Strange Religious Imagery In Contrast To The Gospel

Loannina Village Lake from trekearth

Prelude

These are the abstract webcam light sparring videos which were posted as a late edition to my Dr. Russell Norman Murray blog latest post and so I repost here. Chucky is hit it the back of the head lightly with a bat in video two. My ice tea glass appearing as a blue object, due to the intentional abstract nature of the videos, is almost shattered by the bat in video four. Weapons used are a Swiss Army Knife retracted, an aluminum baseball bat, and a stick for striking and as spear. I realize the area is limited as this does limit kicks but actually a fair amount of lower to mid-range kicks are used and 'Bruce Lee' type high kicks are difficult to land in real fighting situations because thug persons will tend to crowd a victim on the street, and a victim may be attacked by more than one person in a street event. Also very few persons can actually kick very high and very fast like Bruce Lee and for myself decent high kicks would be a secondary back-up potential finish move and not a primary move. With my build other options are better primary options but I have practiced high kicks, just in case.

Strange Religious Imagery In Contrast To The Gospel

Examining strange and bizarre religious imagery as in the images below I am reminded that Biblical Christianity has sacraments and rituals such as Baptism and Communion, Eucharist, The Lord's Supper. Browning states that 'sacramentum is from the Latin and means 'oath'. Browning (1997: 329).  I agree with a Reformed, Evangelical position that works including from any religious practices do not add to one's salvation in Christ. Erickson opines that justification by faith in the Book of James is discussing the concept that true and genuine Christian faith and belief will produce good works. Erickson (1994: 1014). It is not contradicting Pauline concepts in Romans 1-6, Galatians and Ephesians 1-2 that a Christian is justified and saved by grace through faith. This should lead to good works. I have however, discussed on my blogs the Biblical concept that not all Christians are in a full state of repentance in faith and if one dies will be judged accordingly, please see 1 Corinthians 3: 10-15, 2 Corinthians 5: 10,  James 2, 2 Peter 3.

BROWNING, W.R.F. (1997) Dictionary of the Bible, Oxford, Oxford University Press.

ERICKSON, MILLARD (1994) Christian Theology, Grand Rapids, Baker Book House.

In this world and on this Sunday and new week there are other religions that exist that do overemphasize works from a Biblical perspective. These are practices that are not in any way going to add to human salvation.

Here are some photos I found online from the 'Vegetarian Festival' in Thailand.

Once again the inline link does not work with this new interface:

This festival in Thailand is called the Vegetarian Festival. It is celebrated throughout Thailand, but the festivities are at their height in Phuket where about 35% of the population is Chinese. It attracts large crowds because many religious devotees will slash themselves with swords, pierce their cheeks with sharp objects and commit other painful acts.

Do you think anyone 'needles' him about his appearance?  Google Images
Looks like a Marvel or DC supervillian, but nope. Google Images
Not sure if he takes requests. Google Images
Go ahead make my festival! Google Images
Ah, he may find a way to injure others during this fine event. Google Images

  1. Those images are gross. I wonder if they are all real. Appropriate for the Halloween season, I suppose. Definitely not Christian practices.

  2. Agreed, Jeff. I reason as the Vegetarian Festival in Thailand is real, the photos are as well.

The photos are in part a graphic contrast between Biblical Christianity and works religion.

  23. I have written an eBook, please see my publishing on the right side of my blog. The course I took although it had some good points ended up being incomplete and also ended up being a bit of a rip-off. I have also taken a previous copywriting course which was legitimate, but if one wants to be a copywriter typically one gets a BA related. I am now actually being trained in internet marketing for a two career path life. Which was the hope and plan...

  29. I have now lost a lot of respect for Chick tracts.

Yes, they were instrumental in my getting saved, and I will always be
thankful to them for their part in that.

Yes, the other day on Halloween I gave out about 131 Chick tracts
with candy to those who came to my door.

Yes, I will still give out the ones that focus only on the basic salvation message to the lost (but I will not use the Catholic ones or some of the Muslim ones anymore, and I will be more discerning about the ones that
I will use from now on).

