Most Valuable Canadian Sports Franchises

Vancouver-Google Images

An EST classmate, football fan and Chelsea supporter from Côte d’Ivoire asked me what the most valuable sports teams in Canada were. I have not viewed a list, but this is my deduced compilation from Forbes.com and the logos are from Google Images.

Toronto Maple Leafs/1 Billion/November 2012. Admittedly better of late.

No Stanley Cup since 1967 and worth 1 Billion dollars USD; amazing. I reason the billion dollar empire is a reason the Leafs apparently wish to hold on to their Southern Ontario monopoly. Likely no teams for Hamilton or Markham in the near future, but based on reading I think that if Hamilton and Markham would have franchises both would be in the top half of this list.
A logo based on the era when the Leaf were champions.
I like these better, but would the team still win zip and make millions? At this point they do seem serious about winning.

Montreal Canadiens/575 Million/November 2012. Classic logo from the greatest hockey team in the world, which has recently been in decline. No Stanley Cup since 1993.
Perhaps one logo is enough for the Canadiens?

Toronto Blue Jays/568 M/March 2012. All promise and media hype and no recent deliver. Do not order a pizza from the Blue Jays...

Toronto Raptors/405 M/2013?. The nagging question is why bother? Is that Dino from the Flintstones? Or it is Barney. Lame logo and team at this point. Even still, impressive to be number four in Canada. (Edited: Yes, they eventually did well, 2019).
Owned by MLSE, aka the Toronto Maple Leafs basketball club.

Vancouver Canucks/342 M/November 2012. Much better logo with this colour scheme change. The darker version with the dark red and dark blue did not match up to my fine blog colour selections...
No Stanley Cup since entering the League in 1970, but heck they have made more radical logo and uniform changes than likely anyone in the League. Is there a trophy for that at least?
Modern version of original logo.
I will be honest; this logo and the one below reminds me of bars of soap.
Irish Spring?

Calgary Flames/245 M/November 2012. I admit the black looks good, not as good as the red and white versions though, in my opinion. It also looks like a burnt out flame. Sort of like the franchise on the ice...
Should be the main logo, classic from the Stanley Cup win.
My favourite.

Edmonton Oilers/225 M/November 2012. Classic logo, now primary logo again from when Oilers were not Spoilers...
Unneeded update copy of original with one too many rings, sort of like some rappers.

Ottawa Senator/220 M/November 2012. I have heard and read this logo compared to that of Trojan Condoms. But I only have use for the Senators logo...
Based on the original Senators.
Winnipeg Jets/200 M/November 2012- Classic modern logo of the new Jets and this version looks like it is from a jersey, perhaps.
Reminds me of cereal box hockey when I was a kid. One had to blow a paper puck into the goal with a straw. Last logo before original Jets moved to Phoenix.
Decent logo from the early World Hockey Association day and National Hockey League.  I saw Bobby Hull play for the Jets with this logo in the WHA. Balding blonde sniper in cool dark blue uniform. He kind of reminded me of a classic neighbourhood Dad.
Not as good as the original version, but used as alternate. Potential cereal box material..

  2. Yesterday I did the St. John's ambulance first aid course. Only had two wrong on final exam. Only a one day course.

I think as a professional student I can opine on this with credibility.

Like with the WHMIS test last week, I do not like these types of one day crash courses. WHMIS was not covered before the test very well at all. Much of the test was guessing, which I hate. Today, to make matters worse the instructor was a drill sergeant with an accent. He never yelled at me but at one point asked if I understood English, to which I replied that I did but did not understand him. He laughed. He did know his work.

Yes I am not intimated by Profs. anymore...

    Been there seen the stuff.

Anyway the course and all aspects are pass/fail with no other grade but based on two test results I would be at 4.0 or 4.3 from the two course work Christian institutions I went to and I reason I did better on the main BST exam with the results Friday.

I am this time very sure this shall be my last post-secondary course work ever. Theses work is far more a demonstration of proficiency and one actually learns facts better my revising again and again than memorizing for exams.

I should state that I just had a look at the Douglas College grading scale and almost identical to TWU. My grade if I had one other than P/F would be the same as at TWU.

    Would be 4.3.

    Still, had enough.:)

Found out today I passed the EST course through the Justice Institute of BC and Douglas College. Had over 90% on the final exam, and although this is just P/F, it would be A+ and 4.33 GPA based on the Douglas grading scale. A much more generous scale than I had when at CBC and TWU with their differing scales, although the TWU one is nearly identical to Douglas now.

