Kim Jong Il and martial arts bodyguards

I have worked out in the martial arts for around twenty years with the martial arts bag and some sparring which includes weapons defence, and some judo and grappling, but I have never done anything like in the video. I am not sure how much breaking bricks will help one in a fight, but the ability to take physical punishment and pain is beneficial for bodyguard work I suppose. However, if North Korea ever does use a nuclear weapon against the West, martial arts will not do them much good I would think.

Romans, Chapter 13:1-4 in the New American Standard Bible states that every person should be under subjection to the authorities, which have been given power by God. These authorities have the right to use the sword, or force for the purpose of maintaining the good, which would be law and order. Romans 13 is likely primarily speaking in terms of maintaining internal law and order, but I think that a state or states would have the right to protect citizens from external evils as well. The West has the right to defend itself against North Korea if in the end it is a legitimate military threat, and that would include if it is a legitimate nuclear threat.

  1. Seeing those bodyguards chop through bricks reminds me of a rather peculiar evangelism endeavour, a group known as the Power Team, which I saw once in the past with theKingpin68 & Bobby Buff at the Pacific Coliseum. Bobby thought they were cool.
Here are some highlights of their "ministry":

  2. Not a very memorable evening for me I am afraid, although I did admire their skills.

  3. Firstly, I recently ordered and received a book entitled "Karate's Grappling Methods" by Iain Abernethy which looks helpful. The book teaches some grappling techniques for people mainly trained in Karate. The grappling methods exist within the style, but are not always taught and Abernethy provides these techniques. The author also appears to include some judo types techniques within the book which I appreciate. I have picked up some "soft art" techniques by working out with a friend who is a black belt in aikido, but mainly through copying, pasting, and printing material from judo and grappling websites, and working out with another friend. I like the idea of choke holds and arms locks within either judo or grappling to complement punching and kicking. It is also good to practice defences, from strikes, weapons, holds and locks. I generally prefer the "soft art" defences to the ones I was taught in the "hard art" of karate. The karate defences often seem less safe to attempt.

Secondly, my Mom bought me a Samsung SyncMaster 203b LCD screen for an early Christmas present. My old tube monitor is 10 years old and could stop working at any time. I need a reliable monitor for my PhD work. As a result of using the new monitor, the old colours of this blog and thekingpin68 look too bright for what I want. I therefore have adjusted the html code and changed dark red for both blogs from #710 to #400, and midnight blue of this blog from #191970 to #004. The colours now look on my LCD screen like they did with my old tube monitor. A friend of mine told me that the red now looks brown on his monitor, so I am sorry if the red or blue looks too dark for some of you, but I was not pleased with the colour scheme as it was.

    Cheers

  5. I agree, Rick. There are many good chokes from the front or back, and on the ground. I can choke out Chucky from the back in about ten seconds and he is over 200 pounds, so it is useful.

  8. I love this blog! Seriously, people can be terribly macho in that part of the world.
I see the West as a rational society that can be moved to irrational behavior, and these neo-nuclear threats as frequently irrational sorts who have learned to use the products of our own rationality against us. Interesting dilemma, but I agree with rick b that the BGs would be cannon fodder, come crunch time. But then, these folks aren't rational. Think of all the broken bones they'd save if they would simply adopt and perfect the "killer BO" jacket that evangelist was using. They might abandon the nukes.

  9. Yes, thanks.

North Korea would need some kind of magical BO jacket to defeat the West presently.:)