I've always thought that their tracts were good, but that the larger comic books were extreme with their attacks on Catholics, and I have always had some doubt
about their conspiracy theory claims about the Catholic Church.

Now, with their claims about Islam, they have just gone too far.

I studied Islam under an ex-Muslim from Pakistan, plus writing blog articles on it and other research, and the claim in Chick tracts about it being started by the Catholic Church are completely bogus and false nonsense.

I just now did some research and found out that those claims were created by Alberto Rivera.

"Rivera also alleged that Muhammad was manipulated by the Catholic Church to create Islam and destroy the Jews and other groups of Christians, and that his first wife, Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, was actually a Catholic nun in an Arabian monastery who was told by a bishop to marry him and sow the seeds of what was to become Islam. Rivera also alleged that the Vatican staged an apparition at Fatima (named after Muhammed's daughter) to cozy up to Muslims. He further claims that it also staged the 1981 assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II using a Muslim as the marksman "to guilt-induce the Muslim world, bringing them still closer to the Catholic faith!"
    Wikipedia article on Alberto Rivera

Alberto Rivera is the same one who made all the conspiracy theory claims about the Catholic Church, and I found out that Cornerstone Magazine, which I used to have a subscription to, and which did some fine investigative reporting (they are the ones who exposed the lies of Mike Warnke, which broke my heart when I found out), investigated the claims of Alberto Rivera about his own life, and found out that his claims were false. Christianity Today magazine also did an expose' on him.

Here is an excerpt from the article by Cornerstone Magazine:

"Is Alberto's story true? No! Our intensive investigation reveals his police record, his investment schemes, his bad check‑writing, his contradictory testimony, his fabricated educational record, and his reported family abuse.

Alberto Rivera, also known as Alberto Romero, has a history of legal entanglements. He is currently Involved in a court action In Southern California, accused of fraud. According to Cesar Ramirez, he gave Alberto over $2,000 to Invest In some property in Huntington Park, California. The property was never purchased. When Mr. Ramirez asked for his money back, Alberto gave him a donation slip for $2,0001 Ramirez has now sued him to recover his money.

In 1965, a warrant for his arrest was issued in Hoboken, New Jersey, for writing bad checks. He also left debts in excess of $3,000.

In October, 1967, Alberto went to work at the Church of God of Prophecy headquarters In Tennessee. Alberto began collecting funds for a college in Tarrassa, Spain. When the Church of God of Prophecy wrote the college to see if he was authorized to collect funds on their behalf, the church received the following reply: the college had given him a letter to collect funds, but only for the month of July. The school later discovered that while he "claimed to be a Catholic priest ... he had never been one." They reported he left debts which he had drawn in the name of the parish of San Lorenzo, and that the Spanish police were seeking him for "authentic swindles and cheats." Finally, they said no funds he raised had ever reached the college."

"Alberto's account of his conversion is contradictory. In 1964 while working for the Christian Reformed Church, he said he was converted from Catholicism in July of 1952. Now he maintains it was in 1967. While speaking at the Faith Baptist Church in Canoga Park, California, Alberto pinpointed his conversion at 3:00 in the morning on March 20, 1967. He says he immediately defected from the Catholic church. However, five months later, in August of 1967, he was still promoting Catholicism and the ecumenical movement in a newspaper interview in his hometown of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. Another discrepancy involves his three month stay in a sanitarium. In Alberto, he says he was placed in a sanitarium in 1965 for exposing the Catholic church. This would put his "conversion" and release from the sanitarium no later than April, 1966. The book Alberto lists his release as September, 1967. Alberto doesn't reveal what happened during those one and a half years. However, in the newspaper interview in Las Palmas (August 1967), he said he had been doing ecumenical work in Tarrassa, Spain, during the previous 6 months (Feb.-Aug. 1967). This is the time he was supposed to be in a sanitarium for exposing Rome's ecumenical plot!"
