Russ Murray Arne, I remember you told me about the film, The Party (1968), during the Pitt Meadows Secondary School, era, before you moved back to Norway. You also told me about the first two Pink Panther films from the 1960's; I had viewed only the films from the 1970s as a child and teenager. I did not see The Party, which is a classic, until the 1990s, or it might have even been the 2000s, when I returned from the United Kingdom.

Disappointingly, there were not many Peter Sellers films featured when I lived in Manchester and attended Manchester-Wales, Universities. There was too much 'He's a lady' Tom Jones in the media. I remember one or more 'live' shows with Tom Jones in an adult jumper, with women of various ages 'swaying'. I think 'sex bomb' was big hit at that time. Tom Jones is very famous in England-Wales. I even met someone in the Christian Union whose Mother had dated Tom Jones and called him a four letter word, as a result. The man can sing, though.

United Kingdom television at the time, although generally more entertaining than North American television, featured, very weird European erotic-horror films, with vampires after 10 pm, some nights.

I now have a DVD copy of The Party, and it is one of the very few films I watch every year. When we meet in the future, we should watch it. Interesting how you joked about the film so much, but you had only seen and heard clips. But media was more difficult to come by in the mid 1980s. The film was made in 1968.

I think for many of us, the film features the type of party we would like to go to and laugh at. But not in our house. It is like someone else's classic 'train-wreck'. Laugh at it and then quickly leave, after thanking the host.

By biblical principles, I would not be involved in a wild party. But this film is not 'R' rated at all. It is light and classically amusing.

Galatians 5:19-23 New Living Translation (NLT)

19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

New Living Translation (NLT)

Funny, I can remember you visiting me at the house in 1985 and the New York Islanders lost game five of their playoff series to the Philadelphia Flyers, ending the series. Just looked it up, it was Sunday, April 28, 1985. I had a brand new Telefunken, German television. Excellent picture for the era.
