Not always good...

York scan from 1997

I met with a former pastor and pastor of mine, today. We agreed that within reasonable and true Christian theology, we know Christians are not always good (relative not absolute goodness)(examples Romans, Galatians), nor do Christians need to be good to be saved from sins and the penalty for sins.

We are saved by grace through faith for good works, not by good works (Ephesians 1-2). Through regeneration (John 3, Titus 3) those in the Church, in Jesus Christ are transformed, in process to and with a new nature that seeks goodness over evil and sin.

However. as this transformation is a process in sanctification until the resurrection (1 Corinthians 15), regenerated persons are not always good. Further, based on biblical, Reformed theology, person's remain tainted by sin, in body, until the resurrection. Perfect and pure goodness only belongs to...

In an infinite sense: God

In a finite sense: The angelic beings that stayed loyal to God.

In a finite sense: Resurrected, perfect humanity in Jesus Christ. (Future)

Contrary to the theology of some churches and religious movements, the claim one is saved if worthy, and/or worthy according to a church, is false.

One is saved based on the worthiness of God the Son, Jesus Christ and his atoning and resurrection work, imputed and applied to believers.

Don't pay to go to Chucky's concert until he sends that letter for your project!

Another artistic, professional concert featuring Sir Charles Nelson Chuckles. This time with Chuck on both vocals and percussion.

Percussion solo???
Actually, a very good tasting Cola that is neither Coke Cola or Pepsi Cola.

Watch out! New York may ban texting while walking across the street Joseph Spector, Albany Bureau

ALBANY, N.Y. – You probably shouldn't walk across a street and look at your phone at the same time. Now New York might make it illegal.

A bill sponsored by Democrats who control the state Legislature would allow police to issue a ticket between $25 to $50 for a first offense of getting caught texting while walking — unless you can prove it was an emergency.

I suppose a libertarian objection in regard to this type of law, or possible type of law, is that such a law too strongly 'babies' a citizen that should take responsibility for his/her own actions.

On the other side, as my Dad mentioned today, too many people wander around downtown, not paying attention while texting. Sometimes stopping to text while in the middle of the road.

When walking, I pull over to text...(or email)

I do mobile chat (not text or email) and walk and can also chew gum at the same time...(No near accidents)

Is texting while walking a serious public problem???

Notre Dame rooftop swimming pool?

Notre Dame Fire Reconstruction Ideas Include a Rooftop Swimming Pool

Cited

In the wake of the heart-wrenching blaze that destroyed the roof and famed spire at Paris' Notre Dame Cathedral last month, French authorities said it would launch an international competition to design a new spire. One architectural firm says to forget the roof and spire and build a rooftop swimming pool instead.

Stockholm-based Ulf Mejergren Architects (UMA) are proposing a giant, cross-shaped swimming pool that would span the entire roof of the cathedral, creating a "new meditative public space."

"We think that the cathedral looks much better without both the spire and the led-clad roof. Instead we let the bell towers, the flying buttresses and the rose windows do the talking," the firm said in a press release.

This type of design reads as a good idea for Baptist churches...

Maybe even for Mennonites...

And today, a Swedish firm that specializes in whimsical designs has unveiled its bid to place a public swimming pool atop Notre-Dame's roof.

We are proposing a meditative public space; a complementary spatial experience to the building with unmatched views over Paris," says the pitch on the company's website, promising to let the original bell towers and rose windows "do the talking."

Canadian talks American 'magic mushrooms'

Note the comments in regards to America being more, paraphrased, 'drugged out, man' than the rest of Western world. However, I will admit that British Columbia has its share of drugs.

Six-month driving ban for using a mobile phone while behind the wheel

David Beckham has been given a six-month driving ban for using his mobile phone while behind the wheel.

Cited

A court heard he was photographed by a member of the public holding a phone as he drove in "slowly moving" traffic.

Beckham, 44, received six points on his licence to add to the six he already had for previous speeding matters. He was also fined £750, ordered to pay £100 in prosecution costs and a £75 surcharge fee within seven days.

District Judge Catherine Moore said she acknowledged the slow pace of the traffic but told him there was "no excuse" under the law.

Bromley Magistrates' Court heard Beckham was seen "operating a handheld device at knee level" while driving along Great Portland Street in the West End.

A definite red card for Mr. Beckham.

Please, when I am in the United Kingdom, no one phone me while I am driving...

Witchcraft Period

My friend Miss CIA told me tonight that someone from a charismatic church claimed Miss CIA had a period that was witchcraft and satanic...

Edited

Friend

I can't come to the conference this morning, I'm drained.

Her critic

If the devil succeeds in keeping you from going to church and he makes you sick he is going to continue to. Don't believe his lies. Come and receive healing and have a holy spirit encounter. Witchcraft be gone in Jesus name!

Friend

The devil is outnumbered 2 to 1. He's defeated and in Christ he's my footstool. Stop making him seem more powerful than he is. Satan this, Satan that. He's yesterday's news! Also, this is biochemistry, I have my period! I'm a woman, it's natural. God designed me this way.

I will add that God is infinite and eternal, while demonic beings are finite and created. Finite entities only have power that God has willed, directly or indirectly. (The book of Job, for example).

Bullet Friday: May 3-Cut the fat

Facebook; I like the art...

• As I deduced, the New York Islanders cannot score enough. Defence only takes you so far...

• Thank you to my newish good friend Ricardo for letting me know that 'the football', as in UEFA, will be off Canadian television next season. I am signed up with DAZN online, which is reasonably priced

• Adapt or be left behind (that relates to UEFA football as well).

• Sorry, MLS is largely a bore (Dad agrees).

• Now to attempt to cut the fat off my Shaw Cable package...

• DAZN works while with both my Toshiba and Panasonic televisions.

• Dad agrees with me that at 25 teams to 7 (United States to Canada), the National Hockey League wants the Stanley Cup to be won by America yearly. Combine that with that fact that Toronto and Montreal want territorial monopolies and Canada is therefore missing some larger clubs (not including small Quebec City) that could help the Canadian cause.

• With my latest template upgrade, Facebook no longer works well pageview wise with Blogger when I post; however, both websites are up in pageviews.

Nuclear weapons and mutual survival

Certainly, the West should maintain sovereign democracies, but the Tsar Bomb and like nuclear weapons are examples why pragmatically for mutual survival, Russia is a nuclear threat and peace should be sought.

Same with China, although they have a smaller nuclear arsenal than Russia.

This new political ad makes me laugh

This funny advertisement has hit the air in Canada during this year's pretty lame, Stanley Cup Playoffs

Job's friends and critics

I would not claim to be a specific scholar in regard to the book of Job, but I did reference this text in my scholarly British (MPhil-PhD theses) research on theodicy, the problem of evil the nature of God and humanity, free will/determinism.

This satire has merit as the biblical critics of Job showed similar theological and philosophical naivety as would many (but not all) first-year bible school and/or seminary students.

A key is to have a reasonable, correct, biblical understanding of God's nature and human nature, and the Reformed tradition is useful here...

On a personal note, for me, it is usually the acquaintances and/or casual friends that provide the worst advice as they know me less well than good friends.
