$100 Million Dollar Pizza?

Little Caesars
USA Today May 26

'Muslim man sues Little Caesars, claiming 'halal' label on pizza was a lie' '

Ann Zaniewski, Detroit Free Press'

'DEARBORN, Mich. — A Muslim man is suing Little Caesars for $100 million after he says he was served and then accidentally ate pepperoni made with pork, a food prohibited by Islamic law.

The complaint says Mohamad Bazzi ordered halal pizza twice from the Dearborn, Mich., shop. The boxes were labeled "halal," but the pies inside were topped with regular pepperoni.'

'Majed Moughni, Bazzi's attorney, said he rushed to file the lawsuit Thursday, the eve of Ramadan, so no other Muslims would accidentally eat pork from the pizza shop during the holiday.'

'He added that for a Muslim, consuming pork is "one of the worst sins you can do."'

'Jill Proctor, a spokeswoman for Little Caesars said in a statement that the company believes the claim "is without merit."'

'The issue of non-halal food labeled as such has landed in court before. In 2011, McDonald's was sued over claims that the fast-food restaurant was selling non-halal chicken it claimed was halal.'

'The case was settled for $700,000. However, some Muslims, including a group led by Moughni, said the settlement money should have gone to the Muslims affected, not to organizations that were based in Detroit or not affiliated with Islam.'
---

I viewed this story on Tucker Carlson Tonight, on Fox News.

Theologically, according to the New Testament, rejecting Jesus Christ as God/Man, and his atoning and resurrection work through the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is the worst sin one can commit.

Food choices, although important for health, are not primary in regard to knowing about God, or knowing God personally.

John 14:5-7

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

5 Thomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” 6 Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. 7 If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”

The members of the trinity are distinct persons and yet of one essence and nature. God the Son, taking upon himself, human nature.
---

This type of supposed food order error, when it does actually occur, in my philosophical and non-legal opinion, is worth nowhere near a six plus figure legal compensation. A free pizza per week, for the rest of one's natural life, would be a very generous compensation, perhaps? This would be a common sense approach, respecting religious freedom and supporting the corporate ability to do reasonable business.

Pepperoni, mushroom, pineapple, and extra cheese is my personal favourite. From Pizza Hut, of the major chains. The small family owned businesses, many times have excellent pizza.

Canada v The World

I am surprised the map is not more dominated by red. What kind of churches are these? Mosques and temples included? Mcleans.ca source for the first four images.
Would you rather visit Calgary or London, Edmonton or Dublin, Saskatoon or Berlin? Thought so...
Wow, three Territories and Saskatchewan and Manitoba, that is depressing. At least here in British Columbia, we hit the road with a major ailment. It sounds more kool...
I am glad we have our priorities here in Canada. I mean the United States of America does not produce enough quality players to stock their 24 clubs, so it is absolutely essential Canada help America win the Stanley Cup every year. 'It is good for the game.' We need to boost US television rating for the playoffs. It bothers me very deeply if some guy in Alabama, eating hot dogs, dining in front of the tube, does not watch the Stanley Cup playoffs. I mean in a similar way, people in England become very worried if Bundesliga television ratings are low in Germany. No, we are not philosophically Americanized here in Canada...
Funnyjunk.com: The Alaska entry is not funny and is disturbing. New Mexico is the only normal state? With all the alien conspiracies? The Christian Iraq idea is somewhat funny.
A bizarre map from a Denver Broncos.com, board: This is definitely not the National Hockey League proposed franchise location map. Canada could not defend Hawaii; Hawaii made a better choice joining the United States of America.
Joyreactor.com: Upon research, one will find Europe is larger in total area than Canada or the United States. I think the type of misconception from this map often arises when people just consider Western Europe. Eastern Europe, including the Ukraine and western Turkey and the historical European parts of Russia need to be included.

Grace through faith for good works

From this morning's sermon:

Matthew 20:1-16

The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard

The pastor (paraphrased) opined that spiritual rewards for work in Jesus Christ within the culminated, everlasting Kingdom of God will be the same for each person.

This is controversial theology and will be debated by scholars. The pastor stated (paraphrased) that one in ministry should not expect extra credit for works done in Jesus Christ for the gospel.
---

Those in Christ are saved by grace through faith for good works, in Christ (Ephesians 1-2), therefore, even those good works in Christ are first caused by God. People are merely a secondary cause. A finite and sinful one is this realm, guided by the Holy Spirit. This is again Reformed, compatibilism and theology.

