Tracks

United States-Google Images

Back in my Christian academic education days at Canadian Baptist Seminary/Trinity Western University, with my Master of Theological Studies, course work Masters, I had a very fine Baptist theology professor that is now a Facebook friend. Dr. Earl Radmacher.

Within Theology 1 and Theology 2 which were long several hour sessions he brought us the theological concept of 'Tracks' in other words, from how I understood back in the late 1990's, it was the concept that a Christian may be well-meaning to do something better and greater for God and yet a track or tracks associated with sin or a track or tracks associated with something less than God's perfect will were holding a Christian back in life.

Seems to me he used the example of sexual sin and someone wanting to repent sincerely to God, but habitual sin prevented change.

The person could not change tracks. Not in their own strength.

It can be difficult to move onto a different track or tracks.

I find 'tracks' quite fascinating. Both in Theology and Philosophy.

One may see my Facebook updates and my blog posts and assume that I love the internet or love blogging and do not love other things, because these things are not seen in context.

One may assume this is exactly the life I desire, which is not the case.

But in context, I am on a track with a PhD in Theology/Philosophy and I use Facebook and my blogs to promote myself for potential employment, to work in ministry, and to maintain my skill level and I reason actually to increase it.

The internet is also a social track and some may therefore assume because I use this track so much for work it is also the social track I prefer.

Not the case.

As was noted at church again today, and I have heard this many times over the years, the Metropolitan Vancouver area only has five percent church attendance on a given Sunday.

Therefore, it may not be so simple, or easy for me to change social tracks as I would like.

But of course I try in Christ.

However, sure enough this last week I now have some online tutoring work from South Africa which I signed up for over a year ago, but now there is actual work.

But it does maintain a track of working online.

Others Christians may find they have a very vibrant social life with many friends but are a closet Christian and would like to have more Christian friends and fellowship.

Society and trends are against them.

This would be true in a Western context, or in an Islamic one or in many Eastern nations.

To move from the secular life track, for example, to the Christian life track is likely a difficult move indeed.

Although Christians are called in Christ not be bound together with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14).

2 Corinthians 6:14-18 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

14 Do not be [a]bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 Or what harmony has Christ with [b]Belial, or [c]what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? 16 Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; And I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 17 “Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate,” says the Lord. “And do not touch what is unclean; And I will welcome you. 18 “And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,” Says the Lord Almighty.

Permanent associations are meant according to David. J. A. Clines.

Therefore such a move would be Biblically mandated and there would be a price to pay for staying on a secular track.

Even some that are very religious, perhaps very fundamentalistic persons in the Church need to evaluate the track and tracks they are on.

Are they too legalistic?

Do they love enough?

Is their Christianity too much a product of a culture?

All life tracks which are from worldview from the perspective of limited human free will need to be evaluated by those in Christ and some tracks, some trains need to be departed for new ones in order to move closer to God's perfect will as opposed to closer to a permissible will.

CLINES, DAVID J.A. (1986) '2 Corinthians' in The International Bible Commentary, Grand Rapids, Zondervan.

  2. Hello Russ;

Thank-you for your honesty and openness. I appreciate your comments about social life and the struggle to balance that with Christian life.

For a disciple of Jesus, permanent associations would by biblical definition, be fellow disciples. However, if the association is one of serving or evangelizing someone else, that would be acceptable.

I believe the warning to the Church and Christians who are seeking to follow Jesus is a good one, as we are called to lead others to Jesus, and there are many contexts in this world where we can find ourselves compromised from this, and should -- change tracks, as you have said, being willing to be rejected or misunderstood for Christ.

"So, come out from among [unbelievers], and separate (sever) yourselves from them, says the Lord, and touch not [any] unclean thing; then I will receive you kindly and treat you with favor" 2 Corinthians 6:17

  16. I am not going to post this on Facebook as it is a little 'tmi' but blog readers want that, let's be honest.

Not that I spill my guts on here, get real.;)

Anyhow, Bobby Buff suggested the local Podiatrist, a big very friendly and funny black man, awhile back as Bluff had an 'owwy' at the Hammond Mill with his boot. I therefore had been taking my Mother there as she cannot reach her toes and has issues.

I have had toenail issues my entire life and my macho lifestyle with ball hockey and martial arts has not helped. In my teens and twenties I kicked a wet from rain 'rock' hard punching bag, and when I started playing ball hockey again in the 2000s, when I would arrive home toenails would be missing.

    Imagine that?

And by the way. I have never had gross nails. I would never let it get to that, nor would have my parents when I was a kid.

Problem is the the nail after awhile does not grow back straight, so I have had some of nails removed by my previous podiatrist which just leaves callus.

Yes, for you ladies, the callus can be filed down and I have read on websites that in the case of females nail polish can still be applied.

    Pretty callus nails.

However, tragically, a few years ago my podiatrist drove over the railing of the previous Pitt River Bridge to his death, and therefore the work of my feet was not completed.

I tried filing and working on my toes myself, yes I sterilize everything very well and use antibiotic cream and Dead Sea ointment for you medheads reading, I am not a moron.;)

The previous Dr. actually said I did about as good as job as could be expected.

But filing down old nail only thins it out so much.

    The pain?

Well, actually, the previous Dr. told me, and a previous podiatrist before him told me that some of the nerves die.

I am not sure if that is the case with me, but since I do not have much nail anymore I avoid infections and that is the key. When there is infection the pain is far more.

By the way, nail extraction surgeries with infection are far more painful than any eye surgery, and even more painful than throat or nasal sleep apnea related surgeries. Although those take a lot longer to heal from than toenail surgeries and so the pain lasts longer.

