This cracked me up: Martial Arts v Vodka?

Yet another martial arts posting...

The music, the mention of Arnold and the martial arts attempt, cracked me up, especially on TikTok.

Ephesians 5:18  English Standard Version (ESV)

18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit...

Transit safety tips for my younger student friends & Chuckles when his SUV breaks down & he has to use transit

The video was on my TikTok today.

On the video, I like the defending kick to the groin and then holding the transit pole to place the left roundhouse kick. However, having the second kick knock the attacker out is pretty unlikely, unless one has powerful, probably trained, kicks.

Only if the situation was truly serious and law and order and personal safety threatened, would I use the following, if I could. With my own training and moves, I would probably grab the attacking leg (ankle), place it is a gable grip (ankle) and then kick out or sweep the set leg. I could do this with either my left or right leg, depending on how this situation played out. I then simultaneously, would pull the attacking leg (from the ankle), I am holding onto with a gable grip, in the opposite direction the attacker is falling.

A female or much smaller male should probably have some type of legally purchased distance weapon ready to use if being kicked like that and alone in a transit situation. Defend quickly, to the face, and then flee as much as possible.

Chuckles?

You might try grabbing the attacking leg (ankle), sweeping  or kicking the other set leg, and then falling on the attacker with a body slam. A fall with a knee to the head of the attacker would probably be a stunning development.

That fits into my skill-set...

As I already work with elbow strikes, that is an excellent move to practice. Seems to me I have done moves like that in our light sparring in the loft (now my bedroom), over the years. By the way, the 'domed' defender looks quite a bit like my good friend, 'The Rage'.

Next phase of condo changes

Photo: I like a clutter-free environment, good for walking and martial arts weapons exercise.

Thanks to assistance from Sir Charles Nelson Chuckles, that stated he represented 'Red Dome Renovations', the upstairs part of the condominium where I live has been upgraded again.

Dad also provided some good advice and a very helpful extension cord.

As Mom was placed in care a few years back and Fraser Health informed me that Mom would never return (this was obvious), I went ahead at that time with the beginning of the renovations.

This was new flooring for every room, other than the sunroom. The installer stated it had the strongest flooring in the place, that should never be changed, only cleaned as needed.

I also bought new furniture and a new dishwasher. As the documentation is being finalized for me to officially be listed as owner, through inheritance (I did homecare for Mom for almost 20 years, as well as worked toward a PhD), I wanted to make the upstairs more work friendly. As in working from home, if needed.

My former bedroom, is now an office where I have my desk and computer equipment. The office has a door that can be closed, unlike the open loft area. I actually completed the majority of my MPhil/PhD work in the loft, which is now my bedroom.

After one night of the change, I am very pleased. As I had hoped, I slept better in the loft than in the bedroom, because the ceiling fan was above me and turned on for the first time in 2022. The loft seems cooler, temperature-wise than the previous bedroom while sleeping. The sunroom registered, at 105 degrees Fahrenheit and similar temperatures, this last summer. I also now finally have an office with a window. I regret now not setting my upstairs up this way in the beginning. When my Mom bought this property, she was very concerned about my opinion of it. Just in case, I did not move away after earning my PhD, and stayed here. This now appears the more likely scenario, long-term, although with work I might have to travel.

My Zoom room will now be different, as my computer for Zoom, is in the new office. There is no décor on the walls in this office, which is my former bedroom. I have zero interest in moving anything in here, decoration wise, from the loft. The Zoom view will basically be the windows which connects to the sunroom which itself  has larger windows. To the right of the office window will be the white closet. White walls. So, I would consider 1 to 3 small items that I could decorate the walls with for Zoom. Any ideas, please let me know the way you would usually chat with me.

Questionable thing to teach a child/Emergency tips

TikTok video II: If you do not like martial arts, I have provided an Emergency safety tips video which I find simultaneously informative and amusing. The violins.

Since I will never own or use a condom, that one is out...

I think my comment might be TikTok heresy, but who cares?

So if it is a polar bear facing a person, the human being should just accept being dead soon? I see the video provided one self-defence, emergency tip.