I probably finished in the top 5 or less of the class and one person had already done the course before in another province, and another person was a recent A student @ BCIT. For being somewhat rusty from course work, in a totally new field, having not done any since 1999, my grades were reasonable.

Now to use it along with my more recent theses research and investigation skills to find work.

  4. It's necessary to be clear.

Two priests died at the same time and met Saint Peter at the Pearly Gates.

St. Peter said, "I'd like to get you guys in now, but our computer's down. You will have to go back to Earth for about a week, but you can't go back as priests. What'll it be?"

The first priest says, "I've always wanted to be an an eagle, soaring above the Rocky Mountains ."

"So be it," says St. Peter, and off flies the first priest.

The second priest mulls this over for a moment and asks, "Will any of this week 'count' St. Peter?" " No I told you the computer's down, There's no way we can keep track of what you are doing."

In that case" says the second priest, I've always wanted to be a stud."

"So be it" says St. Peter, and the second priest disappears.

A week goes by, the computer is fixed, and the Lord tells St. Peter to recall the two priests.
"Will you have any trouble locating them? he asks.

"The first one should be easy," says St. Peter, "He's somewhere over the Rockies, flying with the eagles. But the second one could prove to be more difficult."

    Why asks the Lord

"He's on a snow tire, somewhere in Saskatchewan "

  24. Paddy, had long heard the stories of an amazing family tradition.

It seems that his father, grandfather and great-grandfather had

all been able to walk on water on their 18th birthday.

On that special day, they'd each walked across the lake to the pub on the far side

    for their first legal drink.

So when Paddy's, 18th birthday came 'round, he and his pal Mick,

took a boat out to the middle of the lake, Paddy stepped out of the boat and nearly drowned!

Mick just barely managed to pull him to safety.

Furious and confused, Paddy, went to see his grandmother.

'Grandma,' he asked: "It's my 18th birthday, so why can't I walk 'cross the lake like

my father, his father and his father before him?"

Granny looked deeply into Paddy's, troubled brown eyes and said:,

"Because your father, your grandfather and your great grandfather were all born in

December, when the lake is frozen and you were born in August, ya dip stick!.

  29. Speaking of walking on water...

    Walter Martin

From History of Chenango County, N.Y.:
Joe Smith, the founder of Mormonism, operated quite extensively in this town [Afton, N.Y.] and vicinity during the early years of his career as a prophet. The reputation of the family was very bad and Joe was considered the worst of the whole. Somewhere about 1828 or 1829 Smith made his appearance in Afton and attended school in District No. 9. Here his supernatural powers manifested themselves by telling fortunes or "foretelling futurity." This was done by placing a stone in his hat and then looking into it drawn over his face so as to exclude the light. He first organized a society at the house of Joe Knight, on the south side of the river, near the Lobdell House, in Broome County. Excavations were made in various places for treasures, and rocks containing iron pyrites were drilled for gold. Previous to digging in any place a sheep was killed and the blood sprinkled upon the spot. Lot 62 was the seat of one of these mining operations.
To convince the unbelievers that he did possess supernatural powers he announced that he would walk upon the water.
The performance was to take place in the evening, and to the astonishment of unbelievers, he did walk upon the water where it was known to be several feet deep, only sinking a few inches below the surface.
This proving a success, a second trial was announced which bid fair to be as successful as the first, but when he had proceeded some distance into the river he suddenly went down, greatly to the disgust of himself and proselytes, but to the great amusement of the unbelievers.
It appeared on examination that planks were laid in the river a few inches below the surface, and some wicked boys had removed a plank which caused the prophet to go down like any other mortal.
After pretending to heal the sick, cast out devils, etc., he gained quite a number of followers, but at length came to grief by being prosecuted as an impostor. He was tried before Joseph P. Chamberlain, a Justice of the Peace. Two pettifoggers, by the name of John S. Reed and James Davidson, volunteered to defend him. Three witnesses were examined on the occasion, all of whom testified that they had seen him cast out devils. They saw ‘a devil as large as a woodchuck leave the man and run across the floor'; one of them saw a devil leave the man and ‘run off like a yellow dog.' These witnesses were Mr. Knight and son, and Mr. Stowell, all of whom subsequently went west with Smith.[9]
