Police across B.C. step up distracted driving enforcement
There are almost 1,000 crashes in B.C. each day — an all-time high — and ICBC says many are caused by distracted or inattentive drivers.
I do not text and drive. I do not play with my mobile phone while driving.
Irony! Follows:
After work the other day, I was leaving Vancouver and entering into the wonderful rush hour, traffic, heading to Highway 1.
But the masses were stopped at a long red light. I noticed a Vancouver police officer walking between the lanes and seemingly speaking aggressively with one of the drivers.
I was thinking (later backed up by a similar RCMP incident someone mentioned to me) that this was a significant risk move made by the Vancouver Police to deal with distracted drivers. The Vancouver police officer then walked back to her patrol car parked at a fast food parking lot.
It was dark, wet (default Autumn, Winter weather here many days) and in my opinion, very reasonably sooner or later in this type of situation, a police officer in going to be clipped by a driver battling rush hour.
The police officer will be distracted by his/her job of finding distracted drivers and be injured in the process.
Irony...
I heard rumours that a certain friend was busted (ticketed) for distracted driving...

At work, I wore a suit because there was an event that evening and I am the Regional Director for British Columbia and the Yukon. One brainy twenty-four year old co-worker told me that I looked like I was there to do her taxes...
At study group, the study leader complained that he had been called a 'hipster' twice that day.
I countered that I have never been called a 'hipster' (Do not have a beard and have no interest in one), but I have often been told that I look like a 'gangster' and a 'Mafioso'. Apparently via my adoption papers, paternally I am Irish, Swedish, Italians (Roman Catholic). Ukrainian (Greek Orthodox) maternally.
