Monday Bullets: Do not try this home remedy

The Sun
The Sun April 19, 25 2019

 Bummer...

Be aware of questionable and risky home remedies.

 Especially anything a** related.

Be wise and humble and seek professional medical assistance, when needed. Do not make an a** of yourself.

Drink lots of water (Perrier) and digest many vegetables and some fruit (when available), daily. Works for 'some people'.

Thank you, Arne, for the story.

Facebook: Thank you, Gina.
To be clear, I am for reasonable, governed, immigration, politically and philosophically.

However, I have some non-exhaustive theories on why there is so much (presumed by my friend and myself) local road rage...

The federal government is adding thousands of new residents yearly.

The roads and highway system is not keeping up, by size and scope, with the increased traffic.

There is not in existence a 24/7 rail system or related, that can transport persons across the Lower Mainland and Metro Vancouver. (Sky Train is very good but too limited in size, scope and function; and a faster rail or rail related system would be better).

The provincial government with local police forces and the RCMP is aggressively cracking down on speeding, forcing many drivers, such as myself, to slow down even more than previously.

An adequate, comprehensive biking/cycling infrastructure does not exist in the Lower Mainland and Metro Vancouver; most people need to drive when there is any significant distance to travel.

A key difference between Canada and America in regard to Christianity in the political realm

Above the Fraser River, yesterday
The Globe and Mail: Pierre Trudeau's secret soul: MICHAEL VALPY PUBLISHED MAY 19, 2003 UPDATED APRIL 18, 2018

I came across this article on my mobile phone, yesterday...

Here were other academics assessing the shaping of Mr. Trudeau's thoughts by Catholic scholars Lord Acton, Cardinal John Henry Newman and the French Catholic philosopher Gabriel Marcel and his notions of Christian personalism emphasizing the value and dignity of each individual, the importance of dialogue and the notion of human solidarity.

Cited

In all their years together, added Mr. MacEachen, he had never had a conversation with Mr. Trudeau about religion and God. Indeed, as University of Montreal theologian Solange Lefebvre remarked, to be a Christian in this country -- which more than 75 per cent of Canadians still nominally claim to be -- is to be "discreet."

to be a Christian in this country -- which more than 75 per cent of Canadians still nominally claim to be -- is to be "discreet."

A key difference between the Canada and the United States of America in regard to Christianity in the political realm, is that in Canada, Christianity will tend to be handled with more discretion. Less publicly, than in America.

I do not work within politics, and obviously on my websites, as I am quite public, direct, yet respectful, my approach would not be considered 'discreet'. But I think the quote in regards to former Prime Minister Trudeau, summarizes Christianity in the Canadian political realm, well.

Cited

The contrast to contemporary U.S. public life is stark. George W. Bush, as governor of Texas, declared a statewide Jesus Day; Al Gore, his Democratic Party opponent in the presidential election, stated that he makes important decisions by asking himself: "WWJD?" -- What would Jesus do? John Ashcroft, the U.S. Attorney-General, told a university graduating class: "We have no king [in the U.S.]but Jesus."

Cited

Which made me remember a conversation I once had with Mr. Trudeau. I quoted something that I said was from the Christian New Testament's Epistle to the Corinthians. Mr. Trudeau corrected me, saying it was from the Epistle to the Romans. I can't remember the quote, although I can remember we were eating spaghetti -- but until that moment, I had no idea he thought about such things.

In the comprehension of meaning and coherence, a society approaches the sacred and the word, "God." The things about Pierre Trudeau that touched Canadians most deeply were things bound to his spirituality -- his affinity with Nature, for example, and the ideas he took from Christian personalism . . . the dignity of the individual, the will to human solidarity. These matters of Mr. Trudeau's soul bound him to what we know are Canadians' deep mythological attachments to the beauty of their land, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, collective equity, fairness, justice.

I offer no opinion on former Prime Minister Trudeau's, Christianity and Roman Catholicism.

Bad gas---something stinks

Thanks to Mr. Mike Robertson, more good material.

And as well according to our Prime Minister our national carbon tax is to punish polluters. I have seen and heard this on his election campaign.

So, living in the 'outer most north eastern darkness with the tall trees and plant growing operations' of the Metro Vancouver, where many people from Vancouver proper, never travel to, what is my reasonable way to travel and not pollute?

