I looked for the Monster, I was just a kid. It was a huge industry by then.

The encyclopedia states that the first supposed experience to make news headlines was that of a John McKay just a few weeks after the road work had been completed. He claimed to see 'an enormous animal rolling and plunging on the surface'. (2009: 92).

There is the famous 'Surgeon's Photo' taken by Dr. Robert Wilson in 1934. Yes, that is the photo above.

On September 1952, John Cobb was attempting to break the world water speed record in his speedboat Crusader on Loch Ness. The water was calm but the speeding boat at maximum speed hit a patch of ripples and Cobb died instantly. Later analysis via films shows the waves were caused by a 'low wake', but no small boat was nearby, so the assumption was the Monster caused the accident. It was assumed swimming submerged but still close to surface. (2009: 93).

This does seem highly speculative blaming the cause of death of a human being on a creature that is not even empirically known to exist.

Reminding me of Aliens but I digress...

The text states that in 1960 a 'holiday maker' (Funny British term for sure) noted this type of activity, as in causing a wake on the Lake and caught it on film. The object that caused it was estimated to be about five feet wide and dived below the surface. (2009: 93).

In July 1963, two fisherman Mr. McL and Mr. C were in a small boat on the Lake angling for salmon. The waves were calm and then the boat was rocked as by a wave and for about ten seconds a long neck topped by head sort of like a dog came out of the water. The creature then sank out of sight. (2009: 93).

In 1970, the 'Big Expedition' from the University of Chicago and Roy Mackal used high-tech sonar, hydrophones and underwater cameras. They found that hydrophones picked up sounds sounding like creatures using 'echo-location pulses' to find food. The hydrophones could also hear bird chirping noises from the deep central Loch and the sonar picked up a large object which did move from side to side which could be a flipper or tail. (2009: 93).

A 1975 photo from a new expedition showed several photos which may have been of the Monster. But determining scale was not accomplished and thus it could not be determined what it was, even with the best photo. Perhaps it was a fish. (2009: 93).

In 2003, a BBC 'Nessie' hunt occurred with 600 sonar beams. This exercise supported the cause of the skeptics. (2009: 93-94).

Another story is that bizarrely the earlier Loch Ness Monster sightings were actually of elephants.

During the 1930s a travelling circus owned by Bertram Mills went to the Lake by the banks and took the elephants for a swim. (2009: 94)

Mills offered a reward for the capture of The Loch Ness Monster once he realized his elephants were a cause of the supposed sightings. (2009: 94)

However, sightings still exist until today (2009) the text states, and not all are from persons involved in the local tourist trade which is a frequent accusation from skeptics and critics.

I reason even if at some point the empirical existence of a creature, likely pre-historic can be reasonably proven, it would not make the creature a Monster.

It may simply be an unexplained creature, previously unknown to modern science.

Or it is a hoax...

Please no one suggest Aliens created The Loch Ness Monster and left it here on earth, I digress...

Theological Lessons From Film

Bern-Via email

Contrary to the Blogger application, this is my second new post of July 20th.

DZP from Dr. RNM

I spent a part of the day (19th) walking around town in 80+F heat and I generally do better getting my seven to eight hours sleep later and that explains the early morning postings. I will not complain about the heat as many years here in Maple Ridge we are fortunate to receive a month's worth of summer type weather and this year we have already. Overcast with chance of rain is the default weather. Yes, I would not mind moving, but weather is one issue.

The DZP article is another technical post which is not so much long overall, but has many footnotes which may be why the Blogger application does not indicate it as the newest post. The previous post on that blog, 'Epicurus' is also technical with some debating and the previous post on this blog is fairly controversial and therefore I reason it is time for something lighter and note this has fiction.

Dirty Harry 1971 with actor Albert Popwell as a bank robber.

He states the famous line 'I gots to know' on whether or not the gun was loaded.

Mr. Popwell returns in the next three films as a pimp, underworld figure and finally a police officer. A very good actor, I would reason.

Crime does not pay is a good lesson. He ended up working with the police, although he died...

Crime does not pay would be something which is generally true, in a sense, but is not always the case. It does pay for many for a time.

That is also the overall context of Proverbs as in general truths.