Regardless, of one's good works in Christ, relative to another in Christ, the Christian should not be concerned about what someone else receives. One should view any rewards for good works as being the benefits of salvation.

Ephesians 2: New American Standard Version

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and [h]that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.

Short Religious Bio

This week

In light of President Trump's world religious tour of Islam, Judaism and the Roman Catholic Church; this short religious bio is as close as I get...

Obviously, President Trump and I are not in the same league. His Twitter account is much larger and I have a British PhD.

I just heard something on an online sermon.

The first statement is generally, but not always true.

Paraphrased:

One will never regret not stating something questionable and controversial.

One may regret stating something questionable and controversial.

Christian Degrees

Columbia Bible College, Mennonite Brethren, BA

I accepted the teaching where biblical, but rejected Arminian theology in regard to soteriology, free will and determinism.  I found 'Calvinistic', Reformed theology far more reasoned out and biblical.

One professor stated: (Paraphrased)

John Calvin was more brilliant.

But...

Menno Simons was more enlightened.

I found John Calvin more brilliant and more enlightened. I compared both theologies to the Bible. (Typical me, finding another angle)

Six pack fallacy

Venice: trekearth.com

As part my ongoing sleep apnea treatment and overall beautification, I have hired a professional dietitian.

She confirmed what I have thought for years. That being, that the equal amount of calories in/calories out theory for six pack abs is fallacious.

The human body is far more complex.

I will continue with my 'Thanos' looks according to Mr. Rogers (last post). My twelve pack?

By the way, she reasons I might actually exercise too much.

Ottawa Citizen: May 23

There are reports once again today that the Ottawa Senators are not sold out for tonight's Stanley Cup, Semi-Final (Eastern Conference Final) versus the Pittsburgh Penguins.

I agree with many Canadian critics the club would be financially stronger if it remained in Southern Ontario, but not Eastern Southern Ontario. It would be financially more valuable and have a larger fan base in the Greater Toronto Area, as in Toronto (2) or Markham, or west in Kitchener-Waterloo or Hamilton.

But in appears the Senators are going to build a new arena in the Lebreton Flats, which at least puts the club downtown, like every other Canadian club. The distance to the games in Kanata (City of Ottawa) is documented as a problem. Another problem assumed is the fact Ottawa is a government town. I suppose the business sector is small for its population.

As the National Hockey League culture is not favourable for new Canadian clubs, these potentially better markets are not building new NHL style arenas. Other than Quebec City which now owns a white elephant. It does good business, but has no prospects for a club at this point. A new NHL style arena in Canada, without an existing franchise is too much of a financial risk for the present climate. No wise businessman is going to build a 500 million dollar, 18, 000 seat, NHL style arena with no chance of getting a franchise.

Clearly, most often American cities have more corporate business as potential support for hockey clubs than do Canadian cities. The United States has a much higher population than does Canada.

Forbes

For 2016 the Nashville Predators are ranked #26 (26/30) in franchise value. Even Ottawa has a significantly higher value.

Nashville's ranking will go up due to earning a position in the Stanley Cup Finals. I can reason that Nashville can support a club with sell-outs and a decent overall market according to Forbes. I can grant that Nashville is a good, non-traditional hockey market.

There are a few markets in Canada that would be financially more valuable than Nashville. These markets would also grow the game and add new paid fans in the context of tickets, television and merchandise. But this is not the agenda of the National Hockey League and has not been since the 1960s.

I greatly appreciate the United States of America, its culture, its Christian culture, my American friends and readers. I have supported the New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils and Pittsburgh Penguins. I would just like to have a more competitive national balance if I am going to view the National Hockey League in the future. The National Hockey League is gambling that it can lose some Canadian hockey fans by gaining more in the United States of America.

According to Mr. Rogers, I look like Thanos

Marvel image

My good friend and Mr. Rogers type friendly neighbour, Sir Walter Thomas Franklin was visiting a book store Saturday and being 'frugal', took home only free books.

In the evening, Mr. Rogers drove the short, walkable distance to my condominium. Mr. Rogers showed me this image within a free comic/graphic novel from one of his new books.

Note, I always walk to his house.

He stated that this (Thanos image) is what I look like when I am (paraphrased) 'fed up.'

Is this what training with martial arts and martial arts weapons, and lifting dumbbells gets me?

