Ministry Writing, Baby Fighting And The Canucks

Ministry Writing

Discussing ministry writing in a group with a friend and founder of a local ministry, the founder stated I could likely approach in a different forum than my blogs, dialogue, primarily in written form, with unbelievers as in seekers, as opposed to critics.

Writing more to seekers with potential questions and less in the context of academic apologetics, theology and philosophy of religion.

To some extent, this has been an aspect of my approach. One may notice that I do not debate on Facebook and Google+ leaving these for social media use as they are primarily intended, only promoting my blogs on these sites.  I have commented on this previously.

My ministry approach is to debate only when necessary and I do not seek it out.  I also attempt to debate respectfully, seeking the truth over an intellectual win. Therefore, in agreement with this founder that made a very good point,  I could reasonably write materials that are more seeker orientated and less critical and academic. It simply depends on the ministry context.

Baby Fighting

The Father seems very loving and concerned about his baby. The baby, a male I assume (not certain), appears to very much love the Father.

Some positives with the play fighting approach, in my opinion are the father bonding with his baby. The father is toughening up the child in a good way, as in life the use of physical force can be a necessary evil and it is good for a child to have some knowledge of this reality which he/she may face in the future.

As for negatives, personally I would never toss a baby around like the father does. I am not stating he is taking any serious risks here, but I would simply play fight with a son, daughter, nephew, niece or friend, in a more gentle manner. I am more conservative with my approach.

As a toddler I would play fight with family and it would hurt sometimes, but I was never hurt as in being bruised or injured. That was how I play battled with toddlers, more so my nephews, but sometimes nieces; where as with nieces and female children of friends, it is usually more mental battles as in pretending not to love me type of thing.  But then mysteriously they are still hovering around, sitting next to me, in my lap, etc...

I would handle a baby more softly than a toddler, simply because they are more delicate, but I admit I am not a medical expert on babies and toddlers.

The Canucks

Forbes National Hockey League list 2013 from Journal De Quebec

Canadian teams 2013 Forbes/Journal De Quebec

Some surprises with this list, in my humble opinion. The Vancouver Canucks at number 4 and worth 700 million. Up 105% in value.

The Vancouver Canucks are now, if Forbes is correct in their evaluation, worth roughly equal to some of the top clubs in Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association.

With a salary cap there is some forced equality needed for smaller market franchises to survive with larger market franchises, but I reason the ownership, management, fans and casual observers should have even less toleration for lack of championships with Vancouver. The club should become more dominant in the League as they have more financial resources than most.

The Winnipeg Jets in the top twenty at 340 million. Up 70% in value.

I had read and heard the Jets were continuing to increase value since the move from Atlanta in 2011. This is Winnipeg Jets version two as the original franchise has been in Phoenix since 1996, and Phoenix is not doing financially as well. The Ottawa Senators are also version two. Winnipeg is still the smallest club in Canada and in the smallest Canadian market at present.

Interesting now that Colorado, formerly Quebec, is behind all the Canadian teams in this year's ranking.

Would the team be worth more today in Quebec City?

As noted on my sites previously, Quebec City is seeking a franchise as it is roughly the same market size of Winnipeg.

As well the new Rogers-NHL Canada national broadcasting deal for twelve years includes a French language part of the deal.

TVA/The National Post

'Part of the Rogers deal includes a sub-licensing agreement with TVA Sports, which is in turn owned by Quebecor Media. Pierre Karl Péladeau is chief executive of Quebecor, and has been involved in the drive to repatriate the NHL in Quebec City, where a new, NHL-ready facility is already under construction.'

This Forbes news demonstrates the NHL should primarily focus on Canada for new franchises, but because of Canadian corporate protectionism and the League obsession with becoming an American national sport with a large television deal; this will not happen. The philosophical approach of the last fifty years shall continue.

'Okay, today is one of those few days where I’ll be ranting all through. It seems as if nice guys will never be able to really get how attraction works with girls so, I decided to do something for the nice guys, maybe they’ll get it this time around!
Now when I say “nice guys”, I’m actually referring to guys who will always remain ‘a good friend’ to a girl that they’re sexually attracted to. Nice guys who are ‘just one of the girls’. Nice guys that endure hours of listening to a girl’s whining and bitching about what assholes guys are, while he keeps doing all he can to prove the girl wrong.'

