Equally Matched & equally scammed

Warning to scammers...do not email me, I have a satire blog:

I am on Christian Cafe for the free days, and recently I have joined a free and supposedly Christian site by the name of Equally Matched.

http://www.equallymatched.com/index.php

I am sceptical about this site as I have already run across three scammers including the one below. I will not post the photos she provided as they may not actually be of the person that sent the email. On Christian Cafe, I often face ageism as many of the women are seemingly more concerned with how old I am than by the fact I have dedicated myself to God and Christ with a life of study. I know I am imperfect in my Christianity, but I ask God for guidance. I reason that a younger, thinner, good looking, financially stable non-Christian, or weak Christian would do better on Christian Cafe than I do, although I do receive some emails, and have been on three dates via the site. But, as my friend Zombie once told me, 'Christian women do not care if you study theology'. Sadly, this is often the case. I realize it is not always the case. Everyone please forgive me for still being relatively sexually inexperienced and wanting to find a young woman that could still possibly have children with me. Shame on me! How stupid of me, I should be willing to go from a man of little experience to instant stepfather of teenagers, should I not!? I should abandon all hope of finding someone who is spiritually, intellectually, and physically attractive to me because I have not been able to find someone suitable with mutual attraction. I should now capitulate and settle for what I can get, right? I know, I know, I should take a chance on a 'scamma', and see if I can convert them.

On Equally Matched most of the women do not seem to mind older men and there are a lot of professional looking photos. Interestingly, there are many women featured claiming to be associated with the Church of Christ. I think at least some of what goes on this site is suspicious.

My reply to the following was...

No thanks.

  1. To the letter, I give a hearty "haha!"

As to your situation, I have to pick and choose what I say because I know these sorts of situations can be tricky. I honestly am not entirely sure what you were saying, whether or not you are trying the sites for fun or in a serious attempt to find a spouse. I know a couple people who have done the latter successfully. I tried it once for fun, and it didn't work out (I met my wife later on in college).

You say that you have dedicated yourself to God and Christ with a life of study, so from that I thought maybe you were not trying the sites out all that seriously. One thing that bothers me is the pressure that the church generally puts on people to get married, and not holding singleness up as a perfectly viable and biblical lifestyle.

Anyway, I'll leave it at that for now...

  2. You have got to be kidding me. Those scammers are hitting up dating websites now? That's hilarious.

Man, keep at it. There are some great girls out there in a similar situation.

Nice picture of the Joker, btw :)

    Yes, I know.

Your evaluation makes sense on this satirical site. I have written three serious related articles on thekingpin68, which are entitled, A philosophy of singleness 1, 2, and 3. I am looking for a potential date and more, but I have faced so much negative I use it for satirical material. Generally, the best looking women that have emailed me have been the scammers, and there have been plenty of them. I am not implying looks are the most important thing I look for in a woman.

Singleness would be easier for me if I had a gift of contentment.

Please check out my short latest on thekingpin68, Jake.

Thanks, David. I have been receiving scammer email from MeetChristians.com for years. I have posted many of the emails on satire and theology.

Man, keep at it. There are some great girls out there in a similar situation.

Please pray for me, I have been very discouraged with the ones I have met in person, and I am fed up with the secular attitudes of so many Christian women.

Nice picture of the Joker, btw :)

    Right on.;)

  5. The famous one I've heard about for years is eharmony.com, but I don't know really what their reputation is like.

Man, scammers abound. That letter is ridiculous.
It seems there are many foreign girls who are looking to escape their situation, or to take advantage of your money. One of my brothers married a girl from Honduras, and after she gained U.S. citizenship, and got my brother to go to Honduras with her to help her bring her little son over to the U.S. (he paid for it all, of course), she divorced him.

Girls want security. And of course they are also attracted to good-looking, young guys. Of course, girls want a guy who will pay attention to them and treat them right, but so many of them forget their standards when they see a really good-looking guy. And a girl who actually takes into consideration not only whether the guy is a Christian, but also his level of spiritual maturity, is very rare, I would say.

  6. Wise words, Jeff. Thanks.

I was just recently on trial eHarmony, but it is useless for free, and so I quit.

