Philosophical & Theological Reflections On Satirical Images: Christmas 2013

Canada-workingventuresdotca

Engrish.com

Reddit.com

The ninth in this decently successful series which has 25, 000+ pageviews, mind you 20, 000+ with the first post.

Series is 1-6 and then Bible and Sport. I will probably continue with it as long as the significant pageviews continue.

It is easier to write than many essay posts, in the sense that I can comment on images, but difficult with finding good concepts and in the past, more so, it could be technically difficult to write with images and text and Blogger html conflicts. To Blogger's credit, there have been some improvements with the interface.

The series tends to be more fun to write than most of my articles (selfish mode).

Scary how many of my images connected to this blog show up on Google Images while searching for new material. I hope I do not copy from myself...

Facebook-An image posted in my News courtesy of The Jeff. I wonder on a possible radical Christian fundamentalist theological take on this imagery. Perhaps 'Satan Clause' in a passed out gluttony represents the over-commercialization of Christmas. As opposed to just a funny and well-done Christmas image.

Well, I could guess what is in the coffee and it is not lemonade... And who the heck writes this kind of material?!
Facebook-Reminds me of when I had a few of these from Disneyland when I was barely in school. They actually seems to me looked pretty good. A problem was that once the viewer broke, one was stuck with useless slides.
Hotel Suicidal?
Apparently not a follower of the New Testament Great Commandment...
Now admittedly I am still learning cooking skills, but this even raises red flags with me...
But adults are fair game? Is this from the Manson family?
I agree, sour milk and moldy bread will give one those thoughts...
Albert Mohler.com-The site discusses how legal same-sex marriage could lead to judicial battles for legalized polygamy. I think a reasonable philosophical point, although presently polygamy does not have the political power that the homosexual lobby does. In light of Scripture such as Genesis 1-3 (Adam and Eve), Deuteronomy 17: 17 (King), 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1 (Overseer) the Biblical mandate is one wife, one husband or singleness (1 Corinthians 7). However, I had a quite conservative Missions professor at Trinity Western University opine that strictly speaking polygamy is not sinful. He stated that in Africa and India, India his main experience, many Christian men had multiple wives. He did not think it right for  these men to divorce the second wife on, especially in light of the families. I see the point that divorce is a greater evil than polygamy. I also see the cultural context of the faith and the need to adapt. But in my situation, for example, the Biblical commandments would apply to me. It could be stated I am neither a King or a Overseer, but I would be obligated to follow the Biblical standards of Genesis and 1 Corinthians 7 which would be one wife. Satirically, and ONLY satirically, do not get any strange twisted ideas  and accusations here; does this give me a potential legal out and Biblical out if I wish to marry one young lady from North America and one from Europe, for example? I mean there is a shortage of  good Christian men with PhDs out there and more educated women than men according to some studies.;) I was going to do the post  just on this topic. Probably a good idea I changed my mind...

'What do you think about the late Frank Zappa's criticism of your work as simply "operating a guitar like a machine gun?" Do you think that Zappa was right when he said that the whole trend in the music business was that faster is better?''

I think he was just jealous! I toured with Frank, and while I've always enjoyed his recordings, on tour he would take very, very long guitar solos, and he just didn't have what it takes to play long guitar solos. That said, he has every right to his opinions, and in earlier days, I'm sure he had some validity in his criticisms of my playing.'

Zappa is overrated musically and as a guitar player, IMHO. I had a live album with his long solos. John has it right.

Mr. Signorile needs to do some research on what Scripture actually teaches in context before opining in public. Not just stating what certain people think and state because they assume such and such. The approach he used seemed over-defensive at the expense of reason. I would not have dealt with the issue as Mr. Robertson did as I would have used less potentially offensive language, but he was attempting to take a Biblical stand.

  14. God Loves Blondes

A blonde finds herself in serious trouble.

Her business has gone bust and she's in dire

financial straits. She's desperate so she decides

    to ask God for help.

She begins to pray... "God, please help me. I've

lost my business and if I don't get some money,

I'm going to lose my house as well. Please let me

    win the lottery."

Lottery night comes, and somebody else wins.

She again prays... "God, please let me win the

lottery! I've lost my business, my house and I'm

going to lose my car as well."

Lottery night comes and she still has no luck.

Once again, she prays... "My God, why have you

forsaken me? I've lost my business, my house,

and my car. My children are starving.

I don't often ask You for help, and I've always

been a good servant to You.

PLEASE let me win the lottery just this one time

so I can get my life back in order."

Suddenly there is a blinding flash of light as the

heavens open. The blonde is overwhelmed by

    the Voice of God, Himself....

