1982 Stanley Cup Final

The clip is from the final game of the 1982 Stanley Cup Final. The New York Islanders defeated the Canucks 3-1 in the game and 4-0 in the series. The Islanders were truly one of the best clubs teams in hockey history. I was at the game as a minor and saw the Islanders skate around with the Stanley Cup. Unfortunately the clip only shows the Islander goals, but still it brings back memories to when I was a major hockey fan, something I shall never return to in all likelihood.

Below are two recent articles I have written related to my PhD dissertation:

  2. Hi Russ, that 1982 hockey video does bring back memories for me. As a kid growing up in the 70's I watched tons of hockey games with my Dad and I even remember the first time I saw Wayne Gretzky play in the NHL. The glory days of hockey are long gone in my opinion. But it's still heartwarming for me to think back to my childhood and Hockey Night In Canada...those were bonding days for me and my Dad as he never had a son, only daughters.

  3. Hi WW, and thanks for the note. Hockey can provide a good family experience.

I managed to see the Islander and Oiler championship teams and some other excellent teams and players. I see that you live in Toronto, and I must state that the Leafs have been a major disappointment since expansion. Being that they have at times been the team worth the most money and with the highest revenue, they should have likely won championships over the years since 1967-1968. I realize the Canucks have only been slightly better on the ice, but Vancouver is a smaller market.

I share your basic feelings on the issue of the NHL, I think. Hockey is not as interesting to watch as it should be. I reason that some of the factors are a watered down product, a regular season where there is no championship at stake and no balanced schedule, player salaries that are too high, and clubs in the wrong markets.

    Russ:)
