Short comments on a finite God
An aerial view of Dublin, Ireland. I have done the bus tour of the city and I would highly recommend it. It seemed like a very clean and historical city. I wish they had an English Premier League club there in order to have another reason to visit.
I am very busy with PhD revisions, but I appreciate the comments for a break.
Short comments on a finite God, based on my current twenty plus PhD pages of reviewing mainly non-traditional views on the omnipotence of God.
An infinite eternal God[1] can be understood as the first cause not needing a cause.[2] A finite deity, although admittedly logically possible, requires further explanation.[3] If the being is not revealed through Scriptural revelation,[4] it is a God of primarily philosophical speculation and requires further elaboration on the part of one in regard to, for instance, why humanity should believe in and follow this type of deity, assuming that there is not a greater, infinite, eternal first cause that would necessarily[5] exist behind that being.
My conclusion is that a finite God is very unlikely to exist.
[1] The essence of God himself is eternal, he is before time, above time and after time. Barth (1932-1968: 67). God is ‘infinite spirit’ and eternal. Shedd (1874-1890)(1980: 152). God is eternal and without beginning or end. Bavinck (1918)(2006: 148 Volume 2). God is eternal and infinite, he is eternal now, ‘the permanent now’ and eternity results from his infinity. Weber (1955)(1981: 455). God has eternal existence as a ‘just and wise person.’ Frame (2002: 388).
[2] God’s essence is eternal and necessary (logically must exist) , and the finite universe is temporal and contingent (not necessary). Shedd (1874-1890)(1980: 191). God as a necessary being is therefore the cause of contingent creation. Frame reasons God is the creator and the Lord of the beginning of history. This occurs within his eternal plans. Frame (2002: 389). Within this view God is the implied first cause that exists necessarily prior to everything else. Pojman (1996: 596).
[3] Hypothetically, humanity and the universe could have been created by a finite God that was created by another cause.
[4] In contrast to God in the Hebrew Bible, God in the New Testament and Allah in the Qur'an.
[5] Shedd (1874-1890)(1980: 191). Pojman (1996: 596).
Two members of our local USL soccer club have a little fight on the field.
Please go to 8 minute mark.

'Vancouver Whitecaps FC announce that the club have fined and suspended defender Wesley Charles and striker Charles Gbeke, as a result of their unsportsmanlike behaviour during the Whitecaps home match versus Miami FC Blues last Friday evening.
On Monday, both Charles and Gbeke received monetary fines for an undisclosed amount from the club before each player was handed a one-match suspension from the United Soccer Leagues, as well as an additional one-match suspension from the club on Tuesday.'
I see a Whitecaps game every year or so generally. Sometimes fights break out in non-combat sports but it is usually between players on opposing teams. However, when two players on the same team fight it is humourous but also not a good public demonstration of teamwork.

Trooper confronts paramedic.
Perhaps the trooper was overaggresive and should have let the initial incident pass, but if I am riding in the back of the ambulance, I do not get out and confront a state trooper.
The paramedic is a big intimidating guy.
Superrabbit
Super hungry (Thanks Mom)
I saw this on Granville Island in a shop.

Russ,
ReplyDeleteSeems compactly logical.
Larry E.
Larry, thank you.
ReplyDeleteThat is good to read in light of my PhD revisions.
I love the old school Bugs bunny cartoons.
ReplyDeleteWell sadly a friend of mine died today, He had cancer, he needed a blood transfusion, then had a stroke, then needed a ventilator to breath on. Sadly he went brain dead and his wife said pull it, so they pulled it a 7pm today. He was a believer so he's not bummin, but you guys can pray for his wife, they were only married for a few days over a year. Rick b
Rick, that is sad.
ReplyDeleteI pray now for the peace of the Lord for the family.
In Jesus' name. Amen.
oh my goodness that is a big boy with a big Hamburger!
ReplyDeleteSeveral years ago I went into a local restaurant and tried to split such a burger with a friend. There was just too much beef and not enough quality toppings and I could not finish my portion.
ReplyDeleteI am a fairly small eater.
Cheers, Tamela.:)
As few goals as are scored in soccer, I'm surprised at how well choreographed that celebration was. I would have thought that one of those guys would have been accidently laid out cold!
ReplyDeleteBugs is the best. I can't even watch the lame cartoons Mrs. Moogly's younger brother used to watch while we were dating...and that was over 20 years ago! I can just imagine how bad the one's are today.
GGM
Good points, GGM. Cheers. I look forward to seeing Zidane and Eto in July.
ReplyDeleteThis just in...too bad I have never had a BMO account.