I am sorry about your brother. I know someone who married a Filipino woman and when it came to their divorce, he found out she had not divorced her previous husband. The second marriage was annulled.

Yes, looks and social status are primarily for many Christian women, and godly Christian men are overlooked. Now, I admit that many of my female readers are more theologically astute and may be different. I also know there are Christian men that marry good looking non-Christian women.

  7. This guy walks into a bar that's located on the 15th story of a tall building and sits down.

After a few drinks, another guy comes up to him and says, "Hey, see that window over there? I've been coming to this bar for years, and I found out something that is SO COOL! If you go over there and jump out that window, there is a draft a few stories down, that is SO STRONG, that it will actually carry you back up to this floor and deposit you right inside that window!"

The first guy says, "Listen, man, I'm drunk, but I'm not THAT drunk! I'm not an idiot, OK? So go bother somebody else!"

The second guy says, "No, man, I'm serious! There really is a draft of wind down there that is so strong, it will carry you right back up here, and you'll land right back inside this room!"

The first guy replies, "Look, I don't believe you, OK? What you're saying is ridiculous and impossible!"

The second guy says, "OK, I'll prove it to you. I'll bet you 20 bucks that I can go over there to that window, jump out the window, and that draft will carry me right back up to this floor, and deposit me right inside the window again."

The first guy thinks to himself, "Man, this guy is not only suicidal, he's a complete idiot. Should I take advantage of his stupidity and take his money?"

Finally, the first guy says, "OK, you're on. 20 bucks says you're wrong."

So the second guy says, "OK, I'll be right back." He walks over to the window, jumps out, and sure enough...a couple seconds later, he is lifted up and lands right back inside the room!

The first guy is absolutely stunned. He stutters, "I...I don't believe it! You were right," and hands $20 to the second guy.

The second guy says, "Yep. Hey, man, its a real high, too, when that wind carries you back up! You should try it! It's completely safe, man! Just go over to that window and jump! Man, its better than skydiving!"

The first guy says, "Oh, man, even though I saw you do it, I still don't believe it! No way, man, I'm not gonna try that!"

The second guy says, "OK, I'll do it again to prove to you that its completely safe!" So he does. He jumps out the window again, and is lifted back up, safe and sound, falling right back into the room.

Finally, the first guy says, "OK, man, I've seen you do it twice, so I guess it must be safe. I'm gonna try it!" So he walks over to the window and jumps. He falls past the 14th story, past the 13th story, and....keeps falling and lands on the concrete below with a huge crash, splattering body parts all over the street.

The second guy, after watching from the window, walks back over to the bar again and sits down.

The bartender looks at him and says, "You're such a jerk when you're drunk, Superman!"

  8. Our youth pastor met his wife on Yahoo. They are a trip together. He's a white guy from Iowa and she's from Haiti! When she goes off on him, we don't know what language she's speaking! My point is this, keep praying first and foremmost. My wife was "right under my nose" for 10 years before we got married. Of course, we met when we were 15 but i
kept "looking" and finally realized that I had what I was looking for.

  10. Not sure what to think that many of those women are from the Church of Christ!

I promise! Men in the Church of Christ are great husbands!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hi Wade. I am suspicious if they really are from the Church of Christ, and I know that there is more than one Church of Christ organization.

Wade, a question for you, or if you do not know perhaps Tara, or someone else knows. Is there a large Church of Christ presence in Eastern Europe? I am thinking that perhaps many of the persons on this site are from Eastern Europe and are pretending to be from the USA. Perhaps 'Church of Christ' is just a standard church name they are using like 'Church of God', or maybe the Church of Christ is well known in Eastern Europe.

    Any thoughts, my friend?

I looked on the net and found the following:

The Encyclopedia of the Stone-Campbell Movement: Christian Church notes Churches of Christ have made a major effort to distribute Bibles and Biblical literature and do missions work in Eastern Europe since 1961. p.313.

  12. Hey Russ,

I don't consider myself a COC historian but yeah, I think you may be on to something here.

Obviously you can't really be sure without asking them all directly. But it would make sense to me seeing how the COC has always had a huge emphasis on global missions - particularly in areas of the world where there is little or no freedom of religion, which would describe Eastern Europe from post-WWII to the 1990's. That focus has now lead many COC congregations into China.