Proverbs 3:31-32 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

31 Do not envy a man of violence And do not choose any of his ways. 32 For the devious are an abomination to the Lord; But [a]He is intimate with the upright.

Easy Money 1983 (A little naughty, but funny)

James 2: 5-10 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

5 Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor [e]of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and [f]personally drag you into [g]court? 7 Do they not blaspheme the fair name [h]by which you have been called? 8 If, however, you are fulfilling the [i]royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. 9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the [j]law as transgressors. 10 For whoever keeps the whole [k]law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.

Lost Highway 1997 (Is funny and interesting but has swearing.)

Colossians 3: 25 New American Standard Bible (NASB) 25 For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and [f]that without partiality.

A certain friend, blog reader, a loving Father to his daughter and husband to his wife, and believe it or not the Father of 'Powder'.

Not on still clip, but on full film clickable.

Proverbs 23:24 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

24 The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, And he who sires a wise son will be glad in him.

Winners Canada 2013

I have been waiting for one of these Winners Canada ads to finally arrive on YouTube because for months they have been on Showcase in the middle of the night (early morning), and many of them. One of the YouTube comments is quote: 'Most annoying commercial EVER.' which is what I expected. You can of course judge. But to me the singer sounds like some whacked out eighty-year old left over from one of the American variety shows from when I was about four years old that did too many drugs earlier in her life.

So, the lesson would be...

Do not do drugs.

Brief Thoughts On Satanism and Protesters

Les Calanques, Marseille-trekearth

My friend Philip from Southern California shared the following article with me via email.

 '‘Hail Satan!’: The new ‘pro-choice’ mantra LIFESITENEWS.COM - July 8, 2013'

Quotes

'In the war between life and death, all eyes are on Texas as the Lone Star State legislature is poised to pass a sweeping late-term abortion ban. Gov. Rick Perry has pledged to sign the bill into law. The lines have been clearly drawn surrounding this progress toward equality and civil rights for pre-born Americans. Not surprisingly, as the pro-abortion side loses legislative battle after legislative battle, its “true colors” are coming into focus. Those colors are darker than many might have imagined.'

And

'Although, our pro-abortion media will not likely give it much coverage, a similar such flashpoint of clarity occurred this past Tuesday in the Texas State House as pro-abortion activists, throughout the day, shouted “Hail Satan!” in an effort to drown out pro-life speeches and an impromptu rendering of “Amazing Grace.” CNN’s Josh Rubin confirmed this astonishing display by tweeting on site: “Crowd of anti-abortion activists giving speeches while a group of people chant hail Satan in the background.”'

My focus in this article is not primarily the abortion issue, although I will state that due to what I reason is reasonable medical and scientific evidence that humanity/human beings begin at conception I am opposed to abortion on demand.

In other words I would only philosophically support abortion as a rare life saving medical measure for the Mother or perhaps in the case of multiple babies. I will not claim to have medical education on the matter and therefore will not attempt to go into medical detail but will remain in the philosophical context.

The issue of humanity of the unborn does not seem to be the issue of philosophical debate, as often or as much as the issue of 'rights'.  In particular women's rights on the pro-choice side, and more balance on the pro-life side usually from what I hear and read with concern for rights for women and children.

I have discussed rights philosophically recently on both blogs which can be viewed in archives.

I support the rights of women and children.

But this would be obvious for frequent readers.

As well, I think the issue of whether or not there is a human spirit involved in an unborn child is not essential in the context of the debate, as in since scientifically a conceived zygote-embryo is fully human then the issue of a spirit's existence or not is only one aspect of humanity, although essential according to a Christian worldview separating human beings from all other physical earthly creatures.

Basically a decently rational humanistic view should understand a conceived zygote-embryo as fully human even without accepting the existence of the spirit. Full humanity even without full human development or personality.

My main focus of this article is the question of Satanism.

I remember several years listening to a tape, which I still own and transferred to mini-disc which Walter R. Martin discusses Anton LaVey and the Church of Satan. The understanding was that within this type of modern Satanism, 'Satan' was not believed to be real, but rather 'Satanism' was a form of humanism, a metaphorical form.