ReplyDeleteI remember that -- the "Fat Albert" burger. It was served in a Maple Ridge restaurant that was originally a Binos a long long time ago, then changed ownership possibly a dozen times, always ending in failure.
Yes, the food was not fantastic when I went to the various restaurants at that location. Not that I went to them all.
ReplyDeleteCheers, Chuckles.
FOFLOL at that "Super hungry" photo! Now THAT is one big BURGER! If Burger King would make it's Whopper as big as that, I would visit Burger King more often! (And the leftovers could provide meals for the next 3 days for an entire family!)
ReplyDeleteTrue, Jeff.
ReplyDeleteI am a big guy, but I would get sick if I attempted to east most of that burger.
Cheers.
Even though that Bugs Bunny cartoon is from the 1940's, the artwork is better than the artwork seen in many of today's cartoons; the jokes are far, FAR more sophisticated than the immature nonsense in most cartoons today; and the script is far, far superior to the trite stupidity of most cartoons today.
ReplyDeleteThe animated cartoons put out by Marvel and DC might be one exception to that, I think.

ReplyDeleteJeff, I have thought the very same, especially when I watched the cartoons my nieces and nephews would typically view. Plus, I find some modern adult cartoons have an overly negative sarcastic view of life. It is like there is no sense of altruism in some modern work.
I love the newest photo of the fast food. Hey if you think happiness is hot, I am working on a new spice that will be about twice to three times at hot. rick b
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rick.
ReplyDeleteI am willing to sample it.
There are some exceptions in movies I think...
ReplyDeleteThe Incredibles was to me a throwback to the quality cartoons of my childhood.
Pixar has done a number of quality films and shorts, notably the Toy Story series. I haven't seen "Up" yet, but plan to.
As far as TV shows, however, I am not really in the loop re: kid-directed shows.
Well, Chuck, Star Trek was worth seeing. It was a good night out with Bobby and Chuckles.
ReplyDeleterickb
ReplyDeleteWill this one come with a Warning label? Woooeee!
Russ' Mom
It will be hot stuff.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Chucky that a number of movies by Walt Disney (i.e., "The Lion King"), Dreamworks Animation (i.e., "The Prince of Egypt," "Kung Fu Panda," etc.) and Pixar (acquired by Disney in 2006) would be exceptions to what I said earlier. And yes, I would include "The Incredibles" and "Toy Story" as exceptions as well.
ReplyDeleteJapanimation films (anime) might possibly be considered by some to be exceptions as well, though the subject matter of those is often much more adult-oriented, gory, apocalyptic, and sensual.
One thing that really surprised me when it was first released to video (in December 1993) was the 3D animation, "Veggie Tales" (created by Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki, developed by Big Idea). When I first saw it on video at a Christian bookstore, I was pleasantly shocked. Usually, Christian animation, talent and technology is far behind secular talent and technology (maybe by 20 or 30 years), but "Veggie Tales," when it first came to video (long before it became a TV series) was on the cutting edge of technology. Sadly, when the show aired on NBC network television in September 2006, VeggieTales episodes were edited to remove most references to God. Notable was the removal of the program's signature sign-off message: "Remember kids, God made you special and he loves you very much." Creator Phil Vischer expressed discontent with the edits, stating that he was not informed that religious content would be removed from the series, and he would have refused to sign a contract if he had known of this beforehand.
I cannot mention the name of my spice yet, since I need to get labels made and art work down, this way no one can steal the name, or it would be harder.
ReplyDeleteBut the Labels will be all black with Blood red writing, and a friend of mine said, with a name like the one I want no one will buy it, I dont agree. Rick b
Ps. Let just say the name kind of goes along with happiness but in the extreme opposite.
Thanks for the detailed reply, Jeff.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rick.
ReplyDeleteWell, I will await the new spice...'Dead man walking' perhaps?
Russ;)
Hi Russ,
ReplyDeleteI found the Con-Fed Cup to be quite entertaining but as so many other exciting teams were not there it was lacking somewhat. However the US made it interesting and the elite class of Brazil was a beauty to watch. I am happy that the Brazilians came out in the second half passionate about winning and didn’t succumb to falling down all the time like they had been fouled. Bring on the Cup next June!!!!!
By the way we have a new blog you may be interested in:

Thanks, L.V.
ReplyDeleteIn my blog archives I also have winners listed from the FIFA World Cup, UEFA European Cup and UEFA Champions League.
The United States is a good team that on any given day can beat any team (like several teams), but is not likely to ever win a World Cup.
Too many top American athletes are in other sports.
I will check out the blog.
Rick - have you tried

Expert: Asphyxia likely killed actor Carradine
ReplyDeleteBy ANTHONY McCARTNEY AP Entertainment Writer The Associated Press
Thursday, July 2, 2009 6:40 PM EDT
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The private pathologist who conducted a second autopsy on David Carradine's body said Friday that Thai authorities have determined the actor died of asphyxia and so far, he agrees.
"Thus far, the information we have gathered is consistent with that," Dr. Michael Baden said. But he noted that is waiting for key details from Thai authorities.
Those include results from toxicology tests, an analysis of items found in Carradine's room, security surveillance footage and a log of room entries from the hotel's key card system.
The famed New York pathologist said he cannot yet determine whether Carradine's death was accidental or a homicide.
Baden performed a second autopsy on Carradine's body after it was returned to the United States. The actor was buried on June 13 in Los Angeles.
His immediate conclusion was that the "Kill Bill" actor didn't die of suicide.
Thai police initially said they suspected Carradine's death was a suicide, but later conceded it could have been accidental. Their description — that the actor's body was found nude, with ropes around his neck, wrist and genitals — fueled speculation that he was killed while engaging in a dangerous sex practice called autoerotic asphyxiation.
Baden said autoerotic asphyxiation remains a possible cause of death.
Some of Carradine's friends have said they suspect foul play in his death. His brothers, Keith and Robert, have urged patience until all information is available and promised to release the results of Baden's inquiry.
Baden said he is waiting to talk to a pathologist in Thailand about some of the missing details he needs.
"When we've spoken to them, they've been very cooperative," he said. He noted they have already received crime scene photographs.
Baden has said the autopsy would be only part of his analysis.
Speculation about the actor's death has swirled since a chambermaid at the luxury Swissotel Nai Lert Park Hotel in Bangkok discovered his body hanging in the closet of his room June 4. A Thai newspaper published a graphic photo of the death scene that police have said appears to be a leaked forensics image.
I wonder how much longer Tom Cruise will last in this
ReplyDeleteevil cult?
Another totally off-topic comment...
ReplyDeleteI was just showing this clip from Napoleon Dynamite as a good example of the awkwardness of involvement in "interpretive dance".
Thank you, Jeff.
ReplyDeleteWhat is more weird, the Michael stuff or the David Carradine material?
Absolute power further corrupts the sinful.
ReplyDeleteCultic leaders often have too much power.
Certain members of religious groups place too much spiritual dependence on a certain leader.
This can lead to the abuse of devotees.
Napoleon Dynamite=The Duke of Dorkdom.
Chucky, I have tried the chips, and Honestly I do not find them to be hot. I can chow down a bag like they were plain. I made a new hotter spice, I call it Sorrow, I should have pictures and info on it today 6/3/09 on my food blog. Rick b
ReplyDeletePictures of Sorrow are now posted.
ReplyDeleteIf you have any Happiness left over, sprinkle it over plain potato chips and shake, the eat, Chips just like Blair. rick b
May your 'Sorrow' increase.
ReplyDeleteThe US does not have the depth to make its way through a tournament like the World Cup much like the Canucks don’t have the depth to go deep in the Stanley Cup Playoffs… Brazil was beautiful to watch in the second half of the final.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteBrazil should be the favourite for the World Cup.
Thanks and enjoy the sunshine.
Wow, great article.Really thank you! Really Great.
ReplyDeleteThank you, and have a very good week.
ReplyDeleteRuss:)
