Let The Spirit Lead?

The window screen is still out on the quite slanted roof and maintenance has not yet recovered. Another view: today.

I viewed this clip on Facebook today in a shorter version. Here is an extended version from You Tube. I reason that this preacher needs a helmet.

Two of my Facebook friends mentioned the possibility of demon possession and one compared the preacher's movements to that of a witch doctor. I have no strong opinion in regard to a possible demonic nature and influence or not, but I do believe that the preacher's actions lack professionalism.

Is he preaching a Biblical, gospel message?

Whether he is or not, he lacks professionalism.

Within a Christian Church context

1 Corinthians 12-14 comes to mind.

From the New American Standard Version, tongues and prophecy are being discussed in the context of conduct in the Church.

1 Corinthians 14:39-40 New American Standard Bible (NASB) 39 Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues. 40 But all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner.

Orderly conduct applies not only to prophesy and tongues, supernatural gifts noted within the New Testament and New Testament era, but the concept would certainly apply to preaching and all things that take place with the Church.

Does this preacher, that is perhaps a registered Reverend, perhaps an overseer, appear to be acting in a orderly manner?

I think not.

Even as perhaps an unordained minister, is he acting in a orderly manner?

I think not.

Therefore the Scripture is not being followed. The spirit of the Scripture is not being followed.

Further, from 1 Timothy 3: 2 an overseer must be temperate (moderate) and respectable. Even if this preacher is not technically an overseer it can be reasoned the person speaking should be temperate and respectable.

It would make no sense to have a temperate, respectable overseer preach regularly by Biblical standards and then have wild, unbalanced, ordained or not preachers speak.

Arguments stating that one should let the Holy Spirit lead and therefore the Holy Spirit can perhaps lead one preaching to this kind of outrageous behaviour are hyper-charismatic and countered by the New Testament text and theological common sense.

  2. I am not sure what you mean by respect. I respect, personally, people's right to religion, even if I disagree with views. And the right to intellectual critique of religion.

I suppose the actions of the preacher would be controversial.

Different strokes are allowed in a democracy, however, the Bible on some points, in context is not democratic.

I was just back from a leaders' meeting. If I choose certain non-Biblical lifestyles freely within Canadian democracy I cannot be a church leader by Biblical standards.

    Fair enough.

    Blessings and thanks, Cloudia.

  6. @ megachurch last night a newer married friend from India and mutual friend of Deaaan and Banajela stated if I heard it correctly, I look like I am not someone's friend, or I am not their friend and I think he might have stated, and yet I am looking for a wife. He stated it with a smirk. Not that I look like I am looking for a wife, he would mean I look like a I don't give a rip socially.

To be honest, I sort of like that...

I think this has been pointed out by a couple of females as well online/offline.;)

I am working on being more social and sensitive...

Bless you all my lovely readers...

  7. I have seen videos of the 'Kundalini spirit' which look similar.

I have seen videos of demon possession in Africa that look similar, and also a couple videos of Muslim imams which look similar, which I would surmise is demon possession (just like their prophet, Muhammad, who was demon-possessed on several occasions, even according to the Qur'an).

This is something which has seeped into the Evangelical Church, just like New Age influences have also seeped in.

As for me, I had a job which was, in some ways, maybe the best job I ever had, but I got laid off over a week ago. After having to live at a friend's house for a while because my electricity (and water) were turned off and my car insurance was canceled (because I was not able to pay any bills), I am not looking forward to the possibility of going through hardships again. I had just set up a payment plan whereby I figured I would be able to keep my house after all, but now it looks like I will no longer be able to afford that (unless I find a decent-paying job immediately). I also dropped my classes; I need to focus on surviving. Also, another 4-5 years of classes would build up my loan debt to a point where I would be in debt for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, that means that the federal debt I have built up over the past year is now due, and being unemployed makes it impossible to pay. So, all I can do is turn to the Lord for help.

  20. A Story from an Irish Sunday School Teacher.

I was testing children in my Dublin Sunday school class to see if they understood the concept of getting to heaven.

'I asked them, ' If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale and gave all my money to the church, would that get me into heaven?'

    'NO!' the children answered.

'If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the garden, and kept
everything tidy, would that get me into heaven?'

    Again, the answer was 'NO!'

'If I gave sweets to all the children, and loved my husband, would that get me into heaven?'

    Again, they all answered 'NO!'

I was just bursting with pride for them. I continued, 'Then how can I get into heaven?'

A little boy shouted out: 'YUV GOTTA BE BLOOMIN' DEAD.'

It's a curious race, the Irish.

  22. Husband's Message (by cellphone):

Honey, I was involved in a car accident. Paula brought me to the Hospital.

They have been making tests and taking X-rays.

The blow to my head has been very severe, fortunately it seems that it did not cause any serious injury.

But I have three broken ribs, a compound fracture in the left leg, and they may have to amputate the right foot.
