| As I discussed on the Russell Norman Murray Facebook page, this is my stocky, Canadian, Mennonite friend, Mr. Hipp, crazy waving and begging me to attend his birthday barbecue. Canadian myth? Do all stocky, Canadian men look like brothers? Well, first, Mr. Hipp is a stocky Canadian Mennonite and his kind girlfriend that I had never met before from the Philippines, insisted I was Mr. Matt when she met me. Mr. Matt is also a stocky Canadian, but Presbyterian and attends Grace Church. But when Mr. Matt showed up, Mr. Hipp explained to his girlfriend that I was the 'theology' guy. Mr. Hipp and his girlfriend then began a theological discussion with me, with his girlfriend telling him to be quiet as he was a Mennonite and I have a PhD. Another friend from the Presbyterian church, Grace Church, this one German, showed up at the barbecue and asked me if I spend much time with Russ? Therefore, he confused me with Pope Chucklins, another stocky Canadian, Mennonite. Both Chuckles and Hipp have turned their (likely) hairy Canadian backs on the Mennonite church and instead attend a Presbyterian church and learn all that Reformed doctrine at Grace Church. So, if there is a Canadian myth here that all Canadian stocky men look like brothers, please let me state for the record that I, at least, have a lot of muscle in my stock! No comment on my supposed brothers.... |