TikTok video I: Being taught moves like that in Karate was one of the reasons I quit traditional Karate after about two years. Very few human beings have the athleticism to perform an effective high crescent kick (demonstrated) or a high front kick, that would do much damage to an opponent in a fight.

Worse, I have learned through my own reading, training and online training from an MMA trainer, that using high kicks, can lead to terrible physical consequences, for example, if the kick is caught in a defence with a gable grip. Please see the video for an example of the use of the gable grip.

Image: jiu-jitsu-dictionary-Gable-Grip

The video features my MMA trainer, Trav. Please excuse the swearing, if it offends. He is a very kind and nice, family man to deal with via email.

I use the guillotine grip and hold both standing and on the ground. I have used it on a training partner and had it used on me in practice mode, as in this will lead to unconsciousness, if not countered.

To use the guillotine grip, I grab my wrist mainly, as done by other trainers, but I could grab the finger tips as he suggests.

The video @4: 30 forward features a version of the gable grip. So, it can be fatal. I am in total agreement with the video that it should be used in a life and death situation only, and that would include against multiple attackers with weapons.

The video @ 8: 00 forward has Trav state (paraphrased) to freak out some housewives...funny.

That gable grip can be used against a high kick, by grasping the attacking leg and ankle in a gable grip, and simultaneously kicking out or sweeping the other leg of the attacker. The gripped/locked ankle can be aggressively pulled in the opposite direction that the attacker is falling. This is a likely fight ender and can lead to damage to the attacker's leg, knee and hips, not to mention the back of the head with the fall. In agreement with my trainer, the gable grip in particular, should only be used in a life and death situation. I would add, in particular versus multiple, armed opponents.

From a New Testament perspective, a person should be seeking to be at peace with all people (Romans 12: 8) and it is the duty of the state to maintain law and order (Romans 13, 1 Peter 2). Deadly force should only be used by the public within law and order, as in legal, self-defence.

Real Fighting Exposed II

TikTok video: Some expert work from @s1ai3m with nunchaku, also known as nunchuks. I have never used them. I work with a few legally purchased knives, two baseball bats, wood clubs and carbon fibre knuckles.

I received a standard, promotional, email from my online MMA and self-defence trainer from New Jersey, today. FightSmartTrav. I have taken two online courses with him in the past. Some excellent advice within the email.

Cited

Stop it. I beg of you. It doesn't matter how tough or proud you are... just. stop. Even if you are an experienced fighter, it is very difficult to react to a punch thrown within arm's reach, unless you are in an athletic position, and literally waiting for your opportunity to react.

Photo: I bought this at Canadian Tire and use it for my techniques. I agree with Trav. In any potential conflict whether or not an aggressor might have a weapon or not, keep your distance and keep an eye on the aggressor and/or aggressors. Even an excellent fighter can be taken out by a quick physical attack and or/weapons, quickly. I am a proficient, non-expert as a fighter and boosted significantly with weapons, but I would always look to avoid any conflict.

Don't be dumb macho (paraphrased) is an aspect of what Trav is teaching.

Real fighting exposed

Real fighting exposed

This entry in contrast with a recent entry: Monday, March 14, 2022: Fake fighting exposed

TikTok video 1: Yes, that is an effective front kick from a horse. Effective for an initial stun move. If that was a human front kick, it may need to be followed up with finishing moves, if the situation warrants for the sake of self-defence. I have read that horses bite and kick.

TikTok video 2: This is technically an excellent move. Also proficient as a knife defence. My friend JCZ, that is a black belt in Aikido, showed me that move years ago, and we practiced it. I have two alternate moves that I prefer, both learned in my brief time in Karate and altered for street fighting.

Facing a punch: One, is I would hopefully wrap my left arm overtop the attacker's right arm (or the opposite if I am attacked with the left, in each example), locking the attacking right arm at the elbow, with my left arm forcing the attacking arm upward, as I simultaneously strike the attacker in the head or throat (sorry folks) with a very hard, right elbow strike (s). Two, is I would hopefully place my left arm under the attacking right arm, locking the attacking right arm and the shoulder and then simultaneously striking the attacker in in the head or throat with a very hard elbow strike (s).