Give a hoot, don't pollute.

I am green enough, I will take a greener option, when reasonable. I recycle...

I walk in Maple Ridge, most of the time.

I carried my groceries home from downtown yesterday; just like in my days in Greater Manchester. This included two boxes of Perrier cans. Green cans. European water.

It is in my mind, with more and more traffic, for an inexperienced cyclist such a myself, too dangerous to cycle everywhere, and certainly, it would be too far, too slow and too sweaty.

Metropolitan Vancouver is not sprawling with bike lanes connecting cities, etcetera.

(That is on the governments)

Maple Ridge is not connected to a 24/7 rail system or any like system that can speedily take me from the Fraser Valley to the Pacific Ocean at any time.

(That is on the governments)

Carpooling is not a reasonable option as employment is too spread out. Besides that still pollutes.

A problem is that western governments, oil companies and vehicle manufactures have not made electric vehicles a reasonable, affordable option for most persons.

And yet our Prime Minister and many Premiers wish to punish drivers trying to get to work and related and support the economy.

A carbon tax takes advantage of residents and citizens as do the high fuel prices.

This serves as political correctness and political expediency.

Senators 4 @ Canucks 6 in Abbotsford of all places

NHL.com: Viewed my first NHL game since 2007 with Saint Zomba on the evening of the 23rd. This was in Abbotsford, of all places, where I attended Bible School.

Exhibition game.

European football has been my viewing focus since the late 1990's.

The Abbotsford Centre opened in 2009 and this was my first visit to this fine facility. This was also my first live view of the Vancouver Canucks outside of Vancouver proper, and my first live view of the Ottawa Senators. It had been on my agenda for years to see the Senators live. I appreciate God's divine providence is making this happen.

The inside, stadium area was in my mind, and according to many others I spoke to, first-rate and professional. An excellent place to see a hockey game, and I have heard also an excellent place to view a lacrosse game and as well, concerts. It was suggested to me by two people that Abbotsford Centre was like a scaled-down version of Rogers Arena in Vancouver, home of the Canucks.

On the negative, there is not sufficient tables for eating food. The one men's washroom I attended, amazingly had stalls only!  I was told by another patron that was the only men's washroom like that, however. There was a very large cue and frustrated patrons. There was also complaints of how long food and drink service took.

I would gladly see another event at the Abbotsford Centre...

On the way out, I had to temporarily slow down my walk to let the Canucks, General Manager, Jim Benning leave out a side door with the assistance of security opening the door.

Jesus feeding of the five thousand?

Daily Mail September 18 2019

By Jack Elsom For Mailonline

A 1,500-year-old mosaic depicting Jesus's feeding of the five thousand has been unearthed during an excavation of an ancient city near the Sea of Galilee.

Cited

The discovery of the so-called Burnt Church in Hippos, northern Israel, has enthralled archaeologists who have spent the summer combing it for historical evidence.

A fire destroyed the fifth-century church in 700AD but the mosaic-paved floor has been remarkably preserved throughout the centuries by a layer of ash.

Cited

The mosaic purports to capture one of the miracles referred to in the New Testament where Jesus used just five loaves and two fish to feed 5,000 people gathered on the banks of the water.

Cited

A team from the University of Haifa found the Burnt Church in 2005, but only began the dig this summer. Head archaeologist Dr Michael Eisenburg said: 'There can certainly be different explanations to the descriptions of loaves and fish in the mosaic, but you cannot ignore the similarity to the description in the New Testament. 'For example, from the fact that the New Testament has a description of five loaves in a basket or the two fish depicted in the apse, as we find in the mosaic.' He added that the generally accepted location of the miracle performed by Christ may have to be reconsidered in light of the new evidence.

Cited

'In addition, the mosaic at the Church of Multiplication has a depiction of two fish and a basket with only four loaves, while in all places in the New Testament which tell of the miracle, there are five loaves of bread, as found in the mosaic in Hippos. '

In addition, the mosaic at the burnt church has a depiction of 12 baskets, and the New Testament also describes the disciples who, at the end of the miracle, were left with 12 baskets of bread and fish. 'There is no doubt that the local community was well familiar with the two miracles of Feeding the Multitude and perhaps knew their estimated locations better than us.'