(Paraphrased): 'Golly, your build matches.' He stated.

Mr. Rogers also stated that my front door had a skunk living near it and to warn 'Pope Chuckles' if he was arriving for our visit as well. I replied, that I would do no such thing as a 'Chucky Is Skunked' satire post would be classic.

Mr. Rogers is the same friend that years ago tagged me 'The Kingpin', due to my large muscle amount, without being a six pack male model, pretty boy. or beach bum.

This explains the original URL and title of my first blog/website, before being changed to match my PhD status.

Ironically, Mr. Rogers was a six pack pretty boy that entered into a 'Mr. Maple Ridge Natural Body Builder/Beauty Pageant' on more that one occasion.

Supposedly, no one in the competition did 'roids', but they pranced around, greased up and did some dance numbers.

Apparently, I have graduated from 'The Kingpin' to 'Thanos' due to weight reduction and UPPP and Rhinoplasty sleep apnea surgeries.

A mutual friend of both of ours, in the past has tagged me as 'The Thing'. You get the picture...

Hockey Night, Not In Canada

Thanks to Walter Thomas Franklin for the title

This is a non-exhaustive and speculative sports philosophy entry. I was texting with my good friend, JB, this evening, and we agreed the following:

As Canadian citizens, benefiting from this democratic country, we have a sense of obligation to support Canadian National Hockey League clubs in general.

This does not prohibit me from supporting American clubs, as I have supported the New York Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins and New Jersey Devils over several playoffs.

On the other hand, we deduce based on media and social means, that there are other Canadians, including in Metropolitan Vancouver, that I would call Nuckleheads, named after the Vancouver Canucks and Nucks, that in envy and bitterness, will often or always, cheer against another Canadian team in the playoffs. For example, if the slight underdog, Ottawa Senators win the Stanley Cup  this will leave only the Winnipeg Jets and the Vancouver Canucks without a championship.

Sacrifices Must Be Made?

NBC News

The other day, I heard this common expression on television.

'Sacrifices must be made.'

I am not certain of the context as it was brief and promotional. Very often this statement is made in a political, military, religious and social context.

As in, someone else needs to the die for a cause. The supposed greater good.

My sarcastic and satirical question to a person making this statement would be:

'If you demand a sacrifice, alright, let us start with the person that suggested it.'

Now I realize that the person suggesting a sacrifice may not always be a good person to make the sacrifice; if such a sacrifice is even good. But, I would like the person making such a suggestion to seriously consider his/her ethical and moral position.

In the Hebrew Bible and New Testament, God decided that 'sacrifices must be made', and ultimately sacrificed God the Son, for the sins of the world.

1 John 2:1-2

New International Version (NIV)

2 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

1 John 2

English Standard Version (ESV)

2 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

The White House seems amateurish and some critics seem desperate

President Trump

I am Canadian (British) with two passports, I am a moderate conservative. I have 'no horse' in United States of America politics, and if I was American I would probably vote third party.

Watching CNN and Fox News, the political game in America is far too partisan at present. The White House seems amateurish and some critics seem desperate.

An outsider's perspective.

I was not tempted

@VGH/UBC Eye Clinic While @VGH/UBC Eye Clinic,

I viewed a young Asian lady, holding a small dog, like Paris Hilton. I have no ethical problem with it, but I will opine that one does not want to be near dog hair after some of the procedures done at the Clinic.
---

On the  drive home, some of the TSN 1040 commentators seemed to be complaining about the Ottawa Senators playing the trap. Perhaps bringing back the 'Dead Puck Era'. Calling it the 'Kanata Wall'.

According to Wikipedia, types of defensive traps go back as far as the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1920s-1930s. I will admit that prior to reading this I reasoned it very likely the Leafs used some kind of trap to win 13 Stanley Cups from 1917-1918 to 1966-1967, without many of the discussed 'stars' the Montreal Canadiens had with 14 Stanley Cups (now 24).

Wikipedia

'The trap was innovated by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1920s and 1930s but became the defensive scheme for most coaches during the late 90s early 2000s—known as the "Dead Puck era"—as a direct result of the success seen by the New Jersey Devils under the coaching of Jacques Lemaire, who perfected the trap defense to 3 Stanley cups in 1995, 2000 , and 2003 for the New Jersey Devils.'
---

Lemaire and Larry Robinson of the Devils' coaching staff were trained in the Canadiens system.