These elbow strikes are probably from the side, as in a horizontal elbow strike (s), similar to a hook punch.

By the way, these elbow strikes can be deadly and generally not expected. A benefit to my stocky build is my upper body striking strength. Someone might be defensively taking away a punch, but are not expecting elbow strikes. Seems to me when hitting the martial arts bag my punches and elbow strikes were very roughly the same striking force.

Facing a knife: This move on the video is excellent. But I would probably use a two-handed grab, and then attempt a right arm elbow strike simultaneously, probably to the head or face. I obviously would have to move my body in a way that I would be both further away from the knife than the attacker intends, and also moving inside in order to strike with significant force.

This elbow strike would probably be a reverse elbow strike. In other words, striking, more definitively, with the point of the elbow.

TikTok video 3: I am amazed that I keep catching my Norwegian friend Arne, on video, with his part-time driving jobs.

Imagine if many wanted their former empires back

Imagine if many wanted their former empires back

Facebook Image

I am opposed to imperialism and colonization, philosophically. But in a very connected issue, trying to reason who land really belongs to historically, and how biblical Christians should deal with it, can often be very tricky.

Consider...

1 Peter 2:17 New American Standard Bible (NASB) 17 Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the [a]king.

Footnotes: a 1 Peter 2:17 Or emperor

Romans 13: 1-2 New American Standard Bible (NASB) 13 Every [a]person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except [b]from God, and those which exist are established by God. 2 Therefore [c]whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.

Footnotes: a Romans 13:1 Or soul b Romans 13:1 Lit by c Romans 13:2 Lit he who

Concerning Romans 13, F.F. Bruce writes that human government is a divine ordinance and has the powers of coercion and commendation which it has been given by God. By Christians obeying the state, they are in a sense, serving God. Bruce (1987: 221). Bruce reasons that the Apostle Paul does not deal with the issue of unrighteous government here, but as with Acts 5: 29, Christians are to obey God and Christ and not the state when the state claims divine honours. Bruce (1987: 221).

Cranfield explains that in Romans 13, Paul is not asking for an uncritical obedience to the state, but rather that God has placed the state in authority over persons. Cranfield (1992: 321).

To maintain law and order, I would state.

So, New Testament Christians were to obey the Roman Empire and not seek revolution, even in occupied Israel. Biblical Christians were to live for the Gospel in peace.

Romans 12: 18 New American Standard Bible (NASB) If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all people.

Mounce states that in Romans 13, that there is a divinely sanctioned role of government and that Christians are responsible to that government. It did not make any difference that the governing authorities were secular. God is the sole source of authority and established the authority for the state. If the government oversteps its rightful domain, then according to Mounce the Christian should not obey the ruler and he notes this was done in Acts 4: 9 and 5: 29.

Does this allow any philosophical and theological room for armed, military, revolutionary activity by biblical Christians?

Perhaps where it can be argued that actual law and order is not being maintained at key points? Such as with the genocide that was taking place in Nazi Germany? But the Roman Empire was executing Christian believers during the New Testament era.

Tricky issues.

Concerning 1 Peter 2 13-15, Barclay explains that the concept of anarchy by the Christian is far from New Testament thought. Barclay reasons what belongs to Caesar (the state) should be given to it, and what belongs to God should be given to God (Matthew 22: 21). Barclay (1976: 205).

Both Cranfield and Barclay mention that Paul is discussing the concept of submitting to an authoritarian state, as in the Roman Empire of the New Testament era. Barclay (1976: 206) Cranfield (1992: 321). Barclay correctly point out in my view that in our modern West the need for Christians to participate in democratic government as it is for and by the people, at least idealistically. Barclay (1976: 206).