I ponder philosophically if some of the pro-choice protesters take this view of Satan and Satanism, or is it perhaps something more sinister.

I am admittedly not an expert on the occult and do not advertise myself as one in the blog headers or in my biography and this is a reason the post is brief, but as a philosopher and student of religion I have reasoned in my mind that over the thousands of years of recorded human history, that it seems quite unlikely that all Satanists were/are actually metaphorical humanists.

It seems quite unlikely that all organized groups of Satanists were/are actually metaphorical humanists or some other type of Satanists that worship/worshipped Satan and perhaps demons in a metaphorical sense.

I. Hexham mentions that in the modern world there many neopagan movements that are connected to witchcraft and even Satanism. Hexham (1996: 973).  Some are underground and some claim to be revivals of ancient Druidism, or Greek or Egyptian mystery religions.

In an organized context, not just in an individual basis, I reason it likely that in human history some persons have been and are foolish enough to worship a fallen angel in perhaps the hopes that he and his demons will one day overcome the God of the Bible. Or perhaps they reason that the final judgment of Revelation 20, the lake of fire, an everlasting hell for Satan, demonic beings, and those outside of Christ, is a reasonable resting place worth striving for. Perhaps they believe in Satan and his partners, but not the Bible and that somehow Satan is actually the most powerful finite god or the most powerful entity in existence and therefore is worth worshiping.

There are online rumours, which existed to some extent previously, in regard to Illuminati, that supposedly actually worship Satan and wish to bring in a one world government under the antichrist, but there must be more evidence of such an organization or organizations.

A Dictionary Of Idioms

Majorca, Spain-Facebook

Yes it would have been nice to have been in that water today. As it will be nice tomorrow. But I live in Greater Vancouver and not Spain.

I thank God, I am drinking Perrier from France after a day out in the sun.

Points:

For the sake of gaining more potential 'Likes' and Followers quite reluctantly at first today I joined Google+ with more than one Google account and now have two full Google+ accounts with both of my Google/Blogger accounts. I reason now it is for the best, but now I need two sets of more Followers. Previously, I was just on Google+ with my other first blog.

Therefore anyone interested please follow and I will reciprocate in all likelihood, with either blog or both blogs.

My ebook from 2010 has been published on my other blog and in basically two days by my humble standards is doing quite well with pageviews. I reason it may eventually be the top rated post, or close, on the other blog.

It looks like I should have not listened to some supposed experts in attempting to market the ebook online via perhaps questionable professional sites for three years and instead should have just used Blogger where I have been steadily and slowly been building a brand name for myself.

Live and learn. But I discussed such previously in regard to three different internet marketing courses I have taken.

Yes, I will not receive payment this method, but at least I receive traffic which could lead to other career opportunities.

And I had thought of just marketing the project through Blogger in the beginning...

How To Write A Successful Thesis

Thank you

Not to be confused with

A Dictionary of Idiots

accord (page 1)

The definition on page one notes 'of one's own accord' 'of one's own free will' The statement 'without being forced to' is also added.

Therefore I suppose within compatibilistic freewill, which is limited free will. It could be correctly stated that one chooses freely of his/her own accord via nature, as long as it is understood that God, is the first cause of not forced or coerced, significantly free secondary causes, even if they are viewed as basically virtually taking place simultaneously from a human finite perspective.

pick (someone's) brains (page 37)

To ask someone questions in order to receive ideas.

This has absolutely nothing to do with the present Zombie film and video game craze...

chew the fat (slang) (page 109)

To have a chat or discussion.

This is not necessarily a chat between two very fat people.

a flight of fancy (page 119)

A rather too free use of the imagination.

This is definitely not a flight on Air Transat (Air Sardine Can).

Swallow one's pride (page 369)

That could mean eating one's own experimental meal.

Back in 2002 a certain friend visited and made a special meal called 'Butter'. This was stated with a fancy Queen's English accent. Problem was this dear friend misread the ingredients which were supposed to be majority chocolate and minority butter and basically served butter bars with chocolate covering...

tan (someone's) hide (page 375)

Some people, especially fair skinned Caucasians spend too much time in the tanning booth and end upooking a little alien and should hide from the cameraman/person.