The Canadiens used a kind of trap back in the 1976-1979 Stanley Cup run. I can remember away games at the Boston Garden where they would play defensively compared to at home, generate less attempts at offense than the Bruins and still win a low scoring game. The 1993 Stanley Cup champion Canadiens used trap type tactics.

It is a myth that playing the trap  necessarily deletes offense. Check the documentation. The 1995 Devils, perhaps the most infamous trap club were a high scoring team in the playoffs. I can remember how explosive they were on the counter-attack.

Wikipedia

The trap is an intelligent tactic for Ottawa to use as a small market club with a limited budget. It is a good sign when media starts to dislike/hate you for winning!

Dr. Please Stop Smoking!

During the writing of the previous entry, I heard someone aggressively hammering on my door, three times.

I reasoned, after ignoring them, it must be an emergency and therefore, I answered the door. I am wearing shorts. It is warm up here.

At the door, is my friendly Japanese neighbour holding some kind of breathing device. She states that she does not want to offend me but needs to finally ask me after years to...

STOP SMOKING! You are a Dr. right?

I informed my neighbour that I have sleep apnea and would never smoke. I opined that there is likely a Cigarillo and marijuana smoker downstairs, below us. I informed her that owners have the right to smoke in their condominiums.

Jesus groupies?

From Move 2: Jesus was not a hippie

The subject of our dearly, departed pets within the future, biblical, New Earth from Revelation, in particular, arose today on Facebook. The friend is a 'newish' theological friend. FYI: Not Saint Chuckles, Bobby Buff, Mr. Matt or The Jeff.

Paraphrased and edited comments:

Dr. Russ

The concept makes sense. People tend to read the figurative literal of Revelation with no creativity. If read as plain literal, the theological deductions of some would lead to reasoning humanity in Jesus Christ are meant to be everlasting Jesus groupies that only hang out in New Jerusalem, and sing (crappy) worship songs.

Anonymous Reformed:

Lol.

Russ. I'm so going to quote you on that someday.

Yeah, singing 3 chord wonders with awful theology for the rest of eternity.

Dr. Russ

We have this entire planet and universe, art, music, science, etcetera (theology and philosophy of course!). We are to work. We are to love the triune God, our fellow human beings, animals, and pets.

That being stated I reason, there will be those followers of Jesus Christ that want to literally follow Jesus Christ everywhere he goes.

It would be fascinating if he allows it. A continual world tour...

Anonymous Reformed:

Who knows I suppose? That's the beauty of it all to some extent.
---

The Mounce commentary on Revelation provides many helpful insights. Figurative language is definitely used within the book of Revelation, but an actual culminated Kingdom of God is being mysteriously described. Mounce (1990: 368-397).

Save the planet, eat insects?

Italy: Facebook-I have no interest having insects as my photo lead.

May 5 2017 Newscom.au

'WANT to help save the planet? Start eating bugs.

Researchers at the University of Edinburgh and Scotland’s Rural College found that replacing half the world’s meat consumption with consumption crickets and mealworms would cut farmlands by one-third. This would help reduce greenhouse gases and stave off climate change.

Professor Dominic Moran, of Scotland’s Rural College as well as the University of York, wrote in a press release, “The environmental challenges facing the global agricultural industry are increasing,” adding that introducing these “alternative foods ... into our diets [could] alleviate some of this pressure.”'

As treatment for sleep apnea, I am primarily on a fruit and vegetable diet from here on, but I have no interest in the John The Baptist diet.

Microsoft Deleted My Webcam Software With Windows 10 Update

Deviant art: Wile E, Coyote and Ralph Wolf

Thurrott August 19 2016

'Microsoft Has Broken Millions Of Webcams With Windows 10 Anniversary Update'

'On August 2nd, Microsoft released the Anniversary Update for Windows 10 and when the bits arrived on computers around the globe, it brought with it new features and also broke webcams for millions of consumers. If your webcam has stopped functioning since the release of the Anniversary update, you are not alone but the good news is a fix is coming, hopefully in September.'

'[Update] Rafael has figured out a workaround that should hopefully stop the freezing issue; if you are comfortable tweaking the registry, make this change.
---

My software was deleted. It is not simply freezing! As of this publication, neither myself nor two other friends that researched have found any fix for this issue.