When I went in to see the podiatrist today he looked at my feet and he said 'Don't kick me'. And then he explained that he will not be able to do the surgeries on both toes, both feet, until next Tuesday.

Maybe he looked at my macho feet and figured, martial arts?;)

They do look pretty good, actually.

    Medical update end.;)

  17. ...which were long several hour sessions...

The longest class (as far as hours each day) I ever took was a Commercial Art class, which, if I remember correctly, was 4 hours long. We had an 'intermission' break halfway through.

I just now finished 5 hours of homework through online college courses. And I have more tomorrow. It's not real difficult, but just very time-consuming.

  18. Seems to me Theology 1 and Theology 2 were in the same day and so it was something like six to eight hours. Crazy. He was brought in from the United States as TWU has never in my opinion been known as a Theological University and does not seem to prioritize gaining theologians. I would be shocked to receive a job offer, out of the blue. for example. I do not like it, but that is just my view.

Some students complained about the set-up and about the Professor, and he was not too pleased either, seems to me, but I really learned much from him. Valuable. We also had lunch.

Blessings with the work, Jeff. I am praying.

  22. I have been thinking that for my next post on this blog I will write a story of my double toenail surgery both feet with a photo...;)

Mr. Matt and I yesterday arrived at the tentative idea of a theological live round table discussion that could be simulcast on this blog and perhaps his. He is an IT person with more experience with webcam and video, but is just learning blogging, but he would have to set up the presentation.

I was thinking this summer would be good on a Friday or Saturday night when none of us are socializing. Matt could likely stay at his Downtown Vancouver locate, I could stay here in West Maple Ridge, Uncle Chuck may very likely have to stay home, and Bobby will likely choose to, but perhaps they could decide to comment. We would attempt to promote in advance on Facebook.

Live comments and interaction would be Kool...therefore I comment.

Matt would like to have an theist or critic participate, which is a very good idea but we shall see who he could get. It might get too complicated in a summer.

Vancouver is presently on Pacific Daylight Time PDT.

It uses honest copywriting techniques and he offers a 60 day money back guarantee in which one would get to keep all the product and the money...

I think I am getting a better understanding of the pageview debacle.

Yesterday on the DrRNM blog for example StatCounter recorded 38% of Blogger pageviews for the day, now StatCounter is on PDT and Blogger GT, so the days are not identical, but that is what I have to compare.
SiteMeter is about the same as StatCounter. I think they catch 66% to 75% of same pageviews, rough estimate, and overall numbers close. But times are never same...crazy, sometimes the day is different.

On here, Satire And Theology, 25% of the Blogger numbers were recorded and at one point earlier in the sunny day it was 15% but when it cooled down the numbers went up. The satire blog (sadly, my bias) receives more traffic. It is easier to read and has more photos.

Many of us me included spend far more time outside in the Spring and Summer, and I would spend much more time outside in the summer if I lived in the USA or certain parts of Europe, like Spain, Italy or Greece or Australia for example.

I would need a larger virtual keypad so I could type articles with a handheld because I find the keys too small.

When persons are outside they are more likely to use a handheld device to web search than carry around a laptop and are more likely to browse the satire blog than thekingpin blog. Therefore, because Statscounter, Sitemeter and HisStats all largely fail to record many handheld pageviews it appears from their records that Satire's numbers are down, when Blogger correctly states otherwise.

    Such liars...;)

Revolver, which does not record stats but simply posts the location of a pageview, as in provider location, not necessarily actual, is my only program that actually seems to consistently catch handheld pageviews. I know this because I caught myself and others and the other programs were usually out to lunch...

The purpose of this blog is to provide a faithful and traditional explanation of the Catholic faith basing on Scripture, Apostolic Tradition and the sacred Magisterium. We can no longer remain silent nowadays on doctrinal and moral issues we have to be aggressive in preaching and defending the Catholic faith against those who wishes to destroy it.'

Good where it will be Biblical and historical Christian but questionable where it will be dogmatic Roman Catholic.

The other issues were that it was getting darker, the guys on my team were getting tired. I did get a piece on both shots, though. In fact, I don't think the first one went all the way in, but whatever.

Last time out I was not as good, was beaten on a couple of shots clean in the corners. Better this time. We have won every time though.

I have never played goal in ball hockey or soccer other than very little but I analyzed it.

    Well, is anyone reading this?

According to Blogger the answer would be yes.

According to my three programs...hmmm, maybe not, probably not.

Interesting using Hisstats when I count up their views recorded to my sites directly to main URL links, which would likely be the case if say from a handheld, there were still many missing after I counted my own. To the .ca and therefore I assume .com.

    Suspicious.

I arrived home and got in the tub so I will not stink at church Sunday and noticed my right bottom leg has so many mosquito bites it looks like I have major rash.

Sitting by the fire did little for it.

Okay, Google+ seems to be picking up.

I noticed that there seems to be more traffic on it and more motion capture movies etc...

I actually am starting to like it for the first time, ever.

Here is a philosophical theory I posted on Facebook.

    'Google+...Facebook with training wheels?

    Does seem to be growing...'

Further, perhaps and I admit this is somewhat satirical but I do have perhaps one instance of this with of course no details strict ethics, with someone 'Following' me although it only showed up via my other account as it showed this person was following my other (this) account. But is Google+ the safer more inconspicuous version of Facebook where certain persons, in certain situations will be friends/followers where in other cases they will not?

    Perhaps so.

Anyway, I figure what they heck, if people are going to pageview me, or may be pageviewing me they might me as have my support with a following, and I hope they can support me, even if with 'Facebook Jr' following.

This life is too short for these type of games when one really thinks about it. Not enough friends and too many non-friends, to put it nicely.