I have read several secular relationship coaches and Christian ones. I reason the 'nice guy' is a terrible position to be in, and one I reject. Instead from my Christian worldview, I aim to be a good guy and an excellent potential partner. I am nice where it is good to be nice. I am not a pushover and will not chase someone. I have standards and although I pray that the Lord will adapt me where needed, I stay with them.

  19. The very end of that Baby Fighting video is funny.

I don't really like to debate or argue either. A few weeks ago or so, an Orthodox Jewish guy in Israel posted a very angry comment on my Facebook page in response to an evangelism-type message I posted. He was very offended. I replied back a few times, but since that post moves down the page as new things are posted on my page, it gets harder and harder to find the post, because you have to keep scrolling and scrolling for a long time. I could have bookmarked it, and now I kind of wish I had, so that I could find the post again and continue the conversation, even though he was extremely angry. He denied the Trinity and denied that Jesus is the Messiah. He accused Christians of worshiping a man, and implied that Christians are polytheists (which Muslims also basically accuse Christians of being). I saw on some Christian site a term that was meant to define the Trinity, which was neither monotheist nor was it polytheist, but I forget what the term was.

  22. A Different Christmas Poem
The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.

The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So slumbered I, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.

Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,

Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.

My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.

Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Trooper, huddled here in the cold.

Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.

"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!

Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.

To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died in Europe on a day in December,"
    Then he sighed,

"That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.

  23. Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red and the white ... A Canadian flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother.
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."

"So go back inside," he said, "harbour no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.

To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

    PLEASE,

Would you do me the kind favour of sending this to as many people as you can?

Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our
Canadian service men and women for our being able to celebrate

I support NATO and Canada in general terms as in maintaining law and order (Romans 13) and preserving democracy and freedoms, including freedom of thought, speech and religion.

However, this is not a blanket endorsement of all military actions which still requires analysis.

But I am thankful for NATO and Canadian troops.

  28. TBN founder Paul Crouch died Sat. at 79 years of age.

"Fast and Furious 7" actor Paul Walker also died on Nov. 30th. According to a statement posted to the actor's Facebook fan page, Walker died "in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization REACH OUT Worldwide." According to the Facebook page for the organization, "REACH OUT Worldwide is a quick-response, mobile first aid organization aiding in rescue and recovery after major natural disasters around the globe."

Here are some quotes by him:

"I’m a Christian now. The things that drove me crazy growing up was how everyone works at fault-finding with different religions. The people I don’t understand are atheists. I go surfing and snow boarding and I’m always around nature. I look at everything and think, ‘Who couldn’t believe there’s a God? Is all this a mistake?’ It just blows me away."

"I still hold myself accountable. I’m not the kind of guy who’s taking advantage of my position. I could be sleeping with a different 18-year-old girl every day if I wanted to. But that’s not my speed."

"Thing is, I went to a born-again Christian high school, was brought up in a traditional Mormon family where these ideas about parenting are of structure and sacrifice. To think outside of that idea of family and parenting that I've grown up with is tough, but also very freeing."

One article said, "Walker was brought up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or Mormons, in a large family of five children. Some of the more visible aspects of that faith [read: cult] include abstaining from sex before marriage and abstaining from drugs and alcohol." [Mormons also help in disaster relief causes, which I know because when I was a volunteer for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, my "Little," whose family was Mormon, brought food to their Mormon church to help out with a hurricane disaster. So it's no surprise that he was involved in that.] "He had converted to Christianity from Mormonism, and was known for a heart to help others."

“Paul wasn’t someone who would just write a check and lend his name to an organization; he was the heart and soul of Reach Out WorldWide. Paul was the first one in and the last one out, he led by example and his hard work and dedication inspired everyone who had the privilege of working with him. He led one of the first teams into the hardest hit areas of Haiti and traveled to Chili to bring water, medical aid and hope after the Earthquake and Tsunami. He ran a chainsaw clearing debris and helping people get back into their homes during the hottest days after the tornadoes in Alabama… Some people play a hero, Paul was a hero. Paul was an honorable, hardworking, dedicated, respectful man with a humble spirit who shared his blessings with those who needed it most. It was an honor and a privilege to be able to work with, learn and look up to someone who walked the walk.” - JD Dorfman, Reach Out Worldwide

However, I read some of his interviews, and he was cursing in them, which, in my mind, casts doubts on his salvation. I'm not saying a Christian cannot curse and still be saved, but it makes me wonder. But of course, I don't know for sure. Of course, according to one article, "But beyond his on-screen credentials, all available evidence suggests that Walker was, up until the moment he died, a celebrity who genuinely cared about the world around him—someone who used his celebrity for worthy causes."