My Microsoft LifeCam HD-3000 worked well, and I presented several audio/video entries on You Tube/Blogger with material produced. Last week with a required Windows 10 update, all my Microsoft webcam software was erased.

Therefore, in a sense, I am one of the people that had his/her webcam broken by Microsoft. Yes, the physical webcam still works fine, but there is no quality Microsoft software in support. The default Microsoft 'Camera' software freezes. Any other 'free' software loaded on my hard drive has been poor quality that also freezes up and associated spyware has been loaded onto my hard drive. Now thankfully, destroyed.

Deeaan, Mr. Rogers, Trump

BBC

Deeaann

Cited from Facebook

'100+ days in office and its definitely been a mixed bag from Trump. Still, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with his action against Syria. A month on and the world did not descend into WW III. In fact, that region has probably edged closer to peace since. Irony abounds - this was perhaps Obama's greatest foreign policy failure. Obama's dithering encouraged a despotic, ruthless ruler locally and strengthened emperor Putin globally. This one action now, while not a solution in itself, seems to have stopped chemical attacks in their tracks. The reality is often peace doesn't happen unless war costs both sides. Added irony is that this is precisely the type of policy Hillary would have pursued and what Trump warned against doing in the past. Not to say that i'm a fan of Trump's wealth care, protectionism, anti-immigration etc. But I'm happy to accept this silver lining at least, even if it may have been partially intended to deflect attention from domestic woes. Perhaps there's more consistency here than many Trump supporters appreciate. Its the failure to stand up to Assad's murderous rule that has caused the waves of refugees that Trump is seeking to stem. After 6 years of this madness it was refreshing to see Assad finally pay a price.'

Mr. Rogers states

Yer fi'ed Deeaaan! More seriously, I watch CNN. Fox and other independent online news. I wish I had enough time to intellectually parse all the real issues but I have to deal with all the partisan political bull**** and I am a busy man....Blessings to you and family. On the way to tutor your neighbour...signed Mr. Rogers.

A satirical, secular take on weird cults

This You Tube presentation is from December 5, 2015. As disclaimer, I do not make any claims about the reliability of the research this source provided. It is satirical and deals with the issue of false religion.

However, the discussion of cults as false religion, highlights the need for historically documented religion.

The Encountering texts states that transition was not perfect, but it was more than reliable enough for us to have little doubt in what the New Testament writers first wrote. (12). There are no grounds for any serious theological doubts. (12). The New Testament is internally consistent. It is near 100% certainty of accuracy. (12). This would not allow for any reasonable conspiracy theory of a corruption in original theology. Revisionist theology for modern times, that contradicts biblical theology is not a reasonable approach within a biblical worldview.

In the same way, although older manuscripts, the Hebrew Bible and Old Testament: '...became a cannon, authoritative collection of documents. (8). These writings were accepted as Scripture by Jesus Christ, his Apostles and disciples. (8). The Hebrew Bible as older will also not provide perfect copies of originals, but it still provides accurate historical religious history.

Difficult to tour in the United States of America?

John Mclaughlin

Newsweek May 3 2017

Interview posted today:

Cited

Newsweek: Jeff Perlah

Beginning in November, you’ll be on your farewell U.S. tour. Any plans beyond that?

John Mclaughlin

I’m not gonna stop working in music, but I’ve been touring my entire life. I’ve been on the road since I’m 16. That’s a long time, Jeff. And I have to say, the world has changed, from the way we used to tour in the ’70s, even the ’80s, but then [there was] 9/11 and the new world order, and the invasion of Iraq, and the whole mess that is now the Middle East, the terrorists, the attacks. And to travel as a band around the U.S., the U.S. in particular, is extremely difficult. Maybe I’ll come back, but for the moment, it will be my farewell tour.
---

Interesting opine that touring in the United States is now difficult. I do not have a strong opinion on the issue, but personally would need to see more factual data in support of this idea, for me to not visit and tour America as an academic and/or tourist. I have no experience touring the United States of America, Europe or anywhere as a jazz rock musician. Playing stomach drums, even well, to Mahavishnu Orchestra and Rush, will never see me tour. I therefore plead ignorance to specific difficulties in touring the United States of America as a musical act.

Is this type of view a reaction to some of the policies of President Trump?

I look forward to seeing the related performance, touring Seattle, and me touring Seattle, in December. I met Mr. Mclaughlin after a Remember Shakti performance in Vancouver, 2003, and he was a very kind man.