I can't speak with any true knowledge on the COC's current presence in Eastern Europe. But my assumption would be that there are many small congregations, say less than 100 people. The congregation I worked with in Bulgaria was about that size.

If they listed themselves as a member of "The Church of Christ" then I would assume they attend an established COC congregation - my first question to the person would then be, "Do you believe only those attending Church of Christ will go to Heaven?" If they say no, then great. If yes, then keep on moving!

(By the way, neither Stone nor Campbell promoted that doctrine - only those who later followed them.)

But if these women listed themselves as a member of "a church of Christ" then I would think they are using the term in a more general sense.

    There's my 2 cents!

    Have a great week,

    W

Thanks, Wade. I think we are thinking similarly. If I can actually get into a serious conversation with one of these women, I will pass on my findings in regard to the Church of Christ.

    Russ:)

  14. Be yourself, and be true to yourself, hold on tight to your dreams, there's someone special waiting for you, timing is everything, patience is of utmost importance, faith can bring the impossible, strategy and being open can create a lot of opportunities for meeting that special person. All the best to you in your quest in meeting and marrying Wonder Woman.

  15. Wonder Woman...what about Supergirl?

I do not think I am nearly that demanding!

    Cheers:)

    ReplyDelete
  16. If it were me, I would prefer Supergirl. Then again, Linda Carter (TV Wonderwoman 1975-79) vs. Laura Vandervoort (current Kara/Supergirl on Smallville)...hmmm...Linda Carter was really gorgeous back then (IMO, Linda Carter in 1975 was more gorgeous than Laura Vandervoort is in 2008), but the comic-book Supergirl has generally looked more attractive to me than the comic-book Wonder Woman (I guess its the whole 'blonde' thing).

OK, that's enough of that. Even though I'm single, I don't want to turn this into a lust session.

Years ago, I knew a guy where I used to work who invited me to his church, and I went. He said at one time that he didn't think I was a Christian. I pushed him on the issue of who he thought would be saved, and it basically came down to the idea that only the people in his church would be saved, because his church was the only church that was like the church in Acts. I don't remember for sure, but I'm pretty certain that he attended the Church of Christ.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thanks, Jeff.

Yes, some churches named Church of Christ are like the one you stated, but not all.

There are some churches from various movements which have many essential Christian doctrines and then have false ones which they also hold as essential. Walter Martin called these Christian Cults as opposed to Pseudo-Christian cults.

I am hoping for an all-around attractive Christian wife. Otherwise, I will not capitulate and settle.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yeah, I've heard that some Churches of Christ are like that, and some aren't.

Don't get too impatient when it comes to looking for a wife. After all, remember these wise words of Scripture:

"It is better to live in the corner of an attic than with a crabby woman in a lovely home."
    Proverbs 21:9 (and Proverbs 25:24)

Ah, yes, and don't forget this one:

"A constant dripping on a rainy day and a cranky woman are much alike! You can no more stop her complaints than you can stop the wind or hold onto anything with oil-slick hands."
    Proverbs 27: 15-16

Solomon had many wives, so he was writing from first-hand experience
    when he said:

"Better to live in the desert than with a quarrelsome, complaining woman."
    Proverbs 21: 19

And he didn't stop there. He also wrote:

"It is better to eat soup with someone you love than steak with someone you hate."
    Proverbs 15: 17

So remember, being able to buy anything your heart could desire, and having hundreds of beautiful women to do with as you will, may not be a dream come true after all.
Solomon had all of that, and he found out that:

"A beautiful woman lacking discretion and modesty is like a fine gold ring in a pig's snout."
    Proverbs 11:22

So, in conclusion, Solomon found out, probably a bit too late, that:

"Charm can be deceptive and beauty doesn't last, but a woman who fears and reverences God shall be greatly praised."
    Proverbs 31:30

That's some of the best satire in the Bible, IMO! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have made some mistakes, yes.

Your comment Jeff, supports my idea that I should not capitulate in regard to finding a girlfriend/wife.

There needs to be compromise, but not capitulation.

    Cheers.:)