I know a Hollywood actor that curses and loves the Lord. It is bad habit, frustration, part of the Hollywood culture, etc...

I think many Christians swear at times.

  34. 'The UK's National Director of Health and Wellbeing warns that there is an increasing and potentially catastrophic HIV epidemic in homosexual men in every part of the world.

Speaking at the British HIV Association's Autumn Conference earlier this month, Professor Kevin Fenton said that despite an increasing number of tools to combat HIV infection, the incidence and prevalence of the disease in MSM (men who have sex with men) is increasing rather than decreasing globally.

Dr. Fenton laid the blame for the MSM HIV epidemic squarely on the two most obvious characteristics of homosexual sex: anal intercourse and promiscuity.
In his address, titled "The Resurgent Global HIV Epidemic among MSM," Dr. Fenton said that while homosexual men everywhere have higher rates of HIV than in the general population, contrary to popular opinion MSM in wealthier countries have a vastly higher rate of infection than residents even of poorer countries.

"It is estimated that the HIV rate in MSM is eight times that of the general population in low-income countries, and 23 times the general-population rate in high-income countries," Dr. Fenton said.

"The most reliable prevalence figures suggest that, regionally, Latin America and the Caribbean have especially high rates, but in no country of the world is HIV prevalence lower in MSM than in the population as a whole. Even in South Africa, the country with more people living with HIV than any other, HIV is twice as common in MSM as it is in other people."

Dr. Fenton noted with some bewilderment that statistics show that, in the developed world, the US has the highest rate of new infections, the UK has highest overall number of infected men, and several central European countries have the highest rate of increase in numbers of infected men.

Dr. Fenton laid the blame for the MSM HIV epidemic squarely on the two most obvious characteristics of homosexual sex: anal intercourse and promiscuity.

"HIV was especially high partly for biological reasons," Fenton explained. "It is now estimated that anal sex is 18 times better at transmitting HIV than vaginal sex. The chance of HIV being caught from having receptive anal sex once with a partner with a detectable HIV viral load is about 1.4% or one in 71 encounters; but because people have sex together more than once, the per-partner likelihood of catching HIV from a sero-different partner is, in gay men, about 40%."

"Another factor in gay men’s higher HIV prevalence," Fenton said, "is that because gay men have more partners and higher changeover rates, their sexual networks are more closely connected: 25% of gay men diagnosed with HIV were members of a cluster that had HIV viruses that were genetically identical, suggesting rapid transmission within the network, compared with 5% of heterosexual people."

  35. 'The above is a graphic from a CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) online slide presentation, “HIV Surveillance in Adolescents and Young Adults” [1] – breaking down the incidence of HIV among young men ages 13-24. In 2011, an astonishing 94.9 percent of HIV diagnoses among teenage boys (13-19-years-old) were linked to homosexual (“male-to-male”) sex. And 94.1 percent of the cases among young men ages 20-24 (more analysis below) were from “gay” sex.

With the incidence of HIV among men so closely tied to homosexual sex, shouldn’t the government and all concerned and compassionate adults be urging young men and teenaged boys not to engage in or experiment with dangerous homosexual behavior? And yet, the CDC and other pro-”gay” institutions (including many schools public and private) are doing exactly the opposite, as they focus instead on affirming “gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender” youth as a “sexual minority.”'

  36. The secular world has a vastly different worldview than Biblical Christian, and in my mind, largely does not want to deal with many of the worldview issues and related morality. Not to state by any means that the Church does not have its flaws, as all Christians in this realm are flawed as is all of humanity (Romans 1-6).

Some keys in ministry appear to be maintaining Biblical standards, loving others in the Church and outside and within the West maintaining religious rights.

    Thanks, Jeff