The Jeff, thank you.

A well-known British philosopher of religion in Manchester, once told me (paraphrased) that there was more and more archaeological evidence that disproved the Bible.

He indicated that there was also (paraphrased) no good modern archaeological evidence that supported biblical manuscripts.

I have my doubts he was right on either point...

There is often an academic connection between ancient manuscript evidence and ancient archaeology....

All because of the apostrophe key ,

I purchase my computers from London Drugs. I took my London Drugs, Certified Data laptop to a store technician, yesterday, because the apostrophe , key no longer worked, or only worked some of the time. I was not sure if this type of laptop could be used with a wireless keyboard, but it can. The technician told me that I have taken very good care of the laptop keyboard. I have cleaned it often with an alcohol based cleaner and this is the first keyboard that I have not partially erased keys with my fingerprints.

I just noticed that the apostrophe , key is working again on the laptop. The technician agreed that my laptop could still last for years; the wireless keyboard is staying.

This is an option for at least some laptop users...

In the Swedish (with English subtitles) version of Wallander, Season 2, Episode 3: "Kuriren" (2009), the lead drug dealer, Dragomir Mrsic as Jovan, states (paraphrased as no quotes available online) within a renovated church that only weak people go to church, and that a person can make himself 'god' by the becoming the most powerful person to others.

By the end of the episode Jovan crashes his motorcycle on the front lawn of the church while attempting to escape a 'polis' drug raid. He may have been startled by the wandering elderly mother of one of the officers, that had left her care home and had gone for a walk; this time to church in the evening. Perhaps she had a form of dementia.

Interesting short lecture on government debt

Video published on Oct 16, 2017

Gold and Silver

Prof. Antony Davies explains: Myth 1 is that the government owes “only” $20 trillion. (In reality, it’s much more.) But luckily, Myth 10 is that there’s no way to fix this problem…

The video is in regard to the United States federal government.

For example, the Professor opines (paraphrased):

'Unfunded obligations' is promised funds that the federal government does not have and will not have available to pay. The Professor suggests the overall federal government debt is actually approximately 150 trillion.

US government (s) debt obligations, federal, separate government agencies, state and local governments is approximately 165 trillion.

When the federal government prints too much money, it creates inflation.

Printing too much money erodes the value of savings. Quote: 'Inflation is a tax on savings.'

The Professor claims that with taxation and the government paying people back, only the top 40% of income earners on average are net payers of federal tax.

The federal government is bankrupt, already. The debt could not even be serviced at a 2.5 % interest rate. The federal annual income is slightly too low to even service the debt.

Borrowing from the Federal Reserve, creates inflation.

Spending needs to be actually cut. The yearly budget must be balanced. The professor seems to suggest that federal government surpluses in funds for 50 to 100 years could make the debt 'not matter.'

Wild Bull and Nidarosdomen Cathedral in Trondheim

Trondheim.com

Preface

I have not seen my good friend, Arne Kaare (Wild Bull) Novik, since 1985 when he moved away from the forests of British Columbia, to his parents homeland and the forests of Norway (Norge).

Arne is a unique fellow with a combination of intellect and satirical humour. He also makes the claim of Christian.

One friend also claims that Wild Bull is 'nuts'. Intellectual and funny, but nuts.

In a Facebook discussion group today, Wild Bull presented photos and information on the striking Nidarosdomen Cathedral in Trondheim.

I graduated from secondary school in 1986 and my parents strongly suggested that I take a trip to Norway and visit Wild Bull. I could save money if he would host me.

But, Arne wrote me back and explained (paraphrased) that his mother thought I was a religious fanatic and therefore would not enjoy my stay.

I should have just gone to the United Kingdom and stayed with my cousins in Scotland. They are not religious and hosted me in 1976 (with family as I was a child), 1995, 1997.

Arne now living alone as an adult male, has invited me over several times since, and I truly hope to visit him there one day.

If the price is right...

King Olav Haraldsson was buried by Nidelven, the river Nid, after he was killed in the battle of Stiklestad in 1030.

Tradition has it that the high Altar of the Cathedral now stands on the exact spot of this burial site. One year and five days after he died the King was declared a saint, and pilgrims began to flock to Nidaros and the King's grave.