Fake fighting exposed

A TikTok video. The account seems to feature random events, so there is not much of a description for this video. I am not sure; perhaps these two are actors in films. Anyway, her 'dream' sequence shows the fake, phony, Hollywood or film, television, fighting where a much smaller person easily takes down a much larger person. He probably allows himself to be taken down. He assists. In the street scene, which is still theatrical, but more realistic, the man probably braces himself and holds his opponent in a way to take the fancy move away as an option.

In a non-theatrical 'street', real life situation, a much smaller person, as in this case, should consider the use of a legal weapon within his/her legal jurisdiction, and/or do fast defensive strikes to target areas that would stun the larger opponent. This would actually be an attacker (not just acting rude). Then leave immediately, if possible.

Woops/Whoops 1, 2, 3

Woops/Whoops 1: TikTok (I have no idea if the claim attached is accurate and there are no comments)

Woops/Whoops 2: TikTok (Reminds me of being hit by a wine bottle in England)

Woops/Whoops 3: (Theoretical, public service announcement) On my PC, I always turn off any program that could feature video communication, when it is not in use. There is NO reasonable possibility I could flash women from my church, and then have to apologize for it later. You are welcome.

Interesting theatrics

Back at home, but I have more chauffeuring duties on behalf of Mr. Charles Nelson Chuckles, later this evening, as he finalizes the financials on his newish Honda, SUV.

That TikTok video is interesting, but largely theatrics (playing), in my humble opinion. I agree with some of commenters that those wolves were probably trained by that man. Indeed, the TikTok channel is titled: A man that lives with wolves.

To be clear, those are beautiful animals that I would not wish to see any damage done to. The stick he is using would not likely be lethal in most situations.

However, if this was a real situation, based on my martial arts training, the length of the weapon is sufficient, but a heavier weapon that would yield more striking force would be preferable. A person would need to subdue 1-2 of the wolves immediately to encourage the rest to back off. A bladed weapon also might work in this situation, but my preference would be a heavier stick or metal club.

Of course some would rightly resort to firearms in a real life situation, for self-defence, where the life of a human being is threatened.

Nukes/Cracked me up: Quote>>>Go to a pub with a patio and I can hang out on the sidewalk like a bum

Cracked me up

A friend visiting from Winnipeg, next week, invited me and two other mutual, local, friends to a pub night next week.

Quoting a local, mutual friend:

I'm still banned from pubs.

Go to a pub with a patio and I can hang out on the sidewalk like a bum.

I am triple vaccinated within the pandemic context, but I am glad the mask mandate is over in British Columbia. At church I will put a mask on to chat with someone, if he/she is wearing a mask, in respect for the other person. Love your neighbour as self (Matthew 22, Mark 12, Luke 10, Galatians 5).

Woman Who Lets Her Facial Hair Grow Says It’s Tough To Find the Love of Her Life/My own bearded lady story

“I missed a waxing appointment and when my mum asked me why I simply said, ‘I think I’m just going to keep it.’ She was worried but she knew it was my decision. I spent the whole six-week summer holiday preparing myself and by the time I went back to start sixth form, I had a full beard.”

My own bearded lady story

In 1995, Saint Charles Nelson Chuckles and I spent a week in London, which is one of my favourite places to spend a week or so in. While on the Tube/London Underground I saw a bearded lady in tears making out with a man that was trying to console her by kissing her. She made a significant physical impression on me.

After our good week in London we kept the tour going and ended up in Birmingham, which at the time, at least, was the second most populated metropolitan area in Britain. Chuckles and I were in our hotel rooms and he was shaving while I was watching television. There was a show featuring the Edinburgh International Festival which we viewed personally later in the trip. Chucky was stating that if he did not shave he would look (paraphrased) noticeable, and I stated that he would not look as (paraphrased) noticeable as that bearded lady. At that point I looked at the television and within a few moments that bearded lady was introduced as a presenter at the Edinburgh International Festival. Bizarre!

The theological lessons?

Pray that one is ready for the unexpected. It is one lesson, anyway.