"Sweetheart, work with Me on this.... Buy a ticket."

  15. The Jeff's worst nightmare...

Human beings evolved from gay apes over trillions of years...

From some of my class reading yesterday:

---Where did language come from? What was the first human communication?---

In my class reading, it says:

"Let's begin with what is usually considered the "first born child" of language: speech. The sounds that we make to communicate are generally thought to have preceded any graphic mark that was used to communicate. Of course, this notion cannot be proven. Yet we know of other creatures that use sounds to communicate even though they do not use graphics. Also, we observe that children learn how to speak quite naturally—just as they learn to walk or eat.

However, the ability to read and write must be taught. From these observations, we may conclude that speech is the earlier, more natural way of expressing language.

So, who spoke the first word? What was said? What circumstances occurred that finally allowed this momentous event to happen? No one will ever know for certain. What we do know is that it takes two people for communication to happen. Initially, someone made a sound that had personal significance, and someone else heard it and understood it to mean the same thing. Imagine the impact of the discovery that we could share our thoughts with another person by making sounds!

We can only imagine the frenzied pace of making different sounds and assigning an agreed upon meaning to them once this technique was discovered. Undoubtedly, as the number of words grew and the number of people using this "technology" increased, confusion and disagreements must have occurred over the particular sounds and meanings assigned. Yet somehow, speech began organizing itself—for indeed primitive humans did not consciously organize it—and the spoken word survived."

"Many researchers believe that the discovery of speech may have occurred and been lost many times over before it took hold. Undoubtedly, the technology of speech fostered the growth of intelligence in early human beings. Those with less intelligence, who were unable to understand and embrace this new technology, could not survive and compete with those who did."

To me, assuming that were true, that would have been such a confusing mass of chaos, misunderstanding, frustration, anger (which would very likely often lead to fighting because of misinterpreted messages), and just a complete and total mess, for thousands or even millions of years, assuming Darwinian Evolution were true.

But according to the Bible, the first words that were spoken (at least, that are recorded), were God's, when He said, "Let there be light." (Genesis 1:3) He may have been saying that to the angels (assuming the angels had already been created at that point), or, since He is a Triune God and exists as a Trinity in relationship with Himself because He is 3 "Persons" (the best word we can come up with to understand it), He may possibly have been talking between Persons, for example, as He said in Gen. 1:26, "Let *us* make man in *our* image..." (He did not make man in the image of angels; neither did angels help out in the creation of man; therefore, by "us," He could not have meant the angels, as Jehovah's Witnesses wrongly think---since they believe the "Trinity" is an idea from the devil).

And the first words that God spoke to man (Adam) that are recorded in Genesis were, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die." (Genesis 2:16-17) (It's interesting to note that these were the very first recorded words from God to man, yet man disobeyed them, the very first words he heard from God, as far as we know.)

And the first human words that we have recorded in Genesis, though we are not told the specific words, were by Adam: "Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name."

The first specific words by man, recorded in Genesis, were also by Adam: "The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”

So apparently, it was God Himself who taught man a specific language, or else just immediately gave man the knowledge and ability of a certain language when He created him. To me, that makes a lot more sense than a bunch of so-called "pre-historic" creatures making noises to try to communicate, and often failing. That would be like a deaf or mute person (who did not know sign language and did not know how to read lips and did not know how to write) trying to communicate with someone....it would be extremely frustrating and aggravating, and would likely lead to explosions of anger or temper tantrums, like I saw in a TV drama of Helen Keller before she learned how to communicate with people.

  17. Just found one of my wind chimes, the one closest to the front door, knocked down. The string that holds it was snapped in half, and it's not very old at all, so I'm guessing it was probably not the wind---most likely that same group of black teens that has caused some of the trouble in the past. Also, there has not been any strong winds lately that I know of. As well, there are bike tire tracks in my driveway. Just one more thing (this time a small thing, thankfully) to add to the growing list of attempted break-ins, thefts, and vandalism. Foreclosure will be welcome, if I can get a job and save up enough money to move in time. But God continues to protect me and meet my needs. I think that in His time, He will bring me a job. Meanwhile, I continue to apply for jobs, sometimes 7-8 a day, plus keeping busy with online classes. Yesterday a friend hired me for a day to tear up linoleum from his floor, which was helpful and good exercise. Plus a client hired me to design a couple items for him.

  18. Thanks, Jeff.

All the best both of us, careers, ministry and life.

I reason to be a Christian, in Christ, is to take the Scripture seriously as actual communication from God. Not myth.