The national sanctuary of Norway, built over the grave of St. Olav. Work began in 1070, but the oldest parts still in existence date from the middle of the twelfth century. These are in the Romanesque style, while most of the cathedral is Gothic in style. The building was completed in about 1300, but after being damaged several times by fire, it lay largely in ruins at the time of the Reformation in 1537.

In 1869 extensive restorations were begun, and a century later it was again restored to its original grandeur. The stained glass dates from the early 20th century. The sculptures on the west front are by leading Norwegian artists, and the most recent was erected in 1983. Below the nave is the crypt with headstones from the middle ages.

•The Red Skull: To lead a country in the 21st century, learn how to become a media darling.

(Trudeau needs the Booteau, but will not get it)

(The Conservatives in Canada are promoting Canadians 'getting ahead' in television advertisements by voting Conservative. This will not work in my opinion, because in part, too many special interest groups are not looking to get ahead, but instead, desire government assistance and will be voting Liberal, NDP or Green.)

(I will keep with my prediction that Trudeau II will be our Prime Minister for 20 to 30 years)

MeTV: Wild Bull

'Latest addition' to the MeTV western schedule? Wild Bull Arne 'Killarne' Kaare Novik.

Kool Stetson.

That jacket is looking an awful lot like mine.

I like the 'Red Skull' red colour. Reminds me of a friend's spring/summer dome.

Wild Bull may be seen in about a dozen different MeTV westerns, playing different characters and stating 'much obliged', 'boy', 'varmint', 'I'll kill you dead' and 'die' with a strange Norwegian/Canadian accent.

He may also be viewed in African dating specials.

Teenager 'blind' from living off crisps and chips

By Michelle Roberts Health editor, BBC News online

Eye doctors in Bristol cared for the 17-year-old after his vision had deteriorated to the point of blindness.

Since leaving primary school, the teen had been eating only French fries, Pringles and white bread, as well as an occasional slice of ham or a sausage.

Tests revealed he had severe vitamin deficiencies and malnutrition damage.

Cited

Three years later, he was taken to the Bristol Eye Hospital because of progressive sight loss, Annals of Internal Medicine journal reports

Dr Denize Atan, who treated him at the hospital, said: "His diet was essentially a portion of chips from the local fish and chip shop every day. He also used to snack on crisps - Pringles - and sometimes slices of white bread and occasional slices of ham, and not really any fruit and vegetables.

"He explained this as an aversion to certain textures of food that he really could not tolerate, and so chips and crisps were really the only types of food that he wanted and felt that he could eat." Dr Atan and her colleagues rechecked the young man's vitamin levels and found he was low in B12 as well as some other important vitamins and minerals - copper, selenium and vitamin D.

Blindness Caused by a Junk Food Diet

Background: Popular media have highlighted the risks for poor cardiovascular health, obesity, and cancer associated with junk food, but poor nutrition can also permanently damage the nervous system, particularly vision.

Objective: To alert clinicians of the visual complications of a diet restricted to junk food.

Case Report: A 14-year-old boy presented to his family practitioner with tiredness. He was a “fussy eater” but was otherwise well and took no medications. Tests detected macrocytic anemia and low vitamin B12 level but no antibodies to intrinsic factor or tissue transglutaminase. He was treated with vitamin B12 injections and dietary advice....

Nutritional optic neuropathy - the condition the young man has - is treatable if diagnosed early. Left too long, however, the nerve fibres in the optic nerve die and the damage becomes permanent. Dr Atan said cases like this are thankfully uncommon, but that parents should be aware of the potential harm that can be caused by picky eating, and seek expert help.

Fascinating articles...

Cases such as this are uncommon, as documented. I personally ingest a high fibre diet that includes a significant amount of fruits and vegetables and is almost entirely, non-processed foods.

I would deduce, based on these articles, that persons that have insufficient vitamin intake and limited nutrition is his/her diet would be prone to poor health and ailments, but are not necessarily prone to nutritional optic neuropathy, as it is a rare condition.

Philosophically, for example, there are many street people with significant health issues, including from substance abuse and nutritional deficiencies, but most are not effected by degrees of blindness, I deduce.

(Not from I have viewed walking the streets of Vancouver and Maple Ridge, for example)