I certainly am absolutely, not on here to be negative about someone that has had it tough in life. But, as a person that has struggled with some physical issues in life, and is now more so on the up, in general, my thoughts on this type of issue can be found in the recent link below:

Another thing to watch out for on the streets

Early this morning, I viewed this video as a sponsored advertisement on TikTok. Based on the comments and a brief web search, the two versions of the Karambit 2022 are probably illegal in Canada. These weapons seem more deceptive than spring assisted knives or switchblades, because they can be spun around like a key chain or a remote device. A potential victim could think someone is spinning a key chain, or a remote device, while heading near the potential victim and then the blade is extended. Another reason to be careful on the streets and to consider carrying a legal, distance weapon, in your legal jurisdiction, for defensive purposes, only.

Brief Bullets: Being good more so than being too nice

Photo: Cologne Cathedral, February 24, 2022,  Facebook. I was fortunate enough to have visited there as a kid.

• Again, I am new to TikTok.

• Thankfully, TikTok is now filtering out many of the 'promotional' accounts.

• I am viewing more Christian and psychology based video clips.

• I am busy with work related activities.

• That means more shorter posts on this website, as opposed to longer posts on Dr. Russell Norman Murray.
---

• I think this coach has many reasonable ideas from a secular (not Christian) perspective.

• I am not following him, I might follow for follow on TikTok.

• @ roughly the 13 second mark forward, I can agree from my various online reading and You Tube videos, women generally do not date down, socially and economically.

• Biblically, a man should love his neigbour as self (Matthew 22, Mark 12, Luke 10, Galatians 5, as examples).

• People within the Christian Church should love one another (John, I-II John, as examples)

• In dealing with people, a Christian man should not be too passive and weak, nor too aggressive and strong.

• A Christian man should not be abusive, whatsoever.

• A Christian man should not be rude to anyone.

• Rudeness to others, as well is noted in secular and Christian videos I have watched as a fatal, relationship, red flag.

• I should never be rude, not to be nice.

• @ roughly the 55 second mark forward, agreed, a man should not be a 'yes' man.

• Working on a British PhD, as a moderate conservative, in a liberal, secular academic system, especially helped me to further develop my use of the respectful 'no'.

• @ roughly the 1 minute mark, yes, changing plans for a woman's plans, when there is no relationship is problematic.

• This reminds me of a You Tube commenter that often states that many modern women are looking for a handyman only.

• Yes, @ approximately the 1: 30 mark, in agreement, I am a good guy as opposed to necessarily a nice guy.

• This is not a new philosophy for me, I wrote on this back in 2010...

• I stated: Biblically, I am with God's help trying to be loving and kind but need to stand for the truth. I in no way claim anywhere near apostolic authority but in Acts 5 Peter was not nice and two people died as a result.

• I stated: Sometimes it is ethically superior not to be nice.

• @ 1: 40 forward, approximately, in agreement, it is good to be nice, but often too nice is problematic.

• @ 2: 00 mark, approximately, I do not have a problem with texting back soon, that is just being respectful.

• @ 2: 00 mark, approximately, being too available is a problem.

• A man should be social and good.

• A man should be nice to a point, only.

• In my case, my social interactions often have more to do with who is socially open, and in no way, necessarily reflect any theoretical, order of potential, possible, romantic interest.

• A philosophical, introvert also needs to practice social skills with various people...

Regardless...

I had to correct an intelligent, thoughtful, long-time friend yesterday, that called me and suggested that I listened to the mainstream media too much in regards to the pandemic and now the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

I actually do not watch much mainstream news (media). In fact, if my star tenant did not live here (temporarily), I would not even have cable. I would pay for very few individual networks, like I presently pay for DAZN from London, for UEFA football.

I receive through my friends and social networks, many alternate/alternative sources of news, and many alternate/alternative views on world events.

For me, although I certainly am involved in the political process enough to have written the Prime Minister, Premier, British Columbia, Liberals and the Federal Conservatives over the years; my main focus is the ministry and academic work the Lord has given me to do.

As well, also for biblical and spiritual reasons (1 Corinthians 7, 2 Corinthians 6), I need to continue to improve and be more social.

No apologies, that is my agenda from the Lord, I reason.
